Lego Batman Cartoon In The Works
Posted by Mike Fahey at 1:40 AM on August 29, 2008
Batman has been the subject of plenty of cartoons over the years. There have been cartoons based on the comics, cartoons based on the movies, so why not cartoons based on a Batman video game? Speaking to GI.biz at the Games Convention last week, Traveller's Tales producer Rich Earl revealed that a TV show based on their latest Lego project is indeed in the works. The show is being produced by a separate studio in the states, using TT's assets to bring classic Batman characters to life.
"My understanding is that they will use the engine, the Maya files where the characters come to life, but they'll be creating animated... I think it's a 20-minute cartoon. I'm personally quite intrigued to see how it comes out. Lego, every time they've had a new brand out, they've done some CGI stuff as well, but I think this will be quite different".
This would be a perfect opportunity to bring Adam West back into the Batman fold, as I can't see Batman: The Animated Series lead Kevin Conroy's voice coming out of Lego Batman's little round head.

Nooo. I want Kevin Conroy! He's Batman! I can't take Mayor West seriously. Not after all those times watching him in Family Guy. He just sounds...not good as Batman. Kevin Conroy, please!

@Modus_Operandi: Less talking heads and more action. I like that.

Keep the cartoon silent like the other Lego game cutscenes. That'll make it more interesting.

Adam West would only fit Batmans voice if the cartoon resembled the 60's television show. Anything more modern like the new lego batman game I just dont think will fit.
well maybe...

How could you not love this idea? I, for one, welcome Mayor West as the voice of Lego Batman, and hope they somehow incorporate a giant golden statue of the Sugar Smacks frog into an episode.

Can't wait to see mark Hamill's voice coming out of a Lego Joker...again. Look up Dave School Batman and you'll see what I mean. Adam West did a good job in that one too!

@Zatoichi666: I had the almost the exact same experience, except we started talking about the biblical and soceital origins of our shared name, went into a deep discussion about faith in America, and then discussed the war.
Then I made it weird and started gushing over how he was Batman.

Just watched the daveschool short. Yeah, I thought West would work, but it was just too monotone the whole way through. Works for Mayor West on Family Guy, but Batman's not the same as he was in the 60s/70s anymore.
I vote for Kevin Conroy. I still see him as Batman although I might be open for someone else if they're good enough (just not the same guy that's been doing the more recent animated Batman movies. Don't like him.)
Keep Mark Hamill as the Joker. He's the only one that's been able to do the animated voice right. I also loved Dick Van Dyke as Gordon and whoever did the voice of Alfred.
But yeah, this cartoon is going to sell soooooooooooooooooo many Batman Lego sets. The daveschool thing has me heading to Amazon.com now to see what they have for Lego Batman!

I met Adam West last year at the Toronto comic expo. He was actually pretty cool. Shook my hand asked me how I was what i did. unlike alot of these "ACTORS / ARTISTS" that are like signed next signed next...
This was the best part
Adam West" So what can I do for you?"
ME " I'd like an autograph please"
Adam West "Sure, who should I make it out to?"
Me "Adam......." (Also my name)
Adam West " ummmm how do you spell that?"
Me "you think we should ask someone?"
nice little chuckle shook my hand again I thanked him and split.
My girlfriend actually said i was smiling ......
and I don't smile !

So let's get this right. It's a cartoon based on a game based on toy playset based on the 1989 Tim burton movie based on a comic book.
I think this officlly beats the Street Fighter movie game in irony.

I... I hate this idea... Unless some people from TAS are actually involved. Then I may like it.
Bah, I suppose I should give it a chance regardless. But... I probably won't.
Batman: The Animated Series remains in my top three my favorite animated show and I hate that they're still trying to top it! Don't bother! Just make new episodes!

Have they secretly done away with The Brave and Bold cartoon? I dont believe I've seen two Batman cartoons running at the same time. Even Batman Beyond came on a season after the last of The Amimated series.

@cap-n-crunch: Hmm I'm going to see if they have new news for that one. He gets to be paired with a new hero with every episode right?
Cool premise. I just hope they don't make Batman look like he NEEDS superpowers because of it.
@2NinjasTapedTogether: Batman TAS,Beyond and the JLA:U are some of my fave 'toons. Up to now, they still more than hold their own against newer 'toons.
I also watched the entire run of THE Batman cartoon. It wasn't bad at all. It certainly can't match TAS. But it was no slouch either.
Oh and this Lego thing looks to be a one-shot affair. Unless it does well then they might make it into a TV reg.
I'm also curious to see why WB decided to stop making TAS. From the looks of it it certainly fared well.

@Zatoichi666: That's a nice story. =D
Reminds me of what one of my friends told us when she met Brad Pitt at an airport.
She said: "OMG you're Brad Pitt aren't you?!?"
BP:"Last time I checked yeah..."
Hehehe I think she got a photo or something.
@BigPanda:
@Ryu Kazama:
Yeah I also "see" Batman whenever Kevin Conroy speaks. Who knows maybe he can pull this Lego thing off?
He (KC) certainly pulled his own weight in Gotham Knights...
Mark Hamil as the Joker is also a no-brainer.
I can't believe the amount of Bat-goodness that keeps on coming. First theere was Gotham Knights then the movie did very,very well then there's the Lego Batman game. Then there's the Batman:Arkham Asylum game which looks to be the definitive Batman game and now this! Oh except for the supposedly canceled Batman game. But still! Woohoo!

Well thank God... it must be, what, 15 minutes since a Batman movie or cartoon has come out? I had almost forgotten all about him!
But is there even a market for it? I mean, does anyone even like Batman, or Legos, or videogames?
Oh, here's the problem: I had my SARCASM LOCK key on.

So... it's a cartoon, based on a video game, based on a toy line, based on a comic book character.
... and I STILL don't know why she swallowed the fly!
(...perhaps she'll die?)

Adam West cast in a Batman video that likely won't have any spoken lines? Sure, why not?
@cap-n-crunch:
Who said it has anything to do with the Burton Batman? Sure, the Batmobile set looks vaguely Burtonesque (that's just because it's the most kick-ass traditional Batmobile) and comes with a Burton-suited Batman, but we don't know which Batsuit will be featured in this. They've also got the Nolan Batsuit (and the Tumbler, and a craptastic excuse for the Batpod), a Batsuit that looks like it was modelled after the Justice League version, and a Batsuit that looks more Golden Age-ish. And if you swap the torsos on the last two, you can pull off a Frank Miller TDKR Batman and a Jim Lee Hust Batman as well.
@cap-n-crunch:
I don't know where the idea that it would be a serialized TV show came from, but the LEGO website featured a few animated shorts based on the Star Wars line. There's The Han Solo Affair, an award-winning stop-motion short that has various SW characters trying to make off with Han Solo's carbonited self. They also tried CGI with Revenge of the Brick, which was a one-shot short that premiered on The Cartoon Network and was included on the Clone Wars 2 DVD. While this LEGO Batman thing might see a TV release, I wouldn't expect it to be anything more than a single episode.

Why does anyone think that there will be actual voice acting? It's probably going to be a bunch of grunts and random cries with no real dialogue, as per the norm for Lego animation other than the Bionicle series.
Here, I'll punch up a scene.
Joker: Hah hah hah! [Joker throws a lit stick of dynamite in the path of one approaching Batmobile]
Batman: AGGGHH!!! [Batman escapes, but the Batmobile is shattered into Lego bricks for comic effect]
Joker: Nyaaagh! [Angry at his failure]

@AndroidKing: The original Batman: The Animated Series (from the 90s) was sorta based on Tim Burton's batman film. It used the same theme song and went for the same feel. Also, Kevin Conroy will always be the greatest batman ever.
