Wii Gets Fancy New Coloured Straps

Hey, remember that rumour about coloured Wii straps a few weeks back? Not even close to being a rumour. It's total fact. Nintendo Japan will be releasing the straps in September for ¥300 ($US 2.75) each, or you could get the whole set of four for ¥1,000 ($US 9.15). They'll be available in blue, green, pink and white. So, yeah. Coloured Wii straps. Excited?

finally nintendo are paying attention to the hardcore gamer, the gamer that was with nintendo from the beginning this is what weve all been asking for

So... can we assume that Nintendo is back to "I'm-the-best-and-everything-or-everybody-else-sucks-so-give-me-your-money" now? Like the N64 era?
They could be focusing on the Wii hardrive... or improving the online... or making a new and innovative IP.. but no: They're making colored Wii Straps.

@Lord Thayer: Actually, the straps will help you tell all of your white controllers apart from one another. So, you KNOW which one has the kinda effed up D-Pad that you usually give your sort of friend to use when he comes over to play.

I've never understood the need to buy different colors of controllers to controller attachments. that don't even deliver a different design. Always seemed weird, unless you find a color you just must have.
Now, having said that, I fully endorse the production of differently designed items, even handhelds and consoles. For instance, if I had the money, I would have purchases that God of War PSP in a heart beat, just for the Deep Red PSP with the Kratos on its back!
Man... I need a job... one more year :( !

As for the straps, it DOES make it easier to identify controllers. Slap the favorite colored strap on your favorite Wii-mote then waggle to your hearts content. Just make sure to stay clear of things such as walls, ceiling fans, and other people.

"They're not gonna like it at first but when they see it they'll eventually come around." Like how we thought we weren't gonna use the name Wii we wanted our "Revolution" if you could remember it's code name back then >_>.

This is something my girlfriend would totally buy if we had a Wii. Then I'd be stuck with a damn pink Wii strap just like I'm stuck with a pink digital camera.

Although that green one is tempting, it's too pastel.
Couldn't they've invested this into colored Wii-Remotes (I'd be "that guy" and say Wii's, too, but I already have a Wii, so what's the point? I couldn't really move my VC's over could I?) I mean, a nice black or dark green wiimote would be keen in my book.

I dont really care because why buying something just for the looks? Its like buying a controller just because its a different color, even if you already have more than enough controllers to play with other 3 players. Simply kind of useless unless you already broke your strap.

I'm keen. I currently have a Hello Kitty sticker on the back of my favourite remote. Having coloured straps would just take that principle one step further. It would be even better when friends bring their remotes over, as mine would be the ones with the fancy pastel straps. I think I'll pick up blue and pink. It will please the missus, and totally aggravate my uber-macho friends when I force the pink strap upon them. >:3

Okay I'm kidding, I don't use the straps anyway (annoyed me in mario kart so I took it off). But it would actually be slightly useful to be able to identify different remotes.
Colours are great, really like the pastels. I'd have green probably although pink is also nice.
so in summary, um sure nice colours, now release coloured controllers. Or maybe wait until motionplus can be integrated then do coloured ones then?

huh? colored Straps? Nintendo? you can't be this ignorant. Colored Straps.
We asked for colored consoles at launch and you didn't deliver.
We asked for a harddrive since the entire world knew that 512MBs of internal storage is ridiculous to the point of being offensive but you ignored us and still haven't delivered.
You lied and said the only friend code we'd need would be the one tied to our console but smacked us with game specific friend codes anyway.
You still haven't released the firmware update that allows faster message transfer and faster registration of these god-awful friend codes.
We still don't have an active system that tells us when our friends are online or what game they're playing on Wii.
We still have no active way to invite our friends to games (with the exception of mario kart) from the Wii front end.
We still don't have voice chat support and the library overall is still weaksauce.
We still don't have Mother3 on WiiWare or VC
We still don't have a Super Metroid 2.5D remake (sans Bionic Commando:RA) for Wiiware or at retail
We still don't have that $20 Metroid Prime remake with Wiimote controls.
But you're giving us colored straps...

As a parent of two kids.. I love this idea... I originally drew a colored band on the nunchuck cords (blue, green, red). I also had the controllers in colored wraps (that matched the nunchuck cords) however as time passed we got one of those charging stations and had to loose the wraps (because they couldn't charge while wrapped) and the colors faded (to blue, blue, pink -- yes, green faded to blue). Each person was responsible for their controllers... if they are left out, broken, missing, etc... the color easily told me who was responsible. Granted the straps could be moved around fairly easily, but it would at least help contain the whole "he has my controller" issue. That being said... I would have rather had colored controllers... but I'm also not keen on buying new controllers now that I already have the 3 I need.

Please, everyone, note that Nintendo is not, in fact, calling this their major Fall tentpole release. It's a minor thing that's kind of handy. There are still manufacturing issues meeting the demand that there is and this at least is some solution for differentiation while we wait for colored plastic.
