Quest For Glory II Is Back, Yo
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 11:20 PM on August 25, 2008
Quest for Glory II is the greatest adventure game of all time. That's not opinion, either. It's fact. Science. Only problem is, the game's from 1990, so it's also a little...rough. No more! Thanks to the team at AGD (who have also done fantastic restorations of the first two Kings Quest games), the game's "quaint" old VGA graphics have been updated, the timing of the real-time puzzles have been made easier and dialogue is now taken care of via menus, instead of having to guess via text input. Oh, and it's 100% free. In other words, the greatest adventure game of all time just got greater.

They even included the character import/export feature that made the series so awesome. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

nice - I was going to ask about import/export... now all they have to do is revamp 1, 3, and 4 and I'll be happy. :D

AGD has made some fantastic remakes....theres another company that re-makes Sierra games, but I forget what they're called (and too lazy to look 'em up)
AAAAnyway, this rocks! Thanks Kotaku for the heads up!
Downloading right now!

I predict a spike in downloads in the hours following publication of this story.
The system requirements are adorable! 1MB of video RAM required (2MB suggested - ha-ha!), Pentium 500Mhz or above. 128MB RAM. Oh, and be sure to update to DirectX 5. Music to my ears!

When I first heard they were doing this, I was thrilled. Then I went to their coming soon page and heard the music and was delighted. Now I'm at work and hear that it's released and I'm... impatient.

I thought they would never finish this...for awhile there was no news at all and I just stopped checking the status.
@cliffjeff: QFG I already had a remake by Sierra. What exactly would you want them to do with QFG 3-4?
They should go back and update some of the older Space Quest games.

I love the quest for glory series, but i hated how constrictive II was.

QFG2 is my favorite QFG (and the first one I played in the series). It's the perfect hybrid of writing, setting, RPG, and adventure game. I have been waiting for this remake for literally years. Years.

Woohoo!!! This is excellent news, I can't wait to try it out!
I used to play QFG 4 on Halloween religiously, for 5 or 6 years...it never got old since the atmosphere was so incredible. I beat the remake of 1, 3, but never got into 2...now's my chance!

As someone introduced to the series by the original "Hero's Quest" before all the lawsuit ballyhoo, I have to turn a disapproving curl of the lip towards the point n' click system. That said, it warms my heart that someone not only dedicated the time to revitalizing a classic, but actually managed to get it to a release state. Still...
SCI interface 4 lyfe, yo.

I can only disagree because I never had the patience to finish the EGA text-based extravaganza. QFG1: So You Want to be a Hero is the greatest *game* of all time.
Thanks for this, though. I'll definitely be checking it out!

I cannot yet wait to visit my old friend, Roget the Saurus! :D
Seriously, though, ALL of the Q4G games need to be remade by someone, not only to make them fully playable on modern machines without deep wizardry involved, but so that they can be, well, playable. (I'm looking at YOU, Shadows of Darkness CD vesion, with your "crash game on the second screen if you click on the tree" bug and lack of proper patching.)

Why would they have to revamp QFG 1, 3 and 4? They are already using the SCI interface. As far as I know, ADG only convert the old Parser based games.
I wish they would convert Leisure Suit Larry 2 and 3, would be awesome. Or Space Quest 2 and 3.

@crescentfresh: They got permission from Vivendi. AGDI does that before releases to prevent hard work going down the legal tubes.

I don't understand how something like this can exist, yet the fan-made Space Quest VII got shut down by Vivendi. I notice that the King's Quest I and II remakes are no longer available on AGD's website either, making it even more curious. I followed both a Space Quest II and III remake effort, and both of those are gone now (though I don't know if they just quit, or were forced to shut down by Vivendi).

@cliffjeff: Well, #2 was never updated to a point and click-style adventure (as one was). I'm not sure why the others would need to be revamped.
This is pretty exciting. I received the Quest for Glory anthology years ago, but I only played through 1, 3, and 4. I tried to play 2 several times, but I would get lost (I still remember trying to map the way to the money changer) in the city every time. Of course, if the import/export feature works, the question is: do I install the first game and play through the series?

Has anyone tried this in Wine yet? And does it support importation of a character from QFG1? I remember playing this from 360kb disks back in the day, back when to find tips you had to scour every magazine in the newsagent monthly PRAYING that you'd find what you were looking for. I never ended up finishing it, it was just too hard for me.

Luke you just jumped up the list as my favorite article writer. xD I love the QfG series. Been waiting for thie remake from AVG for years.
Btw, Cliff, QfG 1,3, and 4 dont need a remake. 1 already got a remake and 3 and 4 still look fantastic. Especially 4. Voice acting was brilliant.
