Thai Ministry of Health's 10 Most Dangerous Games
Posted by Brian Crecente at 4:00 AM on August 7, 2008
In what appears to be the wake of the Thai killing linked to Grand Theft Auto IV, the Thai Ministry of Health has put together a list of the ten most dangerous video games, Cnet Asia reports.
The original press release is in Thai, which I don't read, but the Cnet Asia reporter seems to be saying the release of the list and the killing are related. Now that Thailand has decided to pull one game from shelves, what's to stop them from pulling the ten on this list, which includes God of War and 300, the game, not the movie.
Here's your full list of "dangerous games".
1- GTA
2- Man Hunt
3- Scarface
4- 50 Cent - Bullet Proof
5- 300
6- The Godfather
7- Killer 7
8- Resident Evil 4
9- God of War
10- Hitman
Thai Ministry of Health's 10 most dangerous video games (yeah, you read that right) [Cnet Asia]

Blood Money is like 10 years old. They got 10 year old crimes that they think are video game related? This dbag kill someone whenever he bought a new game? If not, what makes you think its games rather then something else?
That is the whole problem with these bullshit claims. How the hell do you prove causality? You can't, all you can do is insinuate, predict, and assume.

International copies of God of War actually shoot out of the systems fast enough to cause bodily harm. And playing 50 Cent: Bulletproof without sufficient body protection will cause cancer.
And trying to look for a copy of the original GTA at your local game store will probably get you slapped for being a moron.
... And Capcom has been known to deliver Tyrant Grade B.O.W.s to dissenting governments so I'd be cautious if I were you Thailand.
... ... I could do this all day.

I sincerely think it's hilarious that "God of War" and "Resident Evil 4" made the list. Because you have to shield children from the incredible urge to murder Ares and Zeus. You have got to have priorities.
And seriously, what about all other God of War's and Rez Evil's? Is it okay to play the other ones? What does this list do besides fail to serve it's purpose? What is it's purpose? This is stupid.

As crappy a game as 300 was... I'm sure it's on that list because it's pro-capitalist propaganda (i.e. Spartans are Americans and all others are the godless Persians.) " The Public Health Ministry, which has monitored the impact of thse games on the mental and physical health of young Thais, yesterday released a list of 10 online games which have been banned in the United States since last year because of their inappropriate content...
They are: Manhunt; Scarface; 50 Cent: Bulletproof; 300: The Video Game; The Godfather; Killer; Resident Evil 4; God of War; Hitman: Blood Money; and Grand Theft Auto."
Read over at the GamePolitics article. Huh, I don't remember any of the GTA games being banned, well, SA until they had to edit it (and yes, editing a game does not equal banning as one GP poster said).
And not only that, but other then GTA IV, I don't think any of those games are actually online.

I hate all of this ignorant fear mongering. Instead of posting a simplistic "who's who" of gaming, parents (yes even Thai parents) should instead take the initative to research waht each of these games are about and then decide whether they're right for their children. I mean come on! The only thing that could possibly encourage violence in 50 cent's bulletproof, is that "fitty's" FACE is on the cover.
Don't let the government raise your child, take initative, BEAT YOUR KIDS!

The only thing dangerous about Bullet Proof is that 50 cents money fault might explode killing his butlers, from the cash he pocketed from Bullet proof and will pocket from blood in the sand.
On a more serious note, I saw some 6 year olds with Bullet Proof on the train excitiedly chatting about their new purchase.
Did anyone actually play that 300 game on PSP?

@kosbee: Custer's Revenge would probably be in the "most likely to make you want to have sex with native american stereotypes" category, not in the "most dangerous" -probably meaning "most violent." I think Xman is more dangerous than Custer's Revenge, anyway (because your junk can get cut or bitten off!).
I'm going to make a videogame for the SNES (because I need the physical volume of the cartridge, and to maintain trendy retro feel) where the box contains scorpions (very, very angy scorpions), the rulebook summons beelzebub if read aloud, the cartridge is covered in razor blades and hardly fits into the slot unless considerable pressure is applied, it requires 3 drops of fresh orphans' blood to run (orphans under the age of 6), and promptly explodes when your name is entered. They shant deprive me of the Most Dangerous Game title, they shant!

@Jayge: Agreed, agreed, it IS all fantasy, however, while I'm used to people slamming the real world imitators, God of War is a literal interpretation of the "Fantasy" genre, so it seems even more ridiculous to go after it.
For example, fine, you don't want kids playing games with real thugs and guns, real tools of violence, but the Blades of Chaos? That's just silly. And the violence is so stylized, it's just foolish. But the most foolish thing is how the list omits tons of games that would also be considered dangerous by the standards of the above list.

WoW isn't included on the list because the creators of the list are too addicted to the game to even realize how damaging it can really be. The first step to creating a good list of the most dangerous games is to admit that you have a problem with a dangerous game! Just kidding, sorta.

Whether it's Thailand or the United States, politicians are the same everywhere. They probably just had some random intern come up with a list of 10 "violent" games with no real rhyme or reason. I'll go out on a limb here and guess that most the employees of the Ministry of Health probably have children who have played one or more of these games without murdering anyone.

Glad to see the Thai government took a minute off from putting Austarlians to death for smuggling in pot to create a list of videogames, based on their "dangeroussness" level.

Well, then the Thailand Government is claiming they have a country full of easily-influenced idiots.
When did it become our right to tell them that their citizens are real people?
