Think about it, its owned by Sony so:

Exclusive characters for every game included on every disk.

Levels on every game disk along with props and gadgets from the game to use with the level editor.

Home integration.

Replacing the current static picture icons on your XMB and Profile with a Sockboy taking the place of avatars as we know it.

Sockboy toys with downloadable content in every package.

If Sony knows how to do this correctly this game is not going to be just a game, it will be a phenomenon that will sweep the world.

@Channing: I think it's because the game has the potential to be another Klonoa or DKC. We haven't a game like that in a long time (barring the new Sonic game), and it's much of the same reaction when Odin Sphere was announced.

I was initially skeptical because of the fact that there's no consequence for failure, but when they announced player "deaths", I became a bit more than intrigued.

Still, I'm concerned about the whole "world building" while playing a user stage - is the sponge going to be currency or will players be able to just add and drop everything on the fly?

@Tyber_Zann: Like I said before in another post, creation tools are much more complicated than gameplay engines and are priced accordingly - Maya, Photoshop, 3DS MAX, hell, even Microsoft Office and Visual Studio are priced much higher than other conventional pieces of software.

Obviously though, if you're not sold on it, wait for the reviews and such to come in and give it a rent after it has a few weeks to settle down. It'll probably be when the user-generated stuff starts to pick up too.

An error in the story - I think, from what I read - You only get one of those goodies, depending on where you order it from. For example, you might get Kratos from Gamestop, and the guidebook from Walmart, and the bag thing from Best Buy.

For the people that don't get this game, I recommend you watch every LittleBigPlanet video that is available on the internet, you'll see there's much more to it than jumping around, slapping people, and pooping the spongy stuff..what has been added to the gameplay since it was first shown at GDC07 is amazing and they better have some amazing TV spots and marketing blitz for this game because it deserves it...I'm a 23 year old male and still can't get over how cute Sackboy is. I will buy every pice of LittleBigPlanet merchandise made available. The guy that designed Sackboy deserves a gigantic bonus.

I decided a few weeks back that LBP will be that rare day one purchase - well rare for me. Reading through all the bits of information over the past months and seeing the level of love that this development team has for this project is just astounding. Whatever magic Media Molecule has concocted has me dancing along like a rat to the pied piper. The game just has all the right elements: adorable and instantly recognizable (not to mention endlessly customizable) characters. That perfect 2D look with which to tease my love for side-scrollers. A co-op mode that looks as addictive as crack (and which I firmly believe could rival Golden Eye and GoW for the most number of hours spent gaming in dorm rooms while neglecting homework). Music that is both memorable and catchy-as-hell. And on top of all of that they're letting me fulfill my dream of being a video game designer without having to learn…whatever black tongue it is computers speak. Sold.

You make levels, and you race through them, with or without other people, and that's about it. I can see this game getting old easily...especially after all the objects and level resources have been exhausted. Like the SSBB stage creator.

Unless they implement something like a Sackboy deathmatch game mode on user created levels with weapons, I see this "create your own game" game getting old fast. Within a week everyone will have done everything and all that will be left is racing through levels.

I just hope there is more left to be unveiled, as so far it seems rather shallow. Sure the customization is amazing, but creating your own side-scrolling levels is fun on paper, but not in the long-run in my opinion. There will be nothing to do after you've run through your levels 10x with your friends. :/

They better update this game regularly on the PSN like Warhawk, or else it will flop hard.

Isn't Halo "just" a first person shooter where you spend time shooting each other on "just" a few multiplayer arenas?

Isn't GTA4 "just" a guy running around triggering a bunch of scripted events like stealing a car or advancing the story or watching scripted pedestrians walk by in their scripted paths with their scripted mannerisms?

Isn't MGS4 "just" a story-heavy shooter-wannabe with no replay value?

Isn't Mario Galaxy "just" a platformer?

Lesson of the day: you can deconstruct any game into its mere parts and make it sound like a $10, $5 game worthy of bargain bin placement. It's the sum of the parts and the execution, people.

@stoutbear: i was thinking about it. I mean, think this way. Lets say that RE5 developers includes in the blu ray disc a "skins" for the sack boy, lets say, chris, leon, ada and jill ( for sackgirl) and a RE level, lets says a level with "zombie enemies" for LBP.

Or even more, developers could place level or skins from them in the "LBP store" or whatever is going to be called the place wher you gonna buy stuff. A Navy Seal skin from Socom, a Shibito skin from Siren, a racing pilot skin from GT 5 and so on, even comercial brands placing "ads levels".

Keep in mind people, MGS4, Halo, Mario Galaxy, and GTA IV all had, well, a story, a plot line, a goal, and except for Mario Galaxy, interesting online matches and battles.

To compare it correctly would be to take Halo 3's level designer and try to sell it off by itself, along with the video-save feature.

MGS4 - Don't own the game, am not much of an MGS fan, but hey, at least it has a plot and interesting online matches.

As for Mario Galaxy, I rented it and beat it 100% in 5 days. It definitely was just a $5 experience.

Sorry, but running through levels with seemingly no aim, no focus, and no real penalty or reward doesn't seem like a $60 experience to me.

I'll probably get it, I just think, just like every other game ever, it will not live up to its hype. It's a "create your own 2D platformer" which will lose its novelty.

Jeez, just because I don't think a level-designing tool is going to last my attention span beyond a week or two doesn't mean you have to say "WELL THEN MGS4, GALAXY, GTA IV, AND HALO SUCK TOO." as if you can't stand the idea of someone disagreeing with you.

@Ryuk: I get what your saying here, but your just looking at the game in a very shallow way, and I also see your a shooter fan so let me explain, if you wish to make a stage only, maybe recreate a stage from Smash bros, you have the liberty to do so, and after that you can add rules to make it a fighting game, you can make little weapons, that they can pick up and hit each other with, as long as its light enough for them to pick up, its building components are so deep, everything will never be made because you can basically do whatever comes to your mind. Smash bros' stage creator was crap, and you cant compare its depth.

Eh, I'm not that much of a shooter fan. Don't categorize me with a stereotypical brains-lacking shooter fanatic. I'm actually a fan of platformers, despite me also liking shooters, sort of.

I looked more into LBP and I'm more impressed, especially by the single-plaer and the level customization depth.

I just think it would be perfect if they added weapons, deathmatch, and the ability to create an underwater scene.

That's just me though.

You're no "stereotypical shooter fan", but you want to add deathmatch and weapons to a genre largely known and named for jumping between platforms.

You rush through 20, 30 hour experiences and claim that since you were able to finish them through the space of a rental, they're thus obviously worth however you paid for the demo.

I cant say that i'm entirely secure in my purchase decision. Little Big Planet looks great but it also looks shallow. I'm a bit concerned that there isnt very much there. Like we all fell in love with the idea, but where our brains went, the game doesnt. I'm very concerned about this. I hope it is incredible, and has lots of game play. I hope its not as shallow as i expect it is...

I really do, because it looks cute, and wonderful. But even that cant make it a good game.
