Sony Announce SingStar: Queen

This was kinda lost in the maelstrom of Sony news from yesterday, but is worth pointing out today; Sony have announced two new PS2 SingStar games. One isSingStar: Singalong With Disney, but the second? It's SingStar: Queen. That's not some corny title for a "queens of pop" collection or something, either, it's the literal application. Queen. Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon. It'll be out later in the year, and will be accompanied by two Queen song packs for the PS3 SingStore, though these will probably just be ten of the better tracks from the PS2 version. Sony, listen, let's make a deal: you put "Who Wants To Live Forever" on there, and I'll take back almost everything bad I've ever said about SingStar. Almost.

That's more than awesome. Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Me Now and about three dozen more songs by one of "classical" rock's finest groups? I'll urge someone with a PS2 to buy this, this thing will be sweeter than a mountain of sugar.

Oh, wow.
This is very awesome news, however I reckon Freddie is as inimitable a voice as rock will ever have. Keeping up with his hooks and twists may prove the toughest challenge videogames have ever seen.
Seriously, I've been to a lot of karaoke parties, and seen a lot of people try to sing "Don't Stop Me Now", and even more frequently than I've seen an alpha-male stumble on the lyric "I'll make a supersonic man out of you", I have witnessed some truly horrendous vocal-cord snapping action. I have seen single moments where everyone in the room -- even the sober ones -- experiences a sudden undrunkening.
I will now try my hand at writing some PR copy:
"SingStar: Queen: Are you a bad enough dude to keep up with Freddie? You're Gonna Need a Lot More Beer!"

Ugh... why doesn't any of this come out over in NA for PS2?
I'm embarrassed to admit that maybe the number 1 reason that I would get a PS3 would be for SingStar. I've got a 360 for all my other gaming needs but I probably play almost as much SingStar (the five available in NA) on my PS2 as I do most of my other games.
As a kid I was a solo gamer but I find now that it's so much more about social gaming...

I'm not a big sony fan or a singstar fan but a Queen version is pretty sweet. I mean just being able to sing "The Show Must Go On", "I Want To Break Free", and "Bicycle Race" would be quite awesome.

Hopefully the PS3 SingStore version will be an acceptable cost. If so, totally Sign me up. Lips has really got it's work cut out for it with moves like this from Sony.

Its starts off great with Singstar:Queen and other memorable bands, but pretty soon id spirals out of control and we get Singstar:Steps and Singstar:X-factor/American Idol edition

The problem is that Freddie's voice is pretty damn high.
I'd imagine most of these songs would be quite hard to sing.

I've never understood why games seems to hate putting queen in them they did so many great songs and so few games seem to even bother putting them in a game. Is there some reason that makes it difficult?

Oh. My. GOD!!! Yes!! I have never purchased a singing game for myself (the Rock Band I got for Christmas for my friend has satiated me in terms of singing), but I am going to make an exception for this one! Queen is number 3 (very much in the battle for 2) on my list of favorite bands, so, yeah! Very very excited!
Also: "Who Wants To Live Forever" BETTER be on there, or I may question purchasing it, for it has one of the greatest lyrics in any song ever: "But touch my tears with your lips/Touch my world with your fingertips/And we can have forever"

@108: I think that Singstar rock (UK edition) had "Don't stop me now". That was REALLY hard. I'm not sure if they are going to repeat tracks since it was already in a previous Singstar...
I think this is going to be the best Singstar pack (now, if they could bring back the story mode... pleeease!)

By far, one of my favorite bands of all time. Brian May is the musician who inspired me to play guitar. Plus he is a total geek...he just finished his PhD in astronomy.
Very excited about failing to sing these songs well.

@TRT-X: Sure, I feel you, but think about how the total diehard Aerosmith fan felt about GH:A... I know if they released a GH:Queen game, I'd, like, buy three copies, just for good measure.
I think GH:Queen would sell quite well in Europe, actually. My only fear would be 1) super-horrible covers, and 2) super-puzzling omissions from the setlist. Friends Will Be Friends... AAHHHH!!!! No Way! I fuckin love queen. I remember Brian May walking past me to the elevator in Las Vegas a couple years ago, i almost shit myself. How is anyone suppose to match freddie mercury though. I think id fail out of Somebody to Love at the very beginning.

Nooo! I've been praying for a Queen edition of Rock Band/Guitar Hero ever since the series started! And what do I get? Singstar. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but I'd sooner saw my own arm off before I sing infront of people.

SingStar Queen nice. On the PS2 not nice. How about Sony you bring these songs to the PS3 or at least let me rip the songs off the PS2 version so I can store them on the PS3. Because I have a PS3 and want to use it I don't need more PS2 games. So just bring these songs to the PS3 or let people download the songs off the PS2's disks. Do some thing nice let the people play there songs on the PS3 without having to change disks.

I've never played any SingStar game before. Nor have I had any interest in them.
But this... this just might make me buy one.
This might just be me, but I find myself preferring all of the band-specific titles that are being released/announced/rumored as compared to the normal titles...
