COD4 Weekend Brings Double XP, Half-Priced Maps
Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:40 AM on September 12, 2008
As we mentioned last week, this weekend is a special double XP weekend for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare players, though now it's now an Xbox 360 only weekend, with PS3 fans most likely getting the treatment a week later. Also exclusive to Xbox Live is a special half price sale on the Game of the Year Variety map pack. The pack will be slashed from 800 Microsoft points to 400 from 12:01am Pacific on the 12th to midnight on the 14th, which coincides with the double XP event. Honestly I can't see how anyone still playing Call of Duty 4 doesn't already have this pack, but it's a nice gesture.
This weekend will also see members of Infinity Ward entering the fray between noon and 4pm on Saturday to play with their fans, so be sure to hit the jump, write down their gamertags, and start coming up with countless annoying questions to bombard them with as they struggle with the frustration of having to work on a Saturday.
CALL OF DUTY® 4: MODERN WARFARE™ GAME OF THE YEAR VARIETY MAP PACK AVAILABLE THIS WEEKEND FOR HALF PRICE

Santa Monica, CA - September 11, 2008 - Gamers find your Kevlar, because this weekend the bullets will fly as Call of Duty® 4: Modern Warfare™ Variety Map Pack hits half-price on the Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network for a limited time. As part of the limited time offer, Xbox LIVE will also will host a Double XP Weekend, allowing players to earn twice as many Experience Points. Additionally, during the release, the limited edition Prestige gamer pics will also be made available, for free download on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace.
Members of Infinity Ward will also be online between noon - 4:00 pm/PDT on Saturday, September 13 to play with fans. While online, players should be sure to add the following Infinity Ward gamertags to their friends list:

Am I the only one who thinks that $10.00(800 M$ points) really isn't that big of a deal. But then again I suppose I'm the minority in the community that doesn't mind paying for additional content. Could be the way I'm saying it... $10.00, $10, Ten Dollars, Ten Bucks... Nope, still sounds like a pittance to pay for a game I enjoy.

@lurkaku: Bad company is amazing and i agree more etertaining now. But COD4 just has something that no other shooter has, its also alot easier to the common knave. Battlefield BC takes hella skill. and teamwork.

I love how everyone says the maps suck, despite how positive everyone was when they were being released. If you don't agree with paying for maps on consoles, then you have a valid point but the maps are far from bad. Broadcast is awesome, so is Chinatown. Creek has its niche following, mostly for snipers. I don't generally like the map myself but thats because i can't snipe.
If you play CoD4 regularly, then for 400ms points, your doing yourself a great injustice not picking them up, as Infinity Ward have done a great job implementing them into every playlist.

Anyone find Bad Company online more entertaining? I thought COD4 was an awesome rush for a few weeks, but then it just started to get boring, very quick.

I will finally buy the map pack now, as I was fucking pissed at 800 points for only 2 new maps, and one map that was straight out of the single player campaign. Such a crock of shit really. 2 maps and one recycled map = 400-500 points for me. I loves me some CoD4, and then some ... but I will not pay outrageous prices for maps. Fuck that.

christ, the maps arent that bad...
killhouse is AWESOME for private match shotguns only, knives only, etc type-games....
broadcast is one of my favorite maps.
chinatown is alight, i guess....i dont like it that much, but i dont vote against it either
creek pisses me off due to snipers, but its still a good map, and there are always ways around snipers, especially on creek, with leaves on the trees for cover.
its too bad killhouse isnt playable in 6 on 6 matches...its great for domination on private matches. you can play domination on shipment, but not on killhouse, i dont get that...
really, if you havent bought the new maps at this point, for 5 bucks, its worth it.

I actually got the game after this pack came out for PC free, so until reading the names above I didn't realize which ones were the bonus maps. I have to say that except for creek they are all my favorite maps, and creek is great if you love sniping.
I wish PC could get Prestige too though. There's no good reason not to give it to us-- playing without leveling just feels pointless now that I've hit 55.

I was never too exited about these maps. It was only when I literally found myself falling asleep on some maps that I bought them.
My opinion? They only serve to show how good the original maps are.
From a Sniper/shotty pov (my usual classes), Broadcast is essentially a bigger version of Vacant with a second vertical level and a big room in the middle.
Chinatown is a recycled map. And while yes I had fun reliving my Carentan experiences...it gets old....fast.
Creek is horrible. The action stays fairly stagnant throughout unless one team really sucks and gets pushed all around the map.
And then about 80% of the time these new maps get vetoed quickly.
Killhouse I cant say anythign about as Ive never played it, as I just play ground war all the time. Does anyone happen to know what playlist that level comes up on the most?
As for Double XP weekend....does anyone really care?
Yeah Ive been sitting at Base 55 for six months, but if you're actually trying to hit Prestige 10, lvl 55 and haven't by now....thats pretty damn sad.
I'd rather have something worthwhile addded gameplay wise to keep me going until COD5.

The new maps are great. Actually all 20 maps are great, each one has it's own little charm. OF course I do veto certain maps on certain gametypes tho.
Chinatown is a great remake of Carentan from COD2 (my favorite COD2 map)
Broadcast is a nice indoor/outdoor map. And I recall playing the campaign in the TV room thinking, "Wow, this would be awesome online!" Sure enough it came true.
Creek is a crazy map that can be real tough to play when everyone likes sniping. I'm not a sniper but I can take snipers out with my M16 with no problem.
Killhouse is good for small team games or 1v1.

@akumadiavolo: Perhaps I should have been clearer. If reaching 10:55 is a goal of yours in this game, and you've had the game since around January, and you haven't reached that yet, then yeah, I'd say its fairly sad if someone had not made it to that point yet.
But that's all really beside the point I was trying to make: Does anyone really give a damn about a double XP weekend when the overall support is lacking so?
Also, @SAKY: Thanks.

As much as I love IW & Company's work I feel that they really dropped the ball with maps, this is still the only map pack and it would seem that this will forever be the case. After getting 7 map packs out of previous 2 iterations, 1 set of 4 maps seems like a huge letdown. :(
I'll confirm some other folks comments when I say that Chinatown & Creek always seem to get voted.

How is IW so bad at supporting this game? We have gotten one map pack that is pretty bad to boot and two playlist updates. They announced another one over two months ago and it's still not out. That's BS. It's not hard to make playlist updates, and I understand it costs them money to update the game and they probably won't recover that cost in sales, but come on. Over 8 million people gave you their money, give us a little love.
@OldManOnTheHill: It's sad if you are not 10x prestige? How so? Because they have a life outside of games? I play the game way way too much and am at 9x. It's not sad, it just means you have things to do outside of games.

@Kayin: Don't get me wrong I couldn't agree with you more on this, but this isn't the PC market. The console community unfortunately gets shafted on a fairly regular basis, I've just learned to accept it.
Makes me wonder why I ever stopped playing PC games... Now I remember!!! I got amazingly tired of spending $300/500 for a video card every 3 years. So I guess the argument is $10 now or $400 later (Very general statement as we know video cards are not created equally).

For the people buying 360's, COD4 is prolly something they will buy if its their first new-gen console. Lower price might get more buys this way. By now, the entire purchase price should be pure profit too, since its likely they already recouped all dev costs on it.

Not to add to this nigh-pointless discussion or argue against your stance, but....
...it can't take that long if you play HQ every time you play, maybe putting in 10-15 hours a week.
Disclaimer: I'm also a Base 55 and never cared about ranks, prestige, or accomplishments, only the gameplay.
As for the topic, I never bought these maps, and I thought it was hilarious that a $10 pack of only 4 crummy maps set a frickin' first week DLC record for revenue generated with few complaints, but two of the best XBLA games made get priced at $15 and the vocal blowback is ear-splitting.
Those two games are topping the charts as I type this, I know, but still...

Oh and...
I've had CoD4 since the game came out and I'm only 8th prestige. Just because they've had it for a while doesn't mean they should all be at the highest level. Pretty stupid way of looking at it. Some people like to take their time playing the game and could go for months without having a go. All I do is play MTD. None of these higher earning game modes. I'm not bad at the game either so people just take it at their own pace.
