Some New Halo 3 Achievements Unveiled

Luke Smith over at Bungie lays out some of the new achievements coming to Halo 3 when the next patch and Assembly map hits.
Smith points out that the included list of achievements aren't all of the new ones coming with Title Update 2.
As folks have seen, these aren't the only achievements we're adding. But without proper context, there's not a whole lot else we're going to say. Stay tuned.
The update may slip as well, Smith points out, to closer to the Halo 3 one year anniversary. Now for those achievements which can be earned via the Legendary Maps and Halo 3 Campaign:
* Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch (0 points) - Get to the rank of Lieutenant in any playlist in the new EXP progression system.
* Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7 (0 points) - Enter into any ranked or social playlist with 7 EXP on the 7th of the month.
* Vidmaster Challenge: Annual (0 points) - After 9/25/08, complete Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.
* Double Double (25 points) - On a Legendary map, get two Double Kills during any ranked or social match.
* Poor Yorick (25 points) - On a Legendary map, get 3 Oddball melee kills during any ranked or social match.
* Came...From...Behind (50 points) - On a Legendary map, get 3 assassinations during any ranked or social match.
* Defend This (50 points) - On a Legendary map, get a flag melee kill during any ranked or social match.
* Flag Dropped (25 points) - On a Legendary map, get 2 flag carrier kills during any ranked or social match.
* Road Rage (25 points) - On a Legendary map, get 5 Warthog chaingun kills during any ranked or social match.
* Look Both Ways (50 points) - On a Legendary map, get a Splatter Spree during any ranked or social match.

I cared about the achievements when halo3 first came out, then I realized it just wasn't fun getting em. Much better gaming feats to spend my time on, like getting good at the game. Anyone with enough time and determination can earn all the achievements, but that doesn't equate to skill. Most the people concerned with em are the same jerks cheating/being cheep/hiding under ramps when they get up a kill to win. It becomes about stats, and not good skillful matches. oh well, I digress. I will step off my soap box now.

@54r93: You still keep the same overall exp. Then for each playlist there is a new exp count. If you would actually read the update it would tell you all of this.

Halo 3 is easily one of the best games of all time.
I have been playing this game nonstop since release except for the one month hiatus i took to play through COD4 (not that it took me a month..it took me 2 days) but i mean playing online and all.
since then i have only had minor stints with other games, GTA4, Orange Box, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, but i Always come back to Halo 3
these new achievements are only going to add to my excitement.
At my college we play different games on different nights, but Fridays are always Halo 3, we party up and play from about 9PM to 1 or 2 AM, and it feels like nothing

Atleast it's mostly multiplayer achievements, I can't stay awake for the campaign unfortunatly. :P

People obviously didn't read the article. "But, but, it is impossible to get the first two achievements." I will provide a direct quote from the article:
"* Playlist Ratings are the playlist-level decoupling of Trueskill values (the in-game number next to your name) from Experience (the icon next to your name).
* You will now have a separate military rating (based purely on EXP) in each playlist. When TU2 goes live, everyone will begin at 0 EXP. This means that being a General in a Playlist is based on how many games you've won in the Playlist, not based on the Trueskill number next to your name.
* Your Trueskill values have not been reset. If someone checks your Service Record they will still see your Highest Skill."

Does this mean every game with DLC can have extra achievement points, or just ones from Microsoft?
This move might be a tad upsetting to 3rd party developers who have been left out of this loop thus far.
Microsoft should have launched this... program using a multiplat game to prove their dedication to 3rd party developers.

I'm stil la bit pissed that they're basically using team doubles and big team as DLC only playlists now. Sure i have all the maps. My friends don't though - so no more big team for me.
Surely bungie shoudl be looking to ADD stuff to their game, not take it away. Especially with Far cry 2 and gears 2 and every other big ass game coming up this holiday season.

@sixonedoesitall: Every game with DLC can have extra achievements. Typically only 250 extra but this can change.
More kudos to Bungie and MS for continuing to support Halo3. When you compare it to the joke of support that Activision/IW have done on CoD4 (patching has been hit & miss, 1 mediocre map pack, poor and delayed playlist adjustments etc). CoD4 is a great game but i really get the feeling that Activision doesn't want to support it much with world at war coming out soon.

I like that they include social rounds. The old ranked FFA achievements will probably stay locked for me forever.
@kicking222: Several other games have gotten additional achievement points with DLC, including Crackdown. What say you to THAT, good sir?!

Is it just me, or are some of those ridiculously simple? 50 points for a flag melee kill? 25 points for two double kills in a match? 50 points for three assassinations? (Just set the game type to melee only, and damn near everyone in the game will get this one.) Regardless of why MS is letting them throw more Achievements into the game in the first place (answer: because it's Halo, this is pretty much just giving away points.

Cool that they are continuing to support the game so much, but I'm still waiting for the "not incredibly boring" patch. Seriously, I got sick of this game 2 weeks after release.

@NecronomiconUK: Thanks for clearing that up, alright then. Achievements is a fun system :) unlockable awards is even better (hey bungie, new armor would make me turn my 360 back on after my 8 month long xbox 360 fast!) (anything, but blue flaming head pieces or shoulders for either a cost, or unlockable by getting all the achievements including DLC ones, or unlockable by downloading all Halo 3 related DLC... Money money and I would pay it!)

What happened to the rumored new skull achievements?
Legendary Map Pack: Ghost Town, Avalanche and Blackout. Does this include Cold Storage?
Still no word on the release date for the Mythic Map Pack? Assembly (Purple Reign,) Orbital (Space Camp,) and some other not-yet-spoken-of map.

Popular games get lots of haters claiming the game is boring and/or overrated. See: MGS4. I don't even read many news articles regarding that game since I haven't played it yet and I'm not a big fan of the series, but it seems like every time someone whispers the name "MGS4" at least one hater steps forward to bash the abundant cutscenes. I'm sure fans of MGS must be as tired of its haters as I am of Halo haters. It's not a game-specific phenomenon. Trolls will be trolls. Hell, even GTA IV seems to have developed a thriving hater community, and it's multiplatform!

I wonder if these achievements count towards unlocking the 1000/1000 armor. I already have it, and I think the people have put in the effort to get the armor won't much appreciate the armor suddenly becoming ridiculously easy to unlock with these undeniably easy achievements.
At least Bungie had the sense to make these achievements avaliable in more than just Lone Wolves and the occasional double XP weekend.

Based on the leaked achievements from PAX, I'll put good money on the Mythic Map Pack is going to be a 6-pack.
I for one am glad those achievements are easy to get this time around. Those silly FFA ones are just obnoxious.

The only, and I mean *ONLY* reason I even went and got all 1000 points from the achievements was because I wanted to get all the armor sets for complete options in customizing my character. Unless these achievements actually unlock MORE armor options, I'm not really that interested.
I'd love to see more games actually do things like Mass Effect did with the achievements. Actually give you in-game rewards that affect gameplay for getting all those things. That would be really nice...

Most of these achievements look straightforward and easy, but WTF does

Mean? I assume 'iron' means the iron skull must be activated. But 'in ghosts'? Does that mean you have to make the final escape run in ghosts? I don't remember any ghosts, because I would have certainly used one of those instead of the warthog.

@lordargent: actually you can make it with ghosts, but it is annoying since you have to pass trough the whole level using them, and that requires lots of patience since you must go through terrible places to use a vehicle
