Video Games Blamed in Fiery Motorcycle Crash
Posted by Owen Good at 2:00 AM on August 25, 2008
Some idiot in Utah wrecked his so-called "bullet bike" into an SUV carrying a family of four. Everyone's alive, including the no-shirt, no-helmet cyclist, but of course vidja games are the cause. I swear, there must be a check-block for it on police investigation forms:
As for motive, Savino told troopers this was his own video game adventure. "I don't know whether he was trying to act out a scene in a video game or what he was trying to do, but he said it always worked for him in video games", Roden said.
OK, gang, so what exactly was he trying to emulate? And since this dumbass seems hellbent on removing himself from the gene pool, what's the next thing he should try?

Hmmm, Im leaning towards Super Sprint. Not sure where the bike comes into it though. Must be Road Rash. I always knew that game was pure evil. Now wheres me bat, time to crack some crash helmets.

Meh, I can't give him much grief.
I'm one of those impressionable gamers as well.
I hate to admit it, but I had so much fun playing nintendogs that I purchased a real puppy.
Smite me now, fellow gamers! For I have fallen from virtual grace.

You guys are taking this way too seriously. For all we know he said it as an off-hand joke in passing. The police officer says he has no clue what the guy's motive was, which means the guy wasn't exactly adamantly blaming video games, and it also means the -police- aren't blaming video games. Heck, even the news media aren't blaming the video games - it only mentions them in passing at the end. The only people getting worked up about video games are us.

Since it is, after all, STILL his fault, I recommend he plays one of the more popular hardcore games for people of his intelligence quotient: "Don't Drop the Soap: County Edition."
It's kinda like Resident Evil 3, but instead of Nemesis stalking you, you have Bubba.

I say he emlute Burnout's crash course to see how much damage he can cause, to get the highest score possible. Oh, and make sure to tell him to hit the left signal to guide his vehicle into more traffic, to rack up on more bonus points. He'll make the daily highlights even more quicker.

For his next "video game" stunt, he should pull out a gun and shoot himself in the head. When the police look in his pockets, they'll find a note stating "I was trying to unleash my Persona. Tell me if I did it."

Probably Road Rash since he was on a motorcycle with no clothes on.
Seriously though, his parents failed him if he couldn't figure out the difference between a fictional account in a videogame versus reality. Let this be a lesson to any parent who exposes their children to videogames, make sure they know that what they see on the screen is not always reality...
...and make sure they turn off those 24 hour new channels also, might have similar effects.

Why don't people try to emulate fighting terrorists or something that you do in games that could actually beneficial. Why is it always stealing shit or wrecking your car... Hell, I try to save the universe from imploding everyday... We'll I would try if I could find my magnetic field nullifier.

Let's say, for just a second, that he was genuinely trying to replicate something from a video game. In this country, we have absolutely got to learn about personal accountability. Since the beginning of time, people who have been guilty of idiocy have known how to point somewhere else and try to place blame where it doesn't belong, but only in this country of ours do people ever fail to call bullshit on these people. It's a matter of "you did something stupid, and I don't care why you did it, you're an idiot and you're going to jail."
I could jump on a skateboard, put a mask on, and fly down the streets of Dayton hitting people in the head with nunchaku and sai, and when the police nailed me, I could say "it's not my fault, the ninja turtles made it look so appealing!" but no one would take me seriously. Somehow, it's not the same with video games.

Man, I really wonder if he was being serious. Is it really possible for someone to be that impressionable? Even if he isn't, telling the turth would only make him look less stupid. You'd have to be pretty dumb to ride a motorcycle with no helmet or shirt on, vidja games or not.

I pride myself on my ability to catch my own sticky grenades in Halo 3. It's harder than it looks.

@TheAngryHeretic: I believe that is Persona?
Anyways, what a load of bull! The cyclist should be tea-bagged for thinking if you can do it in a video game it must be teh realz! <;O

Well, I WAS splitting lanes at 115 MPH in GTA IV last night- then I ran HEADLONG INTO AN ARMORED CAR. Helmet or not- I was dead. D. E. D. Dead. Road Rash? Yeah that gets you killed to- so it seems to me that if he was emulating a VG he was trying to commit suicide.
/Couldn't be ExciteBike- that's on a dirt course. :)

For his next trick, I'd like to see him to attempt to summon a Persona ala Persona 3 (after all shooting yourself in the head always worked out nicely in game).
