Vigilante 8 Arcade Finally Submitted To XBLA
Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 7:20 AM on August 13, 2008
It has been a long time coming, but Vigilante 8 Arcade is finally rumbling its way towards Xbox Live Arcade. After several months of developmental false starts, Isopod Labs have confirmed that they have sent what they hope is the final release version to Microsoft.
Microsoft's XBLA testing crew will now pore over the release code to ensure it is fit to grace the virtual shelves — I like to imagine that this bit takes place in a proper mad science lab with a Van der Graaf generator and loads of curly glass tubes.
Last we heard, Vigilante 8 Arcade was going to feature gameplay from both the original Nineties classic and the sequel, Second Offence, with a Noughties graphical makeover and plenty of single and multi-player options.
V8 Arcade in final submission! [V8 Arcade via Xbox 360 Fanboy]

@Grumpz®:
Yeah when i heard about xbla banjo games thats the first thing i thought. We know were not going to get donkey kong country's (sheds tear) but hopefuly we can get blast corpse on xbla.
Im surprised theres still no bust a move too...would love a classic version on xbla/psn (bust a move 2 or 4, saturn/ps1 versions). Unless they expect to keep churning the same game out on disc at full price with each console :P Fantavision on psn would be awesome too.

i remember playing this game to death with my buddies nearly 10 years ago. we loved it so much- but we all realized after a few months that it was, in fact: inferior (excepting the fantastic-at-the-time graphics!) to our old favorite: Twisted Metal 2. which lead to another 4 month binge of Twisted Metal 2 in my parents' living room :)
would still love to see this on PSN someday, and hopefully they'll add online play!

I'm suddenly feeling nostalgic over the PSX releases of V8 and its sequel. Man... I miss those games. I might go ahead and re-purchase them off of Amazon or something.

Live + Revamped Vigilante 8? I can now die a happy man. Hell I'd die happy if I'd ironically kicked the bucket in a car crash.

@The bigger the lie, the more they beleive!:
It'll probably show up on PSN one day. Not the version that XBLA is getting since they're revamping it and adding multiplayer. PSN will likely get the original. There's many games that are much higher on the priority list though as far as PS1 classics go.

Oh man I loved this game back in the day. The best Twisted Metal ripoff ever! I really really really try to never buy XBLA games but this is a true PS1 classic. Why the hell isn't going to PSN?

this is a guaranteed purchase for me. This game was so much better and prettier than Twisted Metal(PS1). I played the N64 version with resolution boost from the expansion pack and was floored by the frame rate, colors, and destructible environments. With live multiplayer this game will be awesome.

i definitely preferred twisted metal, but vigilante 8 filled a void, and provided a more realistic car-combat experience that was really awesome back in the day.
i wont lie, my PSN is definitely jealous of the the XBLA getting this game. damn!

I wonder how many points it will cost.
The fact that it's online w/ 8 players is pretty cool, but again w/ so many other games out it can't find #1 priority in occupying my game time. So it will have to be priced reasonably.

Man alive! I didn't know anything about this coming to arcade!
Back in the day, when "Car Combat" was an actual genre, Vigilante 8 came in 2nd only to Twisted Metal 2...but it was still an amazing game even with that.
Day 1 purchase, indeed.

@Foxstar Sixtail: Technically it's a console-ization spin-off of the franchise. Simplified controls, focus on instant action, and no storyline to speak of. The follow-up to I'76 was the Nitro Pack, which contained some prequel-type story missions, and the proper sequel was Interstate '82, which was a fairly horrific aborted mess. The less said there the better...
@Crippl3: I recently tried reinstalling I'76, patched fully, but it does *not* play well with current PCs. Not sure why, but everything from the menu to the vehicle animation was messed up. Still, worth a shot.
@Anemone: My question is "why would you put guns on cars?"
I'm guessing Miyamoto never heard the sweet, distinctive grind of tires on gravelly asphalt, pulling out of a parking lot with Bullmark's patented funk playing in the background. But that's just a guess.
