@Blah8: Actually, there's been multiple Captain Marvels in Marvel. The original being Mar-Vell, a Kree superhero who came to Earth and adopted the name Captain Marvel (He showed up about five years before DC bought the rights for the original Captain Marvel). Second was a woman on the Avengers. There have also been two additional Captain Marvels who were both descendants of the original (One male, one female).

In order for Marvel to keep the copyright on Captain Marvel going, they have to use the name on a periodic basis. They can't just keep DC from using the title without actually using the character name themselves.

With that said, I haven't like a Mortal Kombat since II but yeah, give credit where credit is due...

Bah MK games just arent my thing, I liked one and two, especially two. Deadly Alliance was.. ok. I didn't really like the other games. And I really didn't like how limiting the combo system was in deadly alliance, and the fact you could'nt use liu kang. When are fighting game developers gonna learn, we don't care about the damn story, we want to be able to use certain characters for their fighting style! If you must kill them off, then at least give us a clone, like liu kangs apprentice wanted to go get revenge for his master or some shit. Oh and im not hating exclusively on mk for this. Im looking at you too Killer instinct, Tekken and many others. But ehh Tekken and MK are the biggest culprits.

I'm happy with that roster. I know that it isn't a lot of characters compared to most recent fighting games, but it's a lot better than the 60+ character cluster fuck that Armageddon had.

And if I'm not mistaken, Street Fighter 4 has less than 20 characters.

MK Vs. DC has a completely new fighting system. So they kind of had to remake all of the MK character's move sets from scratch. Plus they had to come up with move sets for each of the DC characters.

22 main characters is plenty for a fighting game. Anyone complaining that this game isn't Soul Calibur 4 needs to go to the back of the line.

@SBB: Because of a legal dispute with Marvel Comics, DC has to use the name "Shazam" to refer to Captain Marvel on the covers of their comics and on merchandise, so although Shazam is actually the wizard who gave Billy Batson his powers, the name is somewhat interchangeable.

There is also the fact that the wizard Shazam died a while back, with Billy becoming the new wizard (called Marvel) and Freddie Freeman, formerly Captain Marvel Jr., becoming his new champion, Shazam. So, "Shazam" may refer either to the original Captain Marvel (since DC can't use his actual name) or to the revamped Freddie Freeman.

Also, I wasn't "getting technical" it's really quite absurd to compare the character selection of a beat em up with the characters of a FPS or similarly limited in regards to controls and animations game. That would make most beat em ups apparently obsolette considering the character selection the Unreal Tournament series usually has for example (and all the custom characters you can download for such games)... But, surprise, beat em ups still have their audience...

@TheTimeisback: Ok and Mortal Kombat Trilogy had 36 character, that doesn't make every game with less unworthy... At least they've hopefully reduced the dupli-and-triple-cates that exist in every beat em up here. I wouldn't put the custom chars as a separate entity for SC, they all use move sets from other fighters even if you can chose a few different specials. That also sort of completely kills the balance but whatever if it's fun it doesn't matter I guess. In any case, it's all about what a given game offers, quantity and quality in enough measures to make it worth while. SF4 will certainly be worthwhile even with far less characters... If MK Vs DC is a good game, it won't matter if it doesn't have as many as SC or as many as MKTrilogy or whatever, will it?

Anyway, not that I'm interested in this game at all (Mortal Kombat needs a lot more than a crossover to save it in my eyes...), but this is probably what they're going after. Hell, perhaps they leaked this on purpose just to get people stirring about who is and isn't in the game. It's obvious that their own characters have lost a lot of steam over the years, and the whole purpose of putting the crossover together was to stir up some actual interest/conversation about MK again.

I have to counter you on that one. Marvel Vs. Capcom was made a while ago using different tech and difference art. All of those characters were pretty much hand drawn for every move they did if I am not mistaken. While it might seem easier to use 3D models, getting 22 different character models, each with their own move sets, to work in every environment, is a rather monumental task. It is a lot easier to get hand drawn work to across the board, especially to make the animation look good than it is for 3D. I wish we would see the old 2D stuff more often like that :)

DC promotes captian marvel as "Shazaam" voluntarily because they feel marvel would confuse people to think he's a marvel comics property when he's not.

Shazaam is what billy screams to turn into the captain btw and THAT is why they renamed him shazaam, not because of the wizard, who nobody remembers, but because Gomer Pile made the saying far more famous than the actual character.

Hopefuly Darkseid will be as cheap and powerful as all get out. The guy takes on Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and the rest of the JLA as a warm up before killing god/source of all life.

Also, where is Jimmy Olsen? He's perfect to be the joke character in this game, just as Dan is for Street Fighter.

In the current DC universe, Captain Marvel now has the wizard job, but retains the name "Captain Marvel" while his protege assumed the name "Shazam."

Contrary to maniacmayhem's belief, CAptain Marvel is arguably MORE powerful than Superman, since his powers include the wisdom of Solomon (which gives him all accumulated human magical AND scietific knowledge). Not only that, but he does not suffer from one of Superman's HUGE weaknesses, magic. His powers are also MAGIC-based, which means that even if he was half as strong (he is depicted as equally strong), he could STILL kick the shit out of Supes, since Supes' invulnerability would be ineffective against him.

Also in the Eclipso mini seriers years back a possesed Superman went head up with Cap Marvel and they kicked the shit out of each other with no real winner in the end.

So that means this HUGE weakness Superman has or all that Wisdom Marvel he has doesn't amount to a damn thing when they're going toe to toe with each other.

And i think the knowledge is only Magical not scientifical..but I'm not sure on that.
