Once again, I find myself nostalgic for the days when video games were primarily the domain of nerds and dorks, and not of stupid dirtbags who get in fistfights over them. I don't recall anyone beating each other up, breaking and entering, or shooting other people for the 2600 or NES.

Actually, now I'm curious. Does anyone know if any of that stuff was going on back in the early 1980's with relation to gaming? I mean, I was in kindergarten when we acquired a 2600, so I might be seeing this whole thing through the rose-tinted glasses of childhood.

And it's all in Greensburg, It's about an hour away from Pittsburgh. It's also in a different county. It's not even considered a suburb. So basically, replace all mentions of Pittsburgh, with Greensburg. I don't know where the article summary gets Pittsburgh from.

They don't give details about if it was being borrowed, bought by the group, etc. yet people are writing this off as 'fanboys'. For all we know, he could have wanted it back, if it was indeed his and they were borrowing it.

Yeah (as another Pittsburgh resident) it's a shockingly low-crime city. There's some drug-related violence in one low-income area, of course some scattered crime, but almost every act of real stupidity is way out in the suburbs.

That's a bad move on his part there. You don't go up to 30 people and start instigating...even if they are at fault. You wait to talk to whomever you need to one on one. Because when there's a group of people, you are talking about their pride...they're not going to let some punk come and talk down on them...you're going to get a beating. I mean, when I was younger hanging with a group of people, you tend to be a lot braver and a not likely to tolerate things like that. You tend to start trouble because you know you got people backing you up. That's what happened here. I don't know the whole story, but he probably deserve some kind of beating for being stupid.

@Dalren: Well in this case they are looking for these four guys to charge them with aggravated assault. If there is some kind of mix up to where there is a question of who really owns the PS3, then I would err on the side of caution.

Now, if someone came up on the street and physically hits you then that is another story. There is a difference between tackling a would be thief to retrieve your property than to start punching him with brass knuckles and having a bunch of men kick him while he lays bleeding. I am not standing up for thieves, I just think it's better not to take the risk of seriously hurting someone and getting yourself sent to jail.

That's a really badly written article...I read it and I can't understand what the hell they are trying to say. Say what the facts are. Then they gave out the address of the alledged criminals. There's got to be some privacy issue there. Did the kid have his ps3 stolen by them...you can't even tell from the story. You can't even tell if the kid is trying to take a ps3 from the other kids and got his assed wiped. That's just a bad story.

@SnakesSolids: True that...I mean, just to see it in action when we actually had to get security because 20 people were swearing up and down that they saw an ad price they couldn't possibly have seen (we had both the ad copy and the TV ad they claimed to have seen in the office), and it all started because one obnoxious customer claimed he saw it, started yelling, and in the space of 5 minutes a crowd hearing the ruckus gathered and started claiming the same thing...over a stupid doll.

@Tietsu: Russ Trolls. That brand name of trolls were popular with kids (and adults) around 1994-95. We had the Russ trolls for 14.99 (which were actually marked up from 12.99) and a knock-off brand for 4.99 that we advertised in both our print ad and our TV ad.

One knucklehead who used to come in and run his mouth regularly saw the Russ trolls and claimed he saw them in our print ad for 4.99. No, that was these trolls (the knock-offs). No it was the Russ trolls he said, louder. So he started getting louder and louder with my boss, and then his wife joined in. About 5 minutes later some 20 people were surrounding my boss, all maintaining that they saw this ad and it was the Russ trolls they saw for 4.99.

At one point they ran down the aisle where we had the Russ trolls and started peeling the 14.99 tag off to reveal the 12.99 price and started claiming we were trying to rip them off. As they were getting closer to my boss en masse someone called our head of security and he went up and confronted the crowd and took names of people who wanted to "report us for false advertising". He offered to show them not only a copy of the print ad but also the televised ad, but they kept maintaining "I don't need to see that, I know what I saw", even though until they heard this idiot yelling, they hadn't even wanted the damn doll.
They just knew it was somewhat of a popular toy and they figured if he was going to get it at 4.99 (he didn't) by screaming, then they would too.

Thankfully, when I took over that department as manager (about a year before we shut down, natch), the worst I had to put up with was children asking for GTA, we telling them no, you must have an adult buy it, and the indignant mother telling us "My child's mature enough to play that game".

It's things like that that makes me glad I am no longer in retail...I got too many gray hairs already ^_^.
