Wii Breaks One Million Mark In Canada
Posted by Mike Fahey at 1:20 AM on August 28, 2008
Canada may have a lot of real estate, but most of the people are gathered down in the Southern section of the country for fear of the vicious ice spiders that rampage through the Northern tundra. It's most likely because of this that such a large country is only now surpassing the one million Wii sold milestone, with just under 1,060,000 units sold as of the end of July, according to the NPD. Thus continues Nintendo's domination of the Great White North (and the world as a whole), with the PlayStation 3 selling 520,000 and Xbox 360 sales totaling 870,000 units despite a year head start on the competition.
There's still time to catch up, however. The NPD also reports that Canadian video game sales are 54% to nearly $US 920 million over last year, only a fraction of which can be directly attributed to the ice spiders' strange fascination with Wii Sports Tennis.

I left the warmth of my igloo and crossed the arctic tundra to get a Wii myself. I encountered a wild moose, but thankfully avoided the ice spiders. It was worth it.

@ReadNLearn:
You folks have horses up North? Here in Ontario, we are limited to dog sleds during winters. These things break down so easily and it's so damn hard to find replacement limbs for them. Problems have gotten worse after I bought these consoles. It's becoming harder and harder to get enough dogs to generate enough power for my igloo.

Ice spiders are a menace. If we had a Colert figure in Canada, they'd be Number 1 on the Threat Down (equivalent) every time.

@Ryumeka: Yeah, they'll probably report about Wii being unsuccessful and not breaking records right about the time they're reporting that 'intelligent design' has turned out to be true, global warming isn't happening, and gravity was only a theory. Whoops! I'm suddenly floating through the air!
Or not.

It's really easy to get a Wii in Canada. If someone else is about to get the last one, just use your maple syrup to root them, and then trample them with a moose.
This also works in MMOs. Replace "maple syrup" with "class skills" and "moose" with "zerg"

Yep, the typical Canada tundra stereotype (btw I am Canadian). Oh but wait in next couple of decades that might all change due to global warming and climate change, then Canada might not be so arctic like. Meantime I keep warm by the warmth given out by my wii, ps3, and xbox360.
PS. Summers are bad too. The mosquitoes here in Manitoba grow as big as large rats XD

Mostly we just don't talk about the Ice Spiders; they rarely come down to Ontario, preferring to feast on New Brunswickers instead.
Usually we just ignore them in hopes that one day, our fallen hero, Jean Chretien, will return to slay them once and for all.
Long live Chretien... O' Captain, My Captain.

My only question is, how do they plug the Wii into their igloo? Plus I think Nintendo should make games specific to Canada featuring penguins and Polar Bears, and also localize said games by including pictures of eskimos and the word "Eh" at the end of every sentence.

Ok first off Eskimos are a myth like the Easter Bunny , Santa , and Jesus. and as for the penguins they only reside in zoo's like foolish American tourists who beleive we Canadians are clean freaks and nice. Our main source of energy is based on a cold fusion peanut butter potato hybrid, you would also need a paper plate and a coathanger and a small plutonium 239 rod... good luck gettin the paper plate losers......
Oh yes one more thing "EH" if you onhly knew what it really meant EH! it's not like its a secret code word or anything. really . its not like we have all gone through extensive plastic surgery to look like you humans for nothing ....... did i say humans I meant Americans yes thats it Americans.........

33.4 million Canadians (roughly), average of 2.5 people per household equals 13.36 million households. With 1 million Wii sold, that is roughly one Wii for every 13.36 homes.
So close 7.5% of homes have a Wii.
