playstation 3

Thanks, Guys - In July, we posted about Zak Touilii, a disabled Australian teenager whose PS3 and games - donated by the Make A Wish foundation - had been stolen by thieves who broke into his home. Was a bastardly act. One which has in turn generated a very un-bastardly response: we've heard a bunch of Kotaku commenters got together, raised some money and presented Zak with a cheque for $US 425. Which should go a long way towards restocking Zak's games library (Sony Aus having already replaced his PS3). To those of you who kicked in, thanks.

The people who donated are, like those who give to Penny Arcade's charity, the unsung heroes of the gaming community. The media will never write about these types of gamers, but at the end of the day, that doesn't matter. *raises hat*

I know this sounds weird or stupid but his sister thats hugging him sure is pretty. :D
Whoever steals from someone weaker then you should be damned. Karma is a blessing and a curse if you play the game right.
On a serious note I would donate if I wasn't in the red with my credit card, happy to see he's getting his property back. :D

So elsewhere guys can legitimately buy used playstations and get tracked down by the police for theft just by using it online, as I swear I've seen on Kotaku posts before, and here's some guy who had his stolen in a high profile fashion and that's it, its gone, end of story?

Something which would be nearly impossible to accomplish with the cacophony of disrespect that is the typical internet website community.

How is it any more bastardly than any other console theft, the thieves didn't know he was disabled or that the PS3 was a gift from a charity. Would any regular member of the public receive a free replacement unit from sony in the event of theft? Could I get money raised if I said some of my games were stolen?
No? Didn't think so, what makes this kid special, other than when it's spelt with a capitol 'R'?

Now let's get together and remove the balls of the thieves with a bunch of pliers. Oh shit, Manhunt II is taking over my mind. Or is it 'The Project.'
Nice act. Kudos to the internet.
This act is more bastardly because of the situation. Maybe the thieves did not know about that. But they should not have stolen it in the first place. Everything is about context.

Wow, 400 whole dollars? Now his entire family can move on up to that deeeluxe apartment in the sky. Seriously though, I spend that amount of money in a weekend on crack and booze alone. If you'd have just asked, Kotaku, I would have Paypaled you $400 lickety-split. I love helping out rosy-cheeked disabled Australian teenagers whenever I can.
@StuiWooi: You're right StuiWooi, Zak should get a fucking job and buy his own shit. What's really bastardly is what he and people like him are doing to us hard-working tax payers. Lounging by the pool while we support them?!
It's just not right!

Would have been nice to mention this earlier. Mister Adequate
Posted 11:25 PM 26/8/08
@StuiWooi: It's worse because it affects him more. If my console gets stolen, well that's shitty, but there's still a billion other things I can do to entertain myself while it's tracked down, or while I claim the insurance, or while I save up for a new one. A 14 year old disabled kid? What the hell can he do about it, he's got an advanced, horrible disease that's confined him to a wheelchair before most of us even get laid. The PS3 was pretty much all he HAD to keep himself amused. That's why it's more bastardly. He needed it more, it hurt him more, and the poor guy's already got enough shit on his plate.
