Sims 3 Will Be Out In February 2009
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 5:45 PM on August 20, 2008
During EA's press conference in Leipzig earlier this morning, it was announced that the game destined to sell a gagillion copies - The Sims 3 - has a firm release date. And that date's February 20, 2009. That's a global, simultaneous release as well, mind you, just in case you're in Europe and were going to bug us about that in the comments section.

I don't like the look of these new sims games, I loved the sims 1 though. Heck I still have it installed and play it on occasion (sims 2, played a few odd times).

Man that trailer at E3 was horrible.. it was like they were blatantly telling everyone who was not a 14-year-old-emo-girl to piss off.

@Metal_Slug_Solid:
There's less micromanagement, more concrete goals that is more like 'quests' in RPGs (generated based on your sim's stats and environment) and character creation that is a bit like Fallout's 'traits' system (sloppy, neat, nice, evil, creative etc.).

@CarbonFalcon: haha removing the steps from the pool, an instant classic. never quite touched the cheat code that allowed you to remove items whilst they were being used. thats it precious, have a shower, you've had a long day... OH BABY THE BLUR HAS GONE, EDIT HOUSE MODE, MOVE SHOWER ... oh yeah, yeah... 3d rendered females naked in the shower, giggidy giggidy.

@hk458: There was any other reason to play the game?

I'm not buying another Sims title only for Mortimer Goth to not return my affections. I moved in next door to you, Mortimer. You'd think that'd be a shining example of my dedication to us. The room with the telescope and wastebasket was there when I bought it.

I hope there's more new stuff than what they've announced so far... The elimination of horrible, long loading times doesn't quite justify a new game.

@hk458:
What about walling them in until they starve? Or the removing all the toilets gag?
And who could forget the one where you take the ladder out of the pool?

This is a terrible move! They'll stop selling "The Sims 2 Ikea Home Stuff" if they do this. On the other hand, they could get everyone who bought the Sims 2 to buy this! Genius!
(In all seriousness, The Sims is a pretty decent franchise. I only ever had the first Sims with about 5 expansion packs though.)

One question though, Can I still set them on fire and laugh at their agony?
Don't give me that look, you all know you do it to.

I've always hated the sims 2 look, but I still played it. Something about the style of it really bugs me. Hope sims 3 looks different.

Seems like they're still coming out with tons of expansion packs for The Sims 2. I guess i'm not buying those if 3 is releasing in 6 months. They're too damn expensive anyway.

So is this one of the two unannounced games from EA?
Wait a minute, EA had a press conference this morning and there and no major site covered it? What's the deal?
Is it old news from E3 or something?

@Metal_Slug_Solid: I just messed around with the Sims 2 for the first time recently, and you're not kidding about the loading times. For a minute, I thought I'd accidentally installed the Sims 2 to a tape drive from 1983.

@EmpressInYellow: Yeah, right back atcha. It's as if the whole game is on magnetic tape.

@Metal_Slug_Solid: What about the elimination of game killing time paradoxes? That's at least enough for me to buy it. It's how 2 should have been.

Sims2 used to take forever and a day to load for me, but really...it's just the ancient computer. I got a new one (for other reasons) and it's no longer a waste of time to go Downtown or on Vacation, since you don't have to go make yourself a six course meal in the time it takes either area to load.
I think if you were to purchase a decent machine made recently you'd experience a major increase in the playability of the game. Great graphics cards help. Who know you'd see reflections in your pool if your comp had the power to do so?

@EmpressInYellow:My PC just refused to load it after a while. But my god, yes, the loading times sucked.
@Yin:Time paradoxes? In my Sims?

Is that a sign of bullying in this game? We all know that is not allowed.
I will not be surprised if someone tries to start a ban on Sims 3.

@Foxstar Sixtail: Any time spent outside your own lot "never really happens" as far as time is concerned(this coupled with loading times = leaving your house is just annoying) and people on the lots you aren't playing doesn't age which leads to for example that your kids friends will be kids forever (or until you play with them). If you want more lots than one and want them to age simultaneusly you have to make some kind of schedule to play with each for an hour or something sucky like that.

Meh. From what I've read so far about TS3, it seems that
Sims 2:Sims 3 :: SimCity 4:SimCity Societies
That translates to DO NOT WANT. I liked the challenge of micromanaging in TS1 and 2. Also, the TS3 sims look like their faces were, as one person put it, "carved out of ham".

I always thought "The Sims" franchise was pathetically stupid. Kinda like a any John Grisham book... horrible idea, bad execution, and yet a best seller for some strange reason. I found it ironic that people spent more time caring for a Sim character than they do for themselves.

Great, the Sims 2, which is probably the most expensive franchise evar, now becomes obsolete in Feb 2009. And they're just releasing another expansion next week, Apartment.
Is Will Wright making the Sims 3?

Luckily ive only ever bought just the Sims 2 game and no expansions ($5 used ftw!)....so i dont have to worry about buying Sims 3 and realizing i now wasted lots of money a billion Sims 2 expansions. Of course im not a crazed fan of the Sims, so we'll see how long it take before i even buy the 3rd installment.

@Yin: They already addressed that. Sims outside your lot age as well. The entire neigborhood blends seamlessly with your lot so everything is in sync now.

Nice graphic.
I'd be perversely excited by a Sims 3: Playground that lets players experience the harrowing, psyche-crushing joys of being walled into a school playground for the duration.
The idea of hearing squeaky Simish voices chant, "Eat a bug... Eat a bug... Eat a bug!" is only matched in anticipation of the 40 different animation effects of the parochial school denizens giving each other wedgies. But watch out for those horrible Heathers-in-training, who'll convince 1/3 of the kids to shun you, just to prove they can.
Sort of like Bully on a Dead Man's Switch.

I kinda liked the feel of Sims 1 over Sims 2. Maybe it was the music. Maybe it was the look. I don't know. ... I hope Sims 3 has a lot to offer, but not too much to alter the original's formula.

Has anyone else noticed how outdated the engine looks?...it's almost exactly the same as the Sims 2, i expected them to update it a bit and be a bit more realistic...I hope they have drastically upgraded the content to make up for it.
