The GC Adventure Comes To A Close
Posted by Mike Fahey at 8:00 AM on August 25, 2008
The magical Games Convention adventure has come to a close, and the Kotaku Mike Brigade have gone their separate ways, McWhertor travelling deeper into the wilds of Germany while I myself am only 13 hours worth of layover and a 9 hour plane ride away from U.S. Customs, which means I might get home by Friday if they don't open my luggage and discover I've replaced most of my clothes with gummi candy and beer.
I am desperately fighting the urge to queue up Semisonic's "Closing Time" in my Zune here.
Just because our journey is over doesn't mean the coverage is over, so check out our Leipzig round up to see what you missed, and stay tuned tomorrow for more posts from the GC!

Thanks for the coverage.
I want a Zune so bad. But I have a older Mac Mini. So, there goes that. :/

I'm honestly jealous about the gummies. Unless I go to the cost-plus, they don't have any gummies except for those awful neon gummy worms.
@code.monkey: it has nothing to do with quality. It has to do with failed potential.
If you promise garbage, and deliver garbage, people are happy.
If you promise great, but only deliver good, people hate you. That's why the Zune is reviled.

@KSPRAYDAD: Why is it odd? People namedop iPod all the time. Besides... Zune isn't just an MP3 player, it's a way of life. *arcane hand gestures signifying street struggle and brand loyalty here*

@KSPRAYDAD:
Why is it odd? People say "ipod" all the time don't they? I never see someone say my "mp3 player" or "DAP" when they have an iPod. Unlike most other players, the iPod and Zune have an actual name and it's simply easier to say that than saying MP3 player.

@code.monkey: I don't think it is a matter of adequacy...it is just ODD to name drop 'Zune' instead of just saying PMP or MP3 Player or the like.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with a Zune.
Oh, and @vid3oman64: good lord, they are perfectly adequate music players.

Point not made.
Foreign travel sucks for sure. I feel your pain. Flying to England and back puts a toll on the body, Germany is another couple hours past that!

Gummis and Beer? Did you just leave your clothes at the place or did you trade some guy clothes for snacks?

Fine, fine, I've never had a Zune, so I won't say anything about a product I've never had.
But I will go by what I've heard. Booyah!

I LOVE my pink Zune! At first I picked it up 'cause I found one especially cheap but have come to really appreciate the easy to use interface. Of course, I've had it well over a year and have never run into anyone else with their wireless on. Probably never will...

I think when the Zune gets 120GB later this year, I'll get one.

Zune's are awesome. They're reliable, sexy to look at, and are constantly improving through firmware updates...
Wait a minute, I thought only Sony products fit that description. :P
Anyway, I love my Zune, and use it more often than I do my DS or PSP. I'm just waiting for it to get XNA support.

@LittleBigPlaneteer: And people say you're a Sony fanboy. :p
You won't regret getting a Zune. You'll just be the odd man out. (I've had mine almost a year, and have yet to meet another person with one.)

@armless-phelan: I just nab the Sansa clip 'cause it's tiny and cheap and lasts long and is perfect for running.
And I don't have much music.

I fucking new it! Those gummi bears are how germany plans on taking over the world (again)! Every exchange student I've ever met has given my family those gummi bears and mud thick coffee as a gift.

@Mike Fahey: Ummm... Mike?
You do know that Haribo also releases some/most of those Gummis here in the states too, right?
Granted, if you brought the more outrageous bags of Gummis, then it's all the more understandable

Where's McWhertor off to? For more videogame coverage or is he looking to get some German action?
And by German action I mean more sausages and beer. You silly perverts!

@Eville1 says SKUse me a sec.: ...lived in Holland when I was a kid, got the Haribo gummy bears all the time. My dad used to go TDY to Germany and bring back giant bags of them. Now that we can get them in the states? I'm in heaven. I go through a couple of bags of them after every stop off at the grocery store.
I'll stay out of the Zune comments...other than my Zune ID: FatalisticDread.

I always mention my Zune not because of a deep seated love for Microsoft, but because Crecente is constantly ribbing me about getting a Zune instead of an iPod touch or something. Telling me how cool his games are, etc. He's so mean.
