Street Fighter Movie Writer Takes Things VERY Seriously
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 12:20 PM on August 12, 2008
Come on. Admit it. You love it to death, sure, but Street Fighter is absolutely ridiculous. Electrified Brazilian jungle mutants? Elastic-limbed Indian yoga masters who can breathe fire? It's comic book stuff. And as rubbish as the 90's live-action movie was, at least it knew that much. But the new Street Fighter movie? The one being written by Justin Marks? Don't expect ridiculosity. Expect serious business. Because Marks takes his Street Fighter very, very seriously.
I grew up with the 'Street Fighter' games. I don't see them as cheesy or funny, but as serious characters that deserve to be explored in their own right.
Which explains, we guess, why the movie's based on the exploits of Chun Li and not the exploits of a large Russian man who wrestles bears in his underwear.

That last sentence in this article is what makes this article great.
Anyway is it just or did they increase the size of chun li's thighs in the Street Fighter 4 screens. Is it 3 or 4?

More importantly, how long after the studio releases promo stills will it take for people to create "dark" versions of the characters by photoshopping their eyes red?

The customary outfit for bear fights is a freshly starched collar, green tie, and green fedora.

Chun Li's...thighs...^^
All though when I hear this, I still think of the animated series where I think movie is a bad day, the executives are going 'THIS IS DELICIOUS'.

The "its comic book stuff" line was pretty stupid seeing how most summer blockbusters are now based off of comics.

To be fair, I don't think it really matters what you're wearing when you wrestle a bear: it's going to rip you to shreds no matter what you've got on (unless you're Zangief or Jackie Moon).

And Plunkett, you'd better not be mocking Zangief. He just wants your face... in his BALLS.

Unless they accept the surreal world they're working within, then it's not going to be serious, especially not if you try to make it work in real life.

It really depends on how you define "serious". To me, this means he's going to be making a standard martial arts action flick using Street Fighter names, at the very least. Maybe they'll even show Vega as a bit of a druggie (I remember reading that in one of the short novels way, way back when)? The characters are probably going to be represented in a way that is less comically exaggerated than the source material.
I personally don't see anything wrong with that. I'll give it a look to see if it works anyway.

And that's exactly why it wasn't meant to be live-action. Live-action movies make the attacks look ridiculous as opposed to things like the SF2 Animated Movie, which I watched over and over as a kid.

@sarcasmOD: It's because Zangief is obviously gay. He doesn't wrestle bears in the sense that immediately comes to mind for most people. The kind of bears he wrestles probably insist on underwear or less.
