The First US Arcade With Street Fighter IV
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 7:00 PM on August 13, 2008
Here it is! This is apparently the first US arcade to have Street Fighter IV. It's in Southern California, which is good for people who live there, but bad news for people who live in Maine. Here's the details:
Super Arcade
1211 N. Grand Ave
Walnut, CA 91748
MAP
As game site SDTEKKEN points out, that's right across the street from Mt. San Antonio College and near a Jack In The Box. Above is a picture of a Jack In The Box to make you hungry.

@winstano:
HA! I always tease people about me being a Brummie and having a strong accent.
The truth is that I lost my accent many, many years ago, it's really hard to chat someone up when you say,
"alroight luv yow look propper bustin!der yow wanna dance?"
It's only when I am;in the presence of other brummies, watching the football or feeling rough that I lose my rather, well spoken B.B.C. received pronunciation.
Although it is funny watching the looks of horror on the Chinese exchange students and teachers I know when I slip into Brummie.

@17-A: Yeah, its nice for a 2 week vacation, but then give me back my city life pl0x. Now living near a calm ocean with familiar people around sounds like a dream, every last day of it.
Still, give us the damn console version though. I want to get my Shoriyuken on!

Maybe not so much good news for people in Maine, but Tokyo Game Action in Mass is supposed to be getting a SF4 machine in September, so New England won't have to do without entirely!

neat another mainer on kotaku as late as I am.
The good things about maine far outweigh the bad. I'd love to raise kids here someday, but I'm not there yet. There's little crime, the public schools are decent (better than Mass), the air is clean, there's always something to do outside, we're on the coast, etc. As soon as college is done I'm going exploring around the US and Europe because like you said, I am sick of it right now.

WOW an actual honest to goodness arcade! the only time you see arcades in the U.K. is at dodgy seaside resorts like Skegness and Blackpool, where they are full of mouthbreathing chavs playing crappy bingo/one armed bandit games.
Honestly it's like watching a seen from dawn of the dead if the zombies where all clad in burberry and moaned "uuuurggh Sharrroooooon...uurrrghhhh" as there knuckles dragged along the floor.

The real bad news for people who live in Maine? We're living in Maine.
Yes, I'm saying this as a Mainer. The quaint rural charm is nice in small doses but constant exposure to it is its own form of cabin fever. Think of it this way: read "Walden" or another such work by Thoreau. Paints such a pretty picture, doesn't it? Now imagine reading it once a day. You'd get sick of it, wouldn't you?
Now, Penny Arcade's Gabe & Tycho have taken a step in the right direction by planning to hold an east coast version of PAX in 2010, but that doesn't go far enough. I say Capcom needs to get some Winnebagos loaded with SFIV machines out here pronto as a public service. Quickly, before the beautiful forest landscape consumes us all!

And it should be ready, at the location very soon. =D

but if we're trading things, im keeping the heat and latin womenses. im offering Pitbull and the entire genre of reggaeton for a single SF IV arcade unit.

@Suda51: Capcom putting SFIV in arcades first is a bad thing?
This is perhaps the only example in the current gen sequel fever of a publisher attempting to retain the soul of a loved franchise. Street Fighter was born in arcades, and it belongs there. God bless you Capcom for knowing this and attempting to keep SF in touch with its roots.
Relax, the console version is coming.

@lockes_key:
Cost.
Arcade machines were pretty much unbeatable unless you pumped money into them like a government into failing a mortgage seller. Why go to a smelly dank arcade,(because they were,) to spend loads for just a single play when you could go home and get games that played,(if not looked similar to,) games you could have at an arcade.
The moving ride-on hydraulic machines were the last gasp of a failing industry to give an experience that you couldn't get at home, but all they did was price themselves out of the market in terms of cost and space for the small arcades who didn't have the advantage of being part of a large chain.

Man that picture makes me hungry for Jack in the Box, shame there aren't any in my area and it's been ages since I've had it

I've enjoyed a delicious meal at that Jack in the Box.
It's about 30mins from my house and I used to date a girl that lived right over there. Crazy!
I can only imagine that after a Frank and Sons expo in West Covina there is going to be a flood of people going to that arcade.

Haha, I saw this article's title and the picture of Jack in the Box and thought that a fast food joint had SFIV.

@KidKardona: he's right, fucking *ANYTHING* is better than SA. They should've just gone down the street to AI.

Super Arcade?
...really?
That place is a dump...maybe that's why they chose that location to test. *shrug*
I'll still be there :D

@dougdanger: LOL, That would be the greatest deal in the world. Could you imagine Capcom getting with Jack in the Box and saying, " So we got this, idea you buy all these dedicated SF4 cabs and see that revenue shoot throw the roof"!

Where the hell is Walnut? I swear, they always release new cabinets in the most obscure places. If you're going to release it in California, why not someplace like San Francisco?

@catsoup: 2 things. 1 - SFIV isn't being released in U.S. arcades, only in Japan. 2 - It's in Walnut and not San Francisco because the owner of Super Arcade decided to shell out the cash to have it imported and shipped across the Pacific Ocean, God bless 'im

@djricekcn: I think you're confusing Super Arcade with Arcade Infinity. Arcade Infinity was the one that had the pool hall right next door. If only AI was in a better area, it wouldn't be under city ordinance to shut down at 11pm. Super Arcade is the arcade next to Cal Poly and Mt SAC, which is about a 15 minute drive from AI.
On another note, it's nice to see the owner of Super taking more initiative lately. I was really surprised when I walked in there and saw Tekken 6, now we get SFIV, nice. Granted, AI would've been an ideal place to release SFIV, I'm not complaining that Super got it, its only a 5 minute drive for me anyways. Now, if only the owner would take the initiative to focus on the Drummania and Guitar Freaks machines and get those updated! I've been playing DMV and GFV for like....ages now.

Just went down to Super Arcade yesterday... (only about 2 minutes away, seriously.)
Picked Balrog.. got whooped by Sagat..
IMO, it's slow and doesn't have a great first impression.. but its also one of those games that you know will gradually grow on you and become one of your favorites in due time.
I just need more time with it and less idiots around the arcade cabinet.
