Pre-order Prince Of Persia To Get Limited Edition Upgrade
Posted by Stuart Houghton at 6:40 PM on September 2, 2008
Anyone eager enough to play the new Prince Of Persia game that they are willing to pre-order it will receive a surprise upgrade, Ubisoft have announced.
Through the magic of pre-release publicity, Ubisoft can turn your plain old regular Prince Of Persia game into a sparkly new Limited Edition Prince Of Persia pack.
All the usual Limited Edition boxes are ticked - Art Book, Strategy Guide, 'Collectible Packaging' (exactly who these collectors are is never adequately explained — do write in if you know someone who covets this kind of thing) and, of course, a soundtrack CD.
The Limited edition is only available via preorder so, if you were going to buy it anyway, why not snag yourself an Art Book?

@RaptureScientist: Yes, he is a retard because corporate did not send his store the pub games bonuses yet, because pre-order bonuses actually do ship closer to the release date of their accompanying game. ¬_¬
Anyways, companies are starting to do this more apparently. I don't know if anyone noticed, but all Fable 2 preorders (through GameStop/EB Games anyway) were upgraded to limited edition versions at no extra cost. This sounds like the same deal with Prince of Persia.

So all that stuff is free? Sure, I'll pre-order it.

Why all that stuffs had to be digital. If it just would come in book... That's not suficient as an incentive, if you look for all those superb games that are showing up, just as little big planet.

This is how limited editions should be -- not more expensive, just for the people who pre-order. Pre-ordering as it stands now helps retailers and publishers a lot more than gamers; this makes it worthwhile to reserve.

@Jawmuncher:
That's pretty much all it is is a different box art. Again, I'm glad it's free and all as a pre-order but don't think Ubisoft is doing something great here. This appears to be a crappy limited edition that no one should spend an extra 10 or so dollars for after the game is available.

I think Ubisoft is really doing a great job into fooling the consumers here. I mean, this isn't a limited edition. This is a regular edition with a pre-order bonus. If you go to Gamestop you'll find plenty of games up for pre-order that come with the same types of things (digital art book, mini strategy guide, etc..). Putting this under the veil of "collector's edition upgrade" somehow makes this different to most people though? Great psychological move by Ubisoft if I do say so myself.

@LittleBigPlaneteer:
Well I'd take a free upgrade just for the packaging if it's cool enough. If it's just a new box art then pass.

You should probably mention the fact that the art book is digital, and the strategy guide is "mini". It's nice that it's a free upgrade, but this certainly isn't worth the extra money to begin with. I mean a digtial art book? Yeah, no thanks

Too bad pre-order bonuses are hit and miss in Canada
Me walking into an EB games: Hey do you have the Fable 2 Pub games preorder bonus?
EB retard: We get pre order stuff for Fable 2 closer to the game's release date because that's when they're shipped to us.
Same retard didn't even know what the MGS4 PS3 bundle was.

It seems like Pre-ordering bonuses is becoming the new trend for games. First it was limited editions, every game was doing it (and still are,) now they must have found that giving extras to those who pre-order is increasing sales. Fable II pub games, lots of different goodies for LBP, and now this.
I really don't care for limited edition games. I haven't come across a single game that offered cool enough content to merit spending more cash, but pre-ordering bonuses are OK in my book. You don't have to pay extra, and you get more goodies, can't really complain about that.

I've found myself susceptible to a Limited Edition's prowess. If there's a game I'm going to buy and a LE available for it then I feel compelled to get that version.

I first thought that the box would be blue (or at least the logo) This looks like the old sand-style used in the Sands of Time Trilogy
BTW, a music video using that trilogy:

Resistance 2 will be my third LE game this gen. First was Gears, then was MGS4. The new POP might be my fourth.

Considering how quickly a game loses its purchased value, I'm guessing the true collectors of all these limited editions tend to be the local landfill. I think the real question is projected value for yourself (these things will never go up unless it's some weird controversial bug - a la hot coffee or some exploit in it to run third party code on the machine) but considering most games are forgotten in three years, its best to pick these things up in the used market.

GameStop doesn't mention anything on the website. Tomorrow while I'm on lunch I'll take a look over there. If they're doing it I guess I'll pre order it.

So let me get this straight you preorder the $60.00 game and get the limited edition for $60.00?
If that's the case awesome... if not then uh why?

@Jezner: I tend to display some of the nicer collectors edition boxes I have in my room. These things are NEVER worth anything except for that.

@LittleBigPlaneteer: Hey, it's a free upgrade, what do you expect, right? Just take it for what it is, and accept it. Can't really complain with extra stuff.

But, this had damn well better be available in Canada...

@LittleBigPlaneteer: This is why I'd hate to work in the game industry. A company does something extra for FREE for the people who really are into their game and people still find a way to complain about it. I think this is why some dev's just give up an you end up with a game like Spider-man 3. This has got to be one of the most jaded fan groups around.

So is this a $60.00 LE then? or it just "upgrades" you to LE and you still gotta pay $70-$90 depending on what they decide?

He's right though. Ubisoft is doing this just to fool people who won't read the fine print into thinking they are getting more than they actually are.

I have to agree with LittleBigPlaneteer. Its not a real limited edition. Look whats in the Fable 2 or Gears 2 LE boxes. Or the Resistance 2 LE that just got shown. From Ubisoft's point of view its a cover art swap and some downloads on the PoP website.

Yep no real limited edition, everything's digital and just put into another disc.
". An exclusive look at the making of Prince of Persia
. A Prima® digital mini-strategy guide full of developer's secrets to help players master the year's best action-adventure game
. A digital art book that chronicles the game's journey from concept to winner of Best Artistic Design at E3 2008 . The original soundtrack scored by master composer Inon Zur
. And much more.
"
I call screw you Ubisoft, the art book should be a BOOK, A REAL BOOK for it to be even considered an L.E. for me. Also, the soundtrack? I hope they don't give you a code to download them as mp3s in their site. I'll wait for the COLLECTOR'S EDITION where I can get a prince figure or something.

If they could just label this "ONLY IN THE US", or something.
Looking at Assassin's Creed, there's really no telling what any of us will get in the end.
You guys got a tinbox of trinkets, while we, in EU, got that huge-ass figurine. Had to sell that thing to make space, but hey, I recently bought the much superior PC version instead...

I was going to buy the game on or close at launch anyway, so this just makes it sweeter for me. Now, if some retailer would actually guarantee this, I would preorder right away. There is no information about this deal anywhere, so I'll play the wait and see game.

I'm not sure why people are whining about this being a "true" limited edition thing. Aren't limited editions just supposed to be, uh, limited?
If it's free, then why are you complaining...?
