It will be on the PC. Doubt I'll pick it up though. I got gears 1 on the PC for two reasons.

1. By the time i had wanted to play gears of war the PC version was out and way cheaper than the 360 version.

2. I assumed the PC version would be better in some way.

I was wrong about it being better. The controls just did not work well on a keyboard. This was confirmed when I tried the game out with a gamepad on my friends 360. Oh, and it was as buggy as a two dollar whore.

Now that I enjoy Gears of War I'm just gonna get the 360 version. I wanna play it now rather than later. Especially if Gears 2 PC has the same issues as gears 1 PC.

Every single game they've released has basically been the same as the last, even more so with Blizzard. Diablo 12 will be the same as 2 but with flashier graphics, so I guess that keeps it new and interesting enough.

This will never happen. Take a nice loooonnnng look at all the latest and greatest, and yet to be released multi-plat console games and virtually all are coming to PC, with higher res textures, higher resolution, much better framerate, 16X antialiasing, 16X anisotropic filtering. And I have my PC hooked up to my 52" most of the time. Oh, and I pay $10 less for a game that plays better. Then there are still PC exclusives (Crysis/Crysis Warhead)

As a PC Gamer, I don't really care if this unexciting game won't come out for the PC. Don't get me wrong, I did play GoW 1 on both systems. I did have fun shooting people in the faces and chopping people up. But when I just felt it was just another generic shooter. And after watching that E3 trailer for GoW 2 I thought "Wow, more brown. Brilliant brown.". I guess that is the main thing that plagues many other games. We need colour.

And some will say GoW 2 won't be out for PC because of the piracy. Yes, piracy is hurting the PC industry but the developers are simply following the money and that money explosion is from consoles because of their popularity and simplicity. However, I just feel that the developers are also scared that they won't produce expected sales. But look at Stardock. They didn't mind much that SoaSE was on the 'nets because they don't want to bog PC users with DRM and other broken protection. But sales were great IIRC and reviews for the game were great. I played the beta's myself and it is a fun game. I like Stardock maybe because they just have more balls to release stuff for the PC.

Maybe that it what the developers need is to get some balls and make good games not just for consoles but for PCs as well. Take the DRMs off and maybe use the internet to their advantage. Steam has use the net and is has become very successful.

But I will get flaked from the console hemisphere saying "But, but consoles are cheaper and the game just works!". That may be true, but how much did you spend on that HD system to play your console to the fullest? Probably the same cost as a good PC set at about $1500. And about the game working, you got me there. I have to go through the minimum specs, install it, etc and you guys just pop in the CD. Well, that is one of many things that I accept as a PC gamer.

And about the PC upgrades, yes, that is another ripple that many others like myself have to go through. It is a fact. And this aspect pushes many other gamers away from PC and migrate to consoles because there is no need for hardware upgrades. However, a PC for example might cost 1500 and would last for a few years. If that person of this PC needs an upgrade, it would simply be an OC or simply a faster video card or more RAM. With consoles however, you would need an entire new system when the system is released in order to play the latest games for that system. And that new console (looking at the new PS3s), the backward compatibility may be gone. Which may leave you with two consoles, one of which you will rarely use, having to go through the hassle of switching between the consoles, or trying to do some type of hack on that new console in order to play the older games.

With PC's, backward compatibility is never lost with games. I can play a game as old as the first need for speed on my system.

I guess what I am trying to say is there are pros and cons for being part of either side. But it seems that there are just more cons on the PC side and more pros for consoles for the majority of people. But the thing that pisses me off about these types of debates is that people categorize certain games for the two sides. I recall that someone said that PCs are just only for RTS, MMORPGS, and FPS. This person forgot that there are adventure games (Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed) racing games (Need for Speed Undercover) and sport games (NHL 08, yeah that was the one example I could think of. Not much of sport gamer myself). Or some random, non-sensible, derogatory, immature retort without some type of evidence that would support that retort. Example: "PC's suck." Why, I would ask. "PC's suck because of piracy!" Better, but still pissed me off.

Any way, on topic, many people agree that PC GoW is better. A patch fixed the few problems it has. My not-so-speedy PC ran it fine at lower settings. Epic is also a PC developer, primarilly. Hopefully, it will be ported eventually, even if by another developer. I sort of like the gameplay. I was never good at run and gun, so the cover heavy combat agrees with me. It's how I try to play other shooters, anyway.

I have had far fewer problems with GoW PC than many, but I never finished the game, and I just finished a new PC build and re-installed all my games (1.5TB worth of storage on this build), and I have these stuttering issues that I heard about. I am not as fanatical as you are because the game ran like butter on my previous build, but you have some valid points.

1: Microsoft was getting tired of people saying that every worthwhile 360 title is available on the PC

Sure, technically it's possible to run old DOS games in newer Windows environments (assuming that you're running Windows), but in many cases it requires fiddling around with DOS emulators like DOSBox, and sound card emulators (I had to mess around with a Sound Blaster emulator to get some old game to run with sound, can't remember if it was Blood or Realms of the Haunting). And the average Joe simply can't be bothered with all that hassle for BC when consoles just let you pop in the game disc and play the game via built-in BC.

@Orionsaint: A mistake on my part. However, you still have an aiming reticule in the center of the screen that, when adjusted, will turn your character accordingly. The aiming and maneuvering mechanisms are the same as an FPS (minus the duck and cover system), so you get much of the same benefits from a mouse/keyboard interface (although, the kickback on these weapons could be used to argue against that).

Honestly, I do not really care. I'm really tired of this sentiment recently of PC gamers lapping up the table scraps of console games, and acting like it is the superior, definitive version. That shit never used to fly, and I don't understand why it's suddenly okay now. I'm a PC gamer and I just find it embarrassing. People who do this are just trying turn the PC into another platform for their petty and immature console war debate, because they sure aren't pushing superior games.

It's not even sour grapes or anything, because I have an xbox 360, and I'll probably buy Gears of War 2 for that, just like I did its predecessor. Because that is the platform it was designed for.

And there is a fundamental difference between the approach to game design in console games versus PC Games (I've read/heart that some people say the main difference is that PC games are designed to be "boring" but those people are morons). Not that there can't be good console to PC ports and visa versa, but it is still highly unusual, and 9 out of 10 times I will still prefer a game that was designed to be a PC game, exclusively, from the ground up, rather one that has been repurposed or branched from a console game.

There was a time where nearly all games worth mentioning were "exclusives". Ports were semi-successful attempts of raising customer exposure by a few percent, but they weren't really taken seriously. Lara Croft was for the PS. Mario?- Pure Nintendo! The Lucas Arts adventures, SimCity, C&C, most FPS games and Civilization: PC territory.

Some were made for other platforms as well, maybe even successfully. But there was never a doubt that Final Fantasy is a console game, for example. And that's OKAY!

I think that even today, games are made for one platform (although 360, PS3 are near-identical). All others, even if they come out the same year, are ports. Valve makes PC games - and ports them to the 360 (and sometimes PS3). Gears, Halo are 360 games... that were ported for PC.

A controller is a totally different input device than a mouse. A TV screen requires a different FOV than a PC-screen. Menus need different font-sizes, layouts.

If games are created for all platforms at once, you get a horrendous mishmash without focus. I'd rather have one excellent 360 game and one excellent PC game than 2 mediocre ports.

The PC has its exclusives: Crysis, Stalker, a proper Civilization and all the MMOGs... not to mention the modding scenes and free updates. No reason for jealousy.

there will be a pc version, maybe a year or so from the release of gears of war 2. remember, the pc version is the superior version, so having both out at the same time will only hamper the 360 version, which i'm more then sure that ms wouldn't want that and is something ms probably want to say that their console is exclusive compared to pc [a 360 exclusive game].

their also probably want to squeeze as much money from the 360 users with add-ons and mods to the game. then after a year or so, those things will get ported to the pc just like the first gear and with extra features and stages.

it seems epic hasn't forgotten their pc community and thank god for that.

So um, you reap what you sow. The PC version got bad reviews and everyone complained about the bugs, so now they're like 'forget it, buncha whiners.'

What I don't get is people saying that they aren't doing a PC port because of piracy. Really? The 360 is so easily modded to play burns it's kind of ridiculous.

I don't know, opening up your several hundred dollar machine, completely voiding the warranty (for a system that is known to break no less) and messing around with the DVD drive seems like a hell of a lot more effort than just going to one of the million torrent sites and clicking on the games you want.

Piracy doesn't make the PC a worse platform for gamers, but it does make it a more risky one for devs.

The simple fact is an off the shelf console is a relatively closed system, in comparison to a PC.

All the time I played GOW on xbox, I was thinking....damn I need a mouse and keyboard...ARRRG I wouldn't of died like an idiot with a mouse and keyboard.

Well, now I got it on pc, and I like it a lot. It's just hard enough on top difficulty. I heard a lot of guys have problems running the game, no problems here. Oh well, if it doesn't come on pc, I'll just never play...not that it breaks my heart. A game with anything having to do with aiming, I hate controllers. If they made WASD analog on keyboards, gamepads would be obsolete in my point of view for many types of games.

It is thanks to PC gaming that analog control has not really caught on except on consoles (you know, actual pressure sensitivity and gradual movement that comes from slight increments in movement instead of pushing a key like a trained monkey), most games still use archaic and outdated health management systems ("Hey let's make it so you have to pick up arbitrary health packs in addition to ammo, because that adds complexity and depth!"), ridiculous control schemes that are complex simply for the sake of being complex (Why adopt analog control to move slowly when you can press Ctrl to achieve the same? Why scroll through abilities in a intuitive way when we can map each one to five different buttons whereever we choose!) and a ridiculous dependancy on third parties that is probably only rivalled by the automobile industry.

PC gaming is an old, withered, bitter, bedridden man who wants to demean everything possible because it's all he's ever known and the sooner someone decides to smother it with a pillow and leave the inheritance to people who actually know how to use it productively is when gaming will truly shine.

I also want to point out that many of the console games that are out there are made on the humble PC. So for those console extremists out (not saying all of you are) who want PC gaming to die, you might just want to give a small positive thought about the PC.

I may be wrong on this point, so feel free to correct me. There are console devkits for PS3/360/Wii game development that works in tandem with the PCs which do most of the hard work. Examples include rendering, coding, etc.

I also want to point out that consoles and Macs ARE fundamentally personal computers, in case some of you have forgotten what PC actually meant. All platforms have input, output, storage, and processing capabilities that make them PCs at the heart of it all. So, if you hate PC gaming, you might as well stop playing your console and vice vera. Ok, maybe I just stretched that one a bit. A consoles keyboard is a PC's controller. (hmm, It made sense to me xD)

And about the piracy thing, the old gen consoles also suffered from piracy as well. PS2s from my POV were plagued with mods that enabled users to play burnt games that they could have gotten from the internet or from their contacts. And some handhelds today can be hacked in some form to get at pirated content. (Hmm, can't think of any examples right now but that thing called R4 or whatever comes to my mind. Again correct me if I am wrong.)

As for firmware updates for consoles, you can't always think that they will work perfectly. If memory serves me right, some PS3 owners had to suffer some bricked PS3's after a certain firmware updates. But I do applaud Sony for apologizing for the incident. Same thing goes with PCs. Going from SP1 to SP2 pissed off a few users because some of their programs no longer worked.

For those who just love to bash the either side, just think a little longer to post a respectable comment. Also think that consoles and PC, to me anyway, are pretty much eh same, just different skins.

I mean, I enjoy playing PC games (even though I am a console gamer by heart), and I've been using DOSBOx to play old FPS games (Duke 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior etc.), but the average Joe who doesn't know what DOSBOx is, let alone how to configure it, simply can't be bothered with all the hassle to get old games to run under post-WinME versions of Windows (ME was the last home version of Windows to include DOS as an underlying layer, Win2000 and newer have all been using the NT system), because it's really a huge pain in the ass to get it to work.

R4 is a sort of cartridge adapter thingie for the DS where you can put memory cards with DS games on, I think. For the PSP there's the custom firmware, the Pandora battery and such. And nowadays running copied games on PS2 is about on par with PC piracy, a regular 8 MB memory card with FreeMCBoot and a specific ELF file (no names mentioned) will let you boot burned games without any hardware modification.

Third party software, is good. That's another reason why, contrary to what you say, everything console gamers can do, pc (usually) can do better.

I agree with you on analog, WASD analog keyboard should of been out by now. But analog gamepads exist on pc's since ps1/64 days...if you like aiming slowly and getting owned before you turn around fast enough. Analog is interesting, but not for aiming.
