Lumines Goes Supernova On PSN
Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:40 AM on September 4, 2008
I'll say, it's about damn time Q-Entertainment's music-puzzle fusion title made it to the PlayStation 3! Lumines Supernova is an all-new installment of the game that has already graced the PSP and Xbox Live Arcade, and by all-new I mean mostly the same with a few new modes and skins! Along with the previously seen Skin Edit, Time Attack, and Puzzle Modes, Supernova also will also feature Dig Down Mode, which challenges you to reach the bottom of an already filled playfield, and Sequencer Mode, which allows players to create their own music using five different tracks with over 20 different sound loops each. The game is due out this spring, with the price yet to be determined.
The ultimate fusion of puzzle, lights and music arrives on the PLAYSTATION®Network this Fall
Indulge in the fusion of puzzle, lights and music! The latest installment to the blockbuster franchise from Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Q Entertainment comes packed with brand new skins and new modes, exclusive to the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.
Lumines Supernova combines puzzles, block-dropping beats and video entertainment to create an addictively-fun gameplay experience that will keep you playing day after day. The game offers 40 skins in the Challenge Mode alone, with several brand new skins keeping the Lumines experience fresh. Choose from several different single player modes, battle it out with a friend or create your own background music in the all-new Sequencer Mode.
LUMINES SUPERNOVA - GAME FEATURES / MODES:
* Skins, skins and more new skins: Enjoy unlimited gameplay and unlock up to 40 stylish skins in Challenge Mode, including brand new skins
* All-new Dig Down Mode: Using the falling blocks, erase squares from a playfield already filled with blocks as you dig down to the bottom. Show off your digging skills as your completion time is ranked based on clearing 20 consecutive stages
* All-new Sequencer Mode: Create your own background music using the sound loops provided in the "Sound Bank" - drums, bass, synthesiser 1, synthesiser 2 and effects each come with 20 different loops
* Skin Edit Mode: Customise your Lumines experience by creating your own playlist with your favourite skins
* Time Attack Mode: Test your skills and see how many blocks you can erase in a given amount of time and compete with your own record
* Puzzle / Mission Mode: Act quickly with the falling blocks to create shapes/designs and clear the playing field in just a few moves (100 puzzles and 50 missions)

I'd rather have them release Lumines for psp on psn, but this is nice too. How is the 2 player in this game? That would be the only reason I'd buy the console version.

Now I feel like an even bigger ass for getting the XBL verison. The PS3's dpad alone makes this a better verison.

That Heavenly Star track got stuck in my head forever after playing through No More Heroes. I didn't realize this song was in Lumines II.

That's cool, I'll stick to my Lumines for the PSP, these games play and feel better on portables anyways.

im probably alone on this, but Lumines 1 kicks Lumines's 2 ass big time. in part 1 the stages were not that big of a distraction. in part 2 the videos were out of place for a game that was already beautiful. i hope lumines supernova harkens the brilliance of part 1. if not , its a no go for me.

@jspeed04: Hah, I doubt they would add remote play in since that would compete with their two psp lumines games.

About fucking time! I was just talking to my girlfriend about how awesome it would be to have Lumines on the PS3. Now it's here. Throw in remote play for the PSP and I'm sold.

As someone who was tricked into buying Lumines Live, I won't be getting this. PS3 gamers, don't be surprise when your "new" game is a chopped down port of Lumines II.

The press release lies!
Sequencer Mode was actually part of Lumines II on PSP >>
Still, this is awesome news. I mean, as long as they don't charge 15$ for it and release it with like, 8 skins. Yes, I'm looking at you Lumines Live...

No! Why did you mention Heavenly Star? I got it out of my head after Lumines 2, then No More Heroes... It's gonna take me another 3 months of humming to do it again.
It's a good thing I like the song.

Is it sad this is my favorite game of this generation?
It's literally the only thing that made me sad I sold my 360, and probably the only thing that will keep my PS3 from strictly being a blu-ray player for the time being.
GET ON IT, Q!
Oh, and please stick to original/instrumental music...no Madonna videos or any of that nonsense in the background.

No custom soundtracks, no online multiplayer, no deal. I'd rather have Meteos on PSN with custom soundtracks and online play. Q can't suck this bad as to release ANOTHER stripped down version of Lumines.
@terminalboredom: exactly. I ran to Gamestop to take LuminesII back for trade in credit. Whoever thought contemporary music and hip flop was good in Lumines blew it big time. Once I hit Holla Back Girl that was it for me. Like I said before, Q can't suck this bad...can they? Why the hell couldn't we get a non-disney Meteos2 with online support on DS?
That tears it! Q sucks...

@Striderhayasa - Phillyyakk on PSN and Live.:
Yeah, I knew better than to even touch Lumines 2 once I saw "real" music was being incorporated.
How would one do Meteos without a DS though?
I guess you could flick the analog stick, but it wouldn't be the same.
Seriously though, I will KILL KILL KILL for both these games on the PSN.

Finally, Q! Entertainment will get to rape another demographic by releasing half of a game, and then charging you to have them mail the rest of it to you, bit by bloody bit, through the interwebs. Ah, capitalism!
