@Sparx: But this Madden was worth buying, I'd say. EA headed by Peter Moore is really trying to change. On top of the new animations, changed rosters and updated stats of every year, Madden 09 got a bit of a graphical re-haul and some new features were added. Due to the nature of football, Madden has the kind of gameplay where the game doesn't get boring to us football fans. Call me an idiot, but it's a guilty pleasure I'm willing to indulge in. I could imagine Halo is the same.(Not to mention, I have the disposable income, so I might as well. Maybe if Madden was $40 every year as opposed to $60, people would complain less.)

Frank O'Connor, Bungie's Content Director, left Bungie to work with Microsoft on "Halo related projects"

There's an internal development team within Microsoft that focuses on Halo. Frankie is probably the lead of this team.

Corrinne Yu and her husband have left Gearbox and have joined the internal Microsoft dev team.

Nice, if peter jackson is really involved it should have great direction and a good story.

And gearbox isn't really developing the game, MS just hired a few people from the team to help with the project.

I can see unreal tech being used...It looks good and allows the developers to work more on the game and less on graphics coding...

@Xemnas: Because only Bungie knows how to make FPS? Get off their bandwagon, Bungie is a good developer, but way to discredit any other studios that will put much time and effort into the next Halo game. All I'm saying is don't knock it until you try it.
(Note: I think any Halo game made after CE is bland, so I too do not have high hopes for the next FPS whether it's Halo 4 or a spin-off.)

Halo was never that great of a game to begin with. The story was mediocre and if not for the online it'd be nothing more than a footnote in history. Bungie never really did much with it either. Sure they added a feature here and there and touched up the graphics but it was essentially the same game whether you bought Halo 1 or Halo 3. Its like the Madden treatment, same game each time but people are still compelled by it

It's funny how few people know anything about Bungie and even Halo. Most people seem to forget or have never known that Halo was originally a Mac title and Microsoft had jack-all to do about it. That being said I think that they should both be considered responsible, at least in part, for any successes or failures of the Halo franchise.

I also think that a lot of people seem to hate on Halo just because it's the popular thing to do. I think Halo 1 was the best of the series and had a pretty good plot for an FPS. I thought Halo 3 was pretty fun, too, but it was less "The Godfather" and more "Superbad" in those terms. Sure it was fun, but was revolutionary, amazing, etc.? Not really, but when we consider we used to have mystery solving Mexican skeletons in point and click adventures it hard to see any game with alien and shootan as original.

It will be interesting to see what this women brings to the table in terms of this new game.

If she's JUST starting on an engine, then it's going to be a long, long while until we see the product of it. Even games made from modifing existing engines take some time, so if they're building from the ground up it'll take a while. Not that I'm really crying over it, never did get on the Halo boat.

But I think the depth the first halo brought into the series, I mean storywise (and no I know it wasnt super deep, ala Mass Effect, but it was decent enough, certainly out of all the 3) was lost in Halo 2 and 3. More 3.

That said, I would probably still buy it, but I'll buy it wishing it was something that was new and innovative. Unless, of course, they manage to pull that off for Halo 4.. which I doubt.

Halo is the same story with the same cast of characters for the most part. The next installments might not have MC but it will still be in the Halo Universe.

Just because someone from one company gets hired at another company doesn't mean that both those companies are instantly going to strike a deal to make a game.

Did Peter Moore getting hired at EA Sports make them exclusively do sports titles for the 360? No. It's the same thing here.

I am a Bungie fan first. Then a Halo fan 2nd. It kind of feels like they are milking the shit out of Halo now. They should have just left it at the Trilogy for now. Then a couple years down the line drop a new Halo game. So it wouldn't feel like it was being crammed down our throats.

That aside, if you compare the Halo franchise to the slightly older Quake franchise, you will realize the exact thing happened by the third iteration; the focus was largely on multiplayer. Oh and also Quake 4 was probably the poorest FPS I've played in a while, so you know what to expect from H4

I remember playing Opposing Force, Gearbox's expansion to Half Life, and that was a great title. The designers managed to live up to a great game while adding original twists on the gameplay. Their Brothers in Arms series was a little less FPS-styled, but still quite exciting.

Although I only played the first Halo, I have full trust in Gearbox when it comes to the single-player component of their Halo game.

I'm too lazy to read all this stuff. What I'd like to see is a "Brothers In Arms : Helljumper Elite" type of game. The awesome RT strategy plus the Halo canon would make for some interesting scenarios, especially given the combat styles of the Covenant.
