Chris Chike Reclaims Dragonforce World Record
Posted by Mike Fahey at 4:00 AM on September 12, 2008
Not only has Ant Commando's spokesperson Chris Chike reclaimed the Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Guinness World Record taken from him back in June by a Texas teen, he managed to do it with his whole family looking on, including one small child who clearly needs to learn some important lessons about duct tape. The video is nice and all, but what I want to see is all the takes that ended with Chike screaming profanity while his family looked hopelessly at their watches.
Nice camera work at the end there, Mum. Way to accentuate the cleavage.
CHRIS CHIKE REGAINS HIS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD TITLE FOR GUITAR HERO
The Ant Commandos Spokesperson Retakes His Crown For Highest Score on a Single Song in Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock
Ontario, Calif-September 11, 2008 - Chris Chike, official spokesperson for The Ant Commandos (TAC) and record-setting Guitar Hero player has officially reclaimed his Guinness World Record Title for High Score on a single song in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.
Chike (also known as iamChris4Life online), the first official Guinness Record holder for Guitar Hero was crowned as such in March of this year. In June, a teenager in Texas beat that score and temporarily held the record before Chike won it back this week.
With a new high score of 899,703 points with 97% accuracy and a 1,084 note streak, Chris officially overtook the score of 890,971 points that temporarily cost him his title. With this new high score Chike will go down in the Official Guinness Record Book of 2008 as THE 2008 Guitar Hero record holder on a single song.
When asked about his recent re-crowning, Chris Chike commented "I knew I would get my world record title back. I have already scored 100% on the song; millions of people have seen on Youtube, but it wasn't official for Guinness because I didn't have multiple witnesses in the room. Now it is official! I am THE Guitar Hero record holder for 2008!"
The Minnesota 17-year-old's first Guinness World Record was set earlier this year at the launch of the inaugural "Guinness World Records:
Gamer's Edition 2008" in March 2008. Chike earned the new Guinness World Record for the "Highest Score for a Single Song on Guitar Hero®
III: Legends of Rock" with 840,647 points (a 97% completion on Expert
Level) for the song.
"Chris is an amazing talent," said Raymond Yow, Chief Operating Officer of The Ant Commandos. "Not only has he been assisting The Ant Commandos with the design of our new TAC guitar controller which will be launched later this year, but he has also successfully regained his World Record Title-and all while he was on summer vacation."

You could see it in the swagger near the end. Another instance of his record being usurped, and this guy is going to screaming into Billy Mitchell territory. And then his face will be plastered all over bottles of Guitar Hero hot sauce.

@Nexus6: GH3's version is deliberately hard. I can actually play guitar and there's absolutely no way it's even approaching the level of difficulty displayed in GH3.
A lot of the solos are creative use of whammy/effects, for example, and not the note-mashing it would seem from the GH3 note charts.

@SAKY: It's definitely pretty huge in GH3. Not too sure about Rock Band.
It's pretty apparant in songs like when you were young or the the Halo song, all you have to do is have the note pressed down and it will automatically play a hammer-on.
It's pretty ridiculous, and it teaches pretty bad habits. I imagine someone moving from GH3 to GH2 would get absolutely destroyed by any song that features hammer-ons as the timing is much more tight and you actually have to time them properly instead of just holding down the key.

Looking at this, it's obvious that songs like that are intentianlly "stupid hard". Once the best players can complete this song %100 and obtain the highest possible score, what then. I can't see these games getting harder than that.

I imagine the insane amount of time he put into playing a song on a plastic guitar on a level that the band's own guitarist claims is more difficult than playing the actual song, couldn't have been applied to learning to play a real instrument.
When nobody cares about GHIII in a few months, will it really be worth it? Yeah the sponsorship might be a cool gig perhaps, but it seems like he's wasting a level of commitment and possibly talent on something that will inevitably be discarded.

Why are people such losers that they have to belittle a guy for being amazing at a video game? "He has no life."
I think taking the time out of your day to tell somebody else how lifeless they are shows that you are pretty lifeless yourself. If you don't care then move the fuck on, stop wasting comment space and making yourself look like a fool.
I don't really find watching him play to be all that entertaining myself, but I'm not going to go out of my way to put the guy down because of what he enjoys doing with his time.

i play quite alot of guitar hero as well, and there is a huge difference in being able to play from sight read, and from being able to play from memory.
surely people like guinness should take note of that...

This is ridiculous. I love GH and RB, but it seems crazy to me that this guy can get a Guiness record for playing a dumbed-down recreation of a song that didn't win its actual guitarist any world records.

I love all the people who come to a gaming site and watch a video about someone who's really good at a video game, then say, "Why would anyone care? Why is that impressive? Yawn."
Even if you really are 14, it's okay to say, "Wow, I wish I could do that!" Really. Someone might say, "your a fag," but it would just be another person like you who thinks he's cooler than he really is, so who cares?

Sure, maybe there are better things to be doing, but in his defense, there are many people who record themselves playing guitar hero (at least Chris is actually good at it), and there are many people who break stupid world records (let's go with most skips of a stone on a pond for an off-the-cuff example)

Does anyone remember what killed DDR? It was people who took it way too seriously (and they still play DDR like it's a gold medal).
Here's the deal though, GH, DDR, Sing Star all all party games. Meaning they are good to use at with gatherings of people to make yourself look like an ass, but have a good time. It's a lot like Taboo, the game of unspeakable fun. What this game did was, in essence, saying he was the world's fucking best in Taboo.
Why do we have a group of people that think video games like this constitute real talent? Did people brag about sub-5 second 11 meter dashes with Nintendo's Track and Field with Power Pad peripheral?

@Burguois, Teabagger of Olde: He also got 100% on Jordan which has just as much random hammer ons and pull offs, so technically he probably would have eventually got 100% on TTFAF if it was on GH2.

I thought nobody cared about his score, we were just shocked when he pulled off 100%.
Of course there's the fact that all of us have no doubt tried for the Tetris world record (or something similar) as kids and got not appreciation so there might just be some bitterness. That or we've moved on from going for high scores.

Good on him for reclaiming the title. Now if only he can coax them to stand about while he goes for another 100% and MAX-E-MUM SCOREAGE.
Kinda bored after he started missing, but I persevered: to see the final result, to see if anyone moved at all (besides the little ones), and to see this alleged cleavage. In the end all I can say is that this video is very true to life. It's exactly what would happen if I tried to show some of my family a video game.
Gentlemen. You can spend time playing games, or spend time playing THE game. An engendered decision some of us face daily. The choice is yours, and yours alone.

He's obviously playing with the no-strum cheat, so why give him any amount of fame? having to actually hit the notes is seven-tenths of the difficulty of that song. I mean you watch him go into the cheat menu...
I'm again disappointed in the inept journalism of Kotaku for not being savvy enough to even notice this. Comb through YouTube sometime, there're a thousand people with these kind of videos.
The few people who can -legitimately- even pass this song, regardless of score, deserve way more accolade than this douche.
