PAL PlayStation Store Update: Bionic Commando Unarmed
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 6:30 PM on August 15, 2008
Just in case you missed the news earlier, Europe, there's no Bionic Commando Rearmed for you today. Well, there isn't on PS3. There is on 360 and PC, but you, you're left with the PS1 version of Driver. Which as far as consolation prizes isn't too bad! It could have been a worse PS1 game. Or, you know. You could have got the usual deal, and got no games.

@Laughin_Caulk: Didn't mean to word it in a way that blames Capcom. Please add an edit button, everyone else has one, Even GiantBomb, who's buggy and won't even let me upload images.

@: I didn't mention the layout, it was a little cluttered, but there were demos and things on there I never even knew existed - it's the content that's loads better.
Tonight I'm gonna check out the Japanese store. I don't know why I do it to myself, it's just upsetting.

This is why when I pick up a PS3 it won't replace my 360. I'm loving the Summer of Arcade on 360 and getting games at the same time as the rest of the world just makes sense. Plus it means we're playing the games when the the NA websites/podcasts are talking about it, not months later.

@mikeck: It seems SCEI let everyone do their own thing since they couldn't get all the same hardware SKUs and let each branch publish games and market differently (just look the JPN store, lots of exclusive content)
But yes, this isn't excusable for an international publisher, especially since the game was also developed by Grin, a Swedish developer.
Laughin_Caulk
Posted 6:51 PM 15/8/08
@Santar:
The publishers then?
Yes they can do it for Microsoft, but they obviously only have one submission for all the stores, as Microsoft is centrally run from the US I think. However, SCEA SCEJ and SCEE do not work in tandem for the stores they run, therefore publishers have to deal with THREE submission processes, hence a lot of delays unfortunately.
I'm not arguing that Microsoft do it, and yes Sony should, but until they work out a structure that works for all regions, EU will always come bottom of the pile :(
Posted 6:50 PM 15/8/08
I want David Reeves' head on a stick. Really, SCEE is just a waste of space. And he's the boss.
Posted 6:48 PM 15/8/08
@Cheebahawk:
I really don't see how the US store is better...it's not. There are two many adverts, it's too cluttered with sub-categories within categories, and not as clean and simple as the EU store.
The content however, is better on the US store, but I disagree with all the naysayers about the layout, EU's better in my view.

Crap, excuse the bad spelling in my previous post. Kotaku really should get a edit feature.

Whoever is responsilbe for he constant delay of psn titles in europe should really get their act together. This is one hting the Microsoft is way better at. Can´t wait to buy Bc:Ra, hopefully it¨ll be out next week atleast.

I was so shocked looking round your PSN, it's so much nicer than ours.

It isn't SCEEs fault. SCEE deal with what they get. The problem is with SCEI which doesn't force companies to do global submissions like Microsoft does.
I feel sorry for SCEE for all the abuse they get. It really isn't their fault and are probably just as frustrated as us.

I'm REALLY stumped on that one. Would someone please enlighten me? =\

Huh!? The Irish store didn't get that stuff. All we got is the Tiger Woods Demo, two Nascar packs and a Fatal Inertia video! I loaded up the UK store and there it all was..
That's twice (that I know of, the Irish store has been different than the UK store. Wonder why...

Microsoft's submission process might be horrific, but at least they get things out pretty much simultaneously.

If anyone wants to buy from the US PSN store it's quite simple. Make a new user and sign up for a US store account. Now make a Entropay card and load it with funds from your credit card (follow instructions on the website). Now use the entropay card to fund your PSN wallet.
NOTE: Entropay charges 4.95% of your funding amount.
This is what I do and it works well for myself. Make sure you take proper security measures of course.

Too sick of it at this point to care, I'm just buying them on the 360 anyway.

To all those who buy from the US store you are contributing to the problem, as this gives SCEE no insentive to change...

@: yes but they have had over a year, bordering on two to sort a better structure out...
@Santar: doubt it, still waiting for 1942 Joint Strike, which has been out for about 5-6 weeks now everwhere else

Look on the "semi offical" (read ONLY) SCEE playstation blog, threespeech there is a article about Novastrike being updated to have trophy support, great right?
Only NovaStrike is not even out in PAL regions...

@Nilyx: Thanks for the tip. I've been looking for a half decent pre-pay credit card for a while for this very reason, the physical ones all seemed prohibitively expensive.
Now I can finally get hold of the Call of Duty mappack...

Sont really need to ghet their figner out on this. The EU is a big gaming market. So giving them more of a wait time for things on their online store is just costing them money. Not everyone over here has Credit Cards, more like Debit Cards, and the American PSN won't take them.

@Elrinth: @Elrinth: if you have a PAL copy of a game only PAL downloads work, this applies even to free stuff, remember the metal gear database? yes it was only delayed a week, but some stuff is delayed months...

Sony's really underestimating the potential of PSN but in europe at least it's really kicking people in the sack. It could be a really great thing for the PS3 and Sony, if only they stopped doing who knows what and begin to push the envelope. Because this whole situation now? It's monkey balls.

Three NASCAR 09 skin packs for, what, two squids each? That should generate literally ten pounds of revenue!

So when the heck do we eurpeans get the new SC IV stuff?
I'm a tad irritated that the premium edition wasn't even released here, and that we still haven't even gotten any word when the DLC America had from day one will come here.

I continue to be disgusted by the way that UK PS3 gamers are being treated. We're still waiting on 1942: Joint Strike, let alone Bionic Commando. If PixelJunk Eden can be released more or less simultaneously everywhere, what's the problem? If it's just a matter of translating the in-game text then give us the option of downloading the US version! I don't have a problem with "color" or "center" (although I admit to finding the way you guys pronounce "herbs" to be pretty objectionable...)

Excitement..building....aand....Sony lets the Europeans down with a damp squib again. Bloody Hell. When will being part of the PS3 scene actually feel exciting? The trophy buzz lasted all of two weeks, and props to Naughty Dog for getting Drakes patched so quickly, but come on Sony. Stoke the Goddamn fire for the Pal people.

The EU PSN store management might probably be lazy or had issues. Whatever be the case - It's there now. release date on the PSN EU reads 15/08/2008. I'll be its slackers.

@Mr.Monkey: Yeah. I bought it from a cool little independent shop, it turned out to be an import copy. Being how PS3 games are region-free I didn't think anything of it, until the mappack came out and I couldn't use the damn thing.
