Roger Avary Still At Work On Wolfenstein Script
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 1:15 PM on August 4, 2008
Don't go expecting that Wolfenstein movie adaptation any time soon. A combination of the writer's strike and his own workload (plus, uh, some other stuff) means Roger Avary is still working on the movie's script. And with nobody else having seen it, it's to be presumed he's only just started it. Bummer. While id's Todd Hollenshead revealed to Eurogamer that the movie deal includes some "contract provisions", stating Avary can't just sit on the property forever, he also admits that it's not every day you get a chance to have an Academy Award winner write your movie. Not every day an Academy Award winner gets to write a movie about nazis, zombies and a mechanised Adolf Hitler, either.

Does this game REALLY warrant a movie release? I mean c'mon its like me announcing a Pong movie. It's just not that deep a game.

@atreides: If Robo Hitler's happy, EA hasn't made enough WWII games.

@velvet396: Clearly you never played Wolfenstein 3D! That's just a mechanical suit that Hitler is in. Like a 1940's Iron Man... except evil.
Now that you mention it though, it looks exactly like those jars with the heads in them in Futurama.

Ah yes, I remember the Episods of old school Wolfenstein.
I heard about it by seeing it on display at Egghead Software (old school).
It was like $5 Shareware. Those were the days...

Oh, Avary. I thought he'd be the savior of gaming movies with Silent Hill.
But that script... oi... why Avary, why?

Roger Avary has no business being a scriptwriter. For fuck's sake, he refused to play any of the Silent Hill games before he wrote the script for the movie based on them. I bet he doesn't even know there was a Robo-Hitler in Wolfenstein 3D. I don't care if he won academy awards, any talent he may have once had is gone.
