Own The City That Never Sleeps in This is Vegas!
Posted by Adam Barenblat at 10:00 AM on August 22, 2008
In this new This is Vegas trailer we get to see some of the awesome visuals they are working on for the game. I know GTA has covered this to some respect but it will be interesting to see an entire game built around this theme. Regardless, This is Vegas will do just that allowing you to make VIP connections at the hottest clubs or race cars on the underground circuit. The game will be released sometime in 2009 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

I don't know about Midway..games like this and mortal kombat are going to put them out of business.

I'd really love to see a game with a fully licensed Vegas strip. I know I'm SUPPOSED to know what these casinos are, but I have fond memories of the real Vegas casinos, and it's just hard to feel anything for the "Mayan."

Pretty sure this is going to be the most realistic "Life as a Douche Bag" simulator ever.

...Uh.. doesn't "The City That Never Sleeps" refer to New York?

I thought this was Vegas! This is some made-for-a-game Vegas wannabe. When someone does a Vegas game that actually uses the Vegas properties, inside and out, I'm in. Until then, I'm out.

This game is gonna bomb SOOO hard. Wet t-shirt contests and dancing mini-games... UGH! Not to mention, the character designs are incredibly generic and bland.

THIS.. IS.. VEG-... bah, I just don't have the heart.
I'm still not entirely sure what to expect from this game. Can't wait to get some gameplay vids.

I would love to see some gameplay videos of this game before I get really hyped, but it seems it takes what I love most from GTA and discards what I don't really care for. So, consider me pretty hyped.

I know this game is really shallow.. but I'm kinda looking forward to it, know what I mean?

whatever happen to "current-gen" graphics, this looks like it was made 8 years ago as a 1st gen ps2 game.
GG Midway for always being late on just about everything.

@karateka: Where have you been lately? MKvDC is getting really good press as of late and should do pretty well considering all the positive reactions the public has been giving.

It's definitely Vegas, but is it a game of any kind? What am I looking at?

@Shachihoko: That doesn't change the fact "The city that never sleeps" is a long used epithet for New York, not Las Vegas.
Your argument is akin to calling Las Vegas "the City of Lights" and when someone says, "isn't that Paris?", replying that Vegas has a lot of neon signs that you don't think Paris has.

@Chesu: @natureboy46: Reason why it called the City never sleeps, because I doubt NYC have any fancy 24/7 Casinos, resturants, lights stays on forever, late night street racing, etc...

Gamer intuition (I'm pretty sure everyone here has it) says this is a game that's going to blow really badly. It's one of those games that tries really really hard but is just going to fall flat on it's face, even the combat looks stupid with giant swirly pink and glitter contrails following every punch, leaving out the rather obvious choice of insult here, the lead also looks like a douchebag and from what I can tell will spend the game acting like one. Don't forget the story is about Douchenozzle there "taking it back to old vegas" by "dancing" and "street racing" ugh...

@sarcasmOD: The ONLY good press it's getting is from kotaku lately and if you look at when this "press" started you would see that 75% of the people hated it. Now my question is why is kotaku been peddling this ware I don't know. As for vegas...doesn't seem to bring anything to the table.

This Is Stupid.
Seriously, a game about Las Vegas w/o any kind of story (let's be honest, there isn't going to be a worthwhile story).... just random activities including gambling and night clubbing (come on, virtual night clubbing? really?) on a virtual Vegas Strip? Wake me when its over.

I'm nocturnal and I can assure you that Las Vegas shuts down at night. Go to a casino after 2am and you'll see. The city that never sleeps is NYC.

WOAH WOAH WOAH. Partway through that trailer, I saw a white convertible go by, and then without changing scenes, THE EXACT SAME CAR went by again.

@BIGmog: I think it depends.
The Elysium is a club that stays open for afterhours, and has a decent amount of people that go into it, at least whenever I'm in town.
I'd also mention that the mini-craps tables seem to stay full at the Casino Royale during afterhours, and Denny's was always a place that I'd goto for laughs (Ever see a hooker only wearing Fredricks of Hollywood lingerie ask a dwarf change for a twenty?)
That, and plenty of drunken bachelorettes are found stumbling in around 4:20am...

@BIGmog:
After 2am? Is that a joke?
Dude, I live in Vegas...the 'regular' clubs here stay open until 4 - 6am...at which point everyone goes to the afterhours which can go from around 6am - 12pm. This goes on 7 days a week! Walk in to any Casino in the city there are people gambling 24hrs a day, and there are plenty of 24hr restaurants.

@Dorgon: Yes, because acquiring the licenses to put all those properties in the game would be sooooo cost effective.
