What's The Biggest-Selling Game In Europe This Year?
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 9:30 PM on August 12, 2008
Fans of our British sales charts will have some knowledge of the selling power of the Brain Training games, but really, they've only got part of the picture. They don't know how well it's been selling on the continent, and on the continent, it's been selling like hotcakes hot crepes. According to chart trackers GfK, over the first six months of 2008, the original Brain Training was the top-selling game in Switzerland, Belgium and The Netherlands. Germany's top-selling game over the same period was the sequel, More Brain Training. Spain's #1 was Brain Training, while it's #2 was...More Brain Training. Just so you know, the first Brain Training was released over two years ago, while in Europe, even the sequel's been out for over a year. Egads.

We'll all become drones and Europe will be renamed "Japan 2" from 2011 on.
They'll build EuroTokyo in place of London and Italy'll become a huge holiday resort. Also, they'll convert France's vineyard to rice fields (for sake).
They'll also destroy Holland for being immoral and sinful.

I wonder how much of its success is down to the Sudoku part. It's hugely popular here.

@Vidunder: At least we wouldn't have to wait several months for our games then and we could get em for half the price :D

Well, the problem with "Europe" is that it's a far more difficult market to gauge. Really, unless we can get country-by-country tallies, talking about the biggest selling game in "Europe" is pointless, since the region is a hell of a lot more diverse than North America or Japan.

Well at least it's not just the UK then... Unfortuantly there is even a copy of it in the house...

Doesn't surprise me. The way they advertise it on TV (Seriously, the Brain Training ads never stop!) and the way the UK and other European countries seem to be becoming the ultimate casual gaming market, I would of been kind of surprised if it wasn't.

It's always on front display at every store I go to, and HMV's have it in the window display all the time.

Further proof of just how big the "casual" gamer market is, and a good example of Nintendo's target audience.
Nintendo said they are no longer competing against Sony and MS in the "bloody red oceans", but are in their own little "Blue Ocean". And since they are not competing with the other guys, they just keep on winning.

@coalhalo:
Well, you've kind of simplified it; I don't think it's that simple.
On the surface, to us gaming enthusiasts, it may look like "hey Nintendo is advertising the casual crap mostly so they are not competing with Sony or MS", but from most consumer's point of view there is no hardcore/casual. No real divide between any of the games or systems. There's simply the cheapest (Wii), the mid-priced (360), and the most expensive (technically the PS3). So to the consumers who Nintendo has so skillfully catered to, they are giving away their money to Nintendo rather than MS or Sony. So they are in fact competing.

Does this count for all the times the games been sold unknowingly as a pack-in?? becaue me and my sister both bought new ds lites in the past month, and we both got a new copy of brain training in the box of the ds lite.. there wasnt any stickers to indicate this occurance,, so are nintendo just packing these in to get the sales figures??

This guy reminds me of the MCP from Tron.
Maybe its nefarious plan to propagate itself throughout Europe before turning on the human masters is coming to fruition...
