does anyone but me think they might really try hard to block mods like they did with the 2nd retail version of SA. i no people will be able to do it, but after the last debacle of modding (hot coffee) i think they might try to engineer the PC version in a way that it will be incredibly hard to mod...

thats just me but if someone does manage to break through it i will def buy this, i was slightly disappointed by the 360 version. it seemed like a step bac from SA game play wise.

I marvelled at how well realised the city was, did a few missions, then got bored of doing the same thing over and over (i.e. drive here and shoot this person, go here and drop off this package etc. etc.) and went back to CoD4. PC fans, get ready for a very polished and impressive action game that can be fun online if you play with your friends. GTA fans, get ready to be very, very underwhelmed. In terms of GTAness, if San Andreas was 10/10, this is 2/10. An optimistic person (like me) will say that this is the cycle repeating itself and that the next ones will follow Vice City and San Andreas and add more and more. I really hope that it's true.

The main difference this time being i have GTA4 on ps3 and middlingly rubbish graphics card in the PC. When san andreas came out my graphics card was pretty good at the time.

Don't give into the hype. It's fun for a a handful of missions until you realize you're doing the same thing over and over and decide you want to stop playing.
Multiplayer sucks, too. Deathmatch for around a dozen people on gigantic maps does not work.

Hope some amazing mods come out, wait for the amazing mods to come out, or pass.

@Jerkfish: Well the jetpack is probably one of the best symbol of GTA. GTA4 was a better action game (obviously with better graphics) thanks to the gameplay changes and stuff but it was the poorest GTA game. There's a really big distinction. The missions were not just drivan and shootan in SA, and as big as it was each part of the map had a distinct "identity." Forest, desert, country, Las Vegas-like city, ghetto, San Francisco-like city, you name it. Not grimdark NYC everywhere. If you didn't like SA, you would love that one. But a GTA fan, would probably not (see Totilo's argument with Croal).

That and it will actually be nice to play this game at a decent resolution, the game rendered internally at something crappy like 640p, not even high definition. Sure it looks okay on a plasma when you are 10-15 feet away, but the game looked like crap 2 feet away from a nice LCD because of that low resolution. I'll finally be able to play it at 1680x1050 without any slowdowns, or fuzziness either as on the 360.

At minimum wage (in my State of residence), it would take roughly 9.6 hours to earn enough money to buy a $60 game. Pirating really isn't as hard as you say. You just find a nice torrent (or nzb, seeing as it's better then torrenting anyway), click a few buttons, return to your PC hours later (depending on your internet connection, seeders, etc) and install it. During which time you could be at a job working to spend money on things that matter.

Now that being said, I don't pirate and will probably buy this game. I enjoyed it enough on the Xbox to warrant a PC purchase.

Maybe it was just the hype that ruined it for me, but it is nothing compared to SA. The missions are boring and the combat took some awkward things out and added others like the cover system. They took out all of the fun stuff, took away all of the fun cheats and all GTAIV really has is a moderately good story. I mean I enjoyed it, but I was expecting EPIC missions to run alongside it, which never happened.

Mods for the PC version will make this game amazing, unfortunately I dont think I have the specs for it so I will have to stick with the 360 version :(

@Pezdispenser: ONE: Haven't had it RROD since I got it when they first came out; I trade in games to basically almost get new games for free; graphics are not thaaaaat much better on PC, maybe a little on very few select games; and the PC has much later release dates on most big name titles;

TWO: DLC is very rarely over $5 unless you're dumb and buy every new track pack for Rock Band, and what is $5 anyways compared to many double digit or triple digit costs to upgrade graphics on a PC.

Sometimes I wonder why the hell I own both a PS3 and a 360 when so many games end up coming to PC at some point, and my PC is more than capable of running them, and it looks better too. And I use a PS2 controller to play PC games so it's not like I'm stuck having to use a keyboard.

Anyone else in this same position? You have a nice PC gaming rig but you still buy console games? If so, why do you do it? I'm really starting to think about skipping on a lot of games that come to PC... Which, when it comes to the 360, is just about every game.

It is not a legal requirement, and If I stuck with the same PC for 10 years, then it's practically the same as having a 360/PS3 from launch to the end of it's own life cycle. TWO: You don't have to buy a new graphics card every time a new game comes out. It's a radical idea, but you only need one card to run multiple games. Astonishing, I know. You'd have to be stupid to assume that you have to upgrade every single month.

THREE: PC has Achievements too, as well as free mods, free skins, free editors and tools to make your own stuff, and all of this stuff is fun too. You don't even have to pay 200 MS Points to customize yourself either. Also, FREE PORN!

Graphic power starts and ends with PCs You don't get a playstation upgrade in graphics, you gotta by a new machine. You wanna call it convenient fine, but its really NOT that hard to upgrade a PC.

The cost involved to make these games for PC is non-exist of what it is to be licensed for consoles.

There's nothing wrong with liking console games, but don't EVER believe they are better than PCs because that's exactly what console makers want you to believe. How else are they going to convince you to buy their next generation gaming machine?

Building your own computer costs ~$800 if you want to run all current games at maxed settings. And you only have to upgrade one part every year on average to maintain that. It's not nearly as expensive as you make it out to be.

Either way, GTA games have basically been the same since 3, I don't have much interest in getting this.

Apparently pirates are helping the industry by "sticking it to the man". Thank God that sereal is here to set us on the right course. His insightful analysis that pirates are saving the industry by making developers try harder is most welcome.

Or perhaps pirates are just cheapskates who are destroying PC gaming and starving developers of resources, all the while mouthing off in gaming industry forums about how they are doing nothing wrong.

I think pirates do force developers to make better game and online features. The games that should fear piracy the most are so so games.

Piracy helps good games get known, same goes for music...I am against private servers and stuff although. When I really like something, I will buy it.

But this is the 21st century, media is everywhere, I think the way we pass our time and money is important to pretty much everyone. I will never blindly buy a game that I never played, or don't know the series, didn't hear if it's good or not. I don't really trust game rankings although, so downloading for free, is the best way to see if that entertainment is worth my hard worked money.

Has for me, 95% of what I download, I would have never bought anyway, unless I was rich beyond measures.
And in that 95%, there's what make me buy 5% more then I would normally.

If I had more money, I would buy more...and if people bought more, then I might have more money! lol

If the game was mediocre, seeders would not waste their bandwidth in some selfless act of altruism. Why would uploaders spend the time to buy that so so game and upload it in the first place?

Oh, and the "testing the game by downloading it" is pretty much what DEMOS are for.

Pirates need to stop making excuses and acknowledge that they are pirating out of their own greed and selfishness.

Developers take a risk by spending millions of dollars on creating a game, so you can take a (much smaller) risk by buying a game based on reviews and the impressions of other gamers. I'm absolutely sick of pirates who download a game, play it from start to finish, then say: "Meh, it was OK, but not worth my money".

"I don't have the money" isn't a valid excuse. When I was a student, I didn't have enough money to buy all the games I wanted, so I just cut down on the beer and parties so I could afford a couple of games a month, and kept a list of games that I wanted but couldn't afford.

When graduated and got a job, I went back and bought the games on the list.

I'm not surprised by this at all. Every single GTA game has come out on the PC later (as far as GTA3 and up have gone) and so I expected the same. What I'll be excited to see are the mods people come up with and than post online.

Fot instance Compare the sales of Crysis with those of Halo 3, for instance. Even though the PC is the biggest gaming platform on the planet, Crysis' sales come nowhere near Halo 3's sales.

Now what does that tell you? Exactly. Shit gets pirated massively on PC, which is why publishers choose to release games on less-pirated (console) platforms first.
