The Art Of DJ Max Fever
Posted by Mike Fahey at 10:20 AM on August 27, 2008
Have you ever looked at the artwork and graphics for a game and known right then and there that you had to have it, no matter what the game was about? I didn't know anything about the DJ Max series before publisher PM Studios passed on this collection of artwork for the game. Hell, I had even missed Luke's post announcing that DJ Max Fever, a combination of Korean bestselling music rhythm games DJ Max Portable and DJ Max 2 was coming to the states this November. I suppose I could just download these screens to my PSP and just use them as wallpaper, but what the hell, I'll give the game a chance too.

Right + Square are just -way- too hard to get down for some reason. I tried the demo 100+ times and every time it was a middle bar I had to hit, Deer stuck in Headlights =/

@Erwin: It's basically Beatmania on the PSP. Lots of fun if you're into these kind of games. If you don't know what Beatmania is, Guitar Freaks/DDR/Guitar Hero on the PSP would be a somewhat valid description as well (in that order ^^).

This game's been out in Korea for ages already; I wonder what made them want to suddenly release it in the US.
I hope when they say they're combining both DJ Max Portable and DJ Max 2 they don't just mean 3 or 4 songs from the first game into the second like they did for the Korean release.

I don't find art in games to be very important, it's nice if it's there but if it isn't not much loss.
Aquaria is the only game I can think of that the art really made the game.

(And like other posters, I also wish Magna Carta had been a bearable game. I think I could have slogged through it if the voice acting hadn't been so painful.)

4 button mode is liek really hard. I got to combo difficulty 8 and 9 songs, but it needed hard work. The art is wallpaper size and can be ported from the game to the PICTURE folder on your MS; but you have to unlock this art and you get them by max combos... not easy... I'm alright with the 'Korean'-but-the-game-is-in-English deal". So I'll get the new port when it arrives :)
ps. The songs are awesome.

Looking in the back of the manual for DJMP2, the art and opening animation are credited to 'ache'. Now, keep in mind that Korean developers like to credit to their nicknames (For instance, the director of DJMP2, Bong Gun-Shin is credited in the manual as 'ponGlow'). Looking through the opening credits, one can see that there is only one person credited to both art and the opening animation and that is one Seok Ye-Jeong.
I'm not sure if I'll pick up Fever; since I already have 1 and 2. It would be interesting to see if Dreadnought made it onto Fever since it was pulled from 1 International because of its depiction of Dubya.
@pandafresh: Would you rather have traced versions of all of your favorite anime characters?

The portable titles on PSP are probably my favorite games of all time. The exhilaration is unmatched when you're fighting for dear life on a lv10-12 track (well, wherever is challenging for you, but as you get better at these games they get a LOT more fun as you get more involved with playing each level.)
I have the imports but if it comes here I'll buy it too. I'm a big beatmania fan, but I really think they surpassed Konami in variety, production quality, and things like having a unique video for every song, pausing, on the fly speed adjustment, the skin/gear & experience system etc. And it's a handheld game, which beatmania last did on GBC and Wonderswan.
