Nugent to Rock Guitar Hero World Tour
Posted by Brian Crecente at 6:00 AM on September 12, 2008
One more Guitar Hero press release, one more rumour confirmed.
Ted Nugent is lending his voice and likeness to Guitar Hero World Tour, Activision confirmed today. World Tour will allow gamers to challenge Nugent in guitar duel, play as him in the game or jam alongside the Motor City Madman.
Nugent joins Hendrix, Ozzy and Sting as confirmed rockers in the game. Other rumoured rockers that will be included are Billy Corgan, Travis Barker, Hayley Williams, and Zak Wylde.
Hit the jump for the full release. Personally, I'd pick Ozzy or Sting over Nugent any day. And Hendrix! Wow.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MULTI-PLATINUM ROCK LEGEND TED NUGENT TO BRING KILLER RIFFS AND AN EPIC GUITAR DUEL TO GUITAR HERO® WORLD TOUR
Santa Monica, CA - September 11, 2008 - Multi-platinum guitar icon, best-selling author and outspoken activist, Ted Nugent will lend his voice and likeness to Activision Publishing, Inc.'s Guitar Hero® World Tour, joining the all-star cast of rock legends to be featured in the game including Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne and Sting. Aspiring axe shredders will be able to challenge The Nuge in an epic guitar duel, tear up the six string as the music icon's in-game character or jam alongside the Motor City Madman as he rocks his 1975 smash hit "Stranglehold." Recognised as the world's leading guitar showman, Nugent's no-holds-barred career spans five decades of multi-platinum sales exceeding 35 million albums.
When the house lights go down this fall, a new generation of guitarists, drummers and fearless frontmen will come together and rock with Guitar Hero World Tour. The latest installment in the #1 best-selling video game franchise of 2007, Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero's signature guitar gameplay into a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless controllers with new revolutionary online* and offline gameplay modes including Band Career and 8-player "Battle of the Bands," which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online for the first time ever. The game features a slick newly redesigned guitar controller, drum kit controller and a microphone, as well as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock 'n' roll anthems. Music creators will also be able to share their recordings with their friends online through GHTunesSM where other gamers can download and play an endless supply of unique creations.
Guitar Hero World Tour is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious Visions. The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat. The game is rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB. I sort of agree with GunsGermsSteel. I can't see how putting in a few well known's in GH:WT makes it a better buy for someone trying to figure out if they should get it over RB2. All these lame characters are starting to make the game look, I dunno...what's the word I'm looking for....hokey?

Um, who cares? With customizable characters, it doesn't matter who's "in" the game. Every single rocker that's in Guitar Hero: World Tour can be replicated in Rock Band 2. Every single rocker that's in existence can probably replicated in either game. Why is having the digital likeness of a rocker a selling point? Give me something I can't re-create like Cthulhu or a T-Rex.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of Uncle Ted, but there's no denying that "Stranglehold" was the best choice for a Nugent song to use in a rhythm based game. You may not agree with the man's beliefs, but he does have some musical talent. When the rumored list of World Tour songs surfaced a few months back, I'm not ashamed to admit I was perhaps most excited about this very song's inclusion. Now that it's been confirmed? I am slightly more likely to pick up this game.

"NEWS FLASH: Another celebrity is in GH:WT as a character!"
Meh.
Wake me up when they start talking about GH:WT's play modes and capabilities beyond "It's got these dudes" and "It's got a song editor". Activision's being incredibly quiet about how the game actually PLAYS... while Rock Band's been talking up tour challenges, band world tour, battle of the bands, drum trainers, etc.
What's GH:WT bringing to the table to make it distinct beyond the Dragonforce MIDI Editor and Digital Nugents? Convince me you're actually going to be fun and I'll spend $60, otherwise, forget it.

Ted Nugent is the one person that should have done drugs when he was in that era (sex, drugs, rock'n'roll). He is unique in that he is the one person that would have benefited from it. Hell, at the very least when looking at who he is, it sure as fuck couldn't have done him much harm.

I like reading the comments in these GH and RB threads and seeing how elitist the readers of this blog can be in thinking that their taste in music is what everyone's taste in music should be. NOT EVERYONE HAS THE SAME TASTE IN MUSIC. Yea, you may think that RB has a better setlist, but that is your opinion. Other people may think that GH has a better setlist, and that is their opinion. Personally, I look at the playlists and they aren't all that different. Seriously, some people need to really get their heads out of their asses sometimes.

Dammit it cut me off again. I hate it when my browser reloads w/o permission.
Anywho, is it just me or the rumored setlist looking more and more like reailty? Stranglehold plus guitar battle, Crazy Train, Tool songs, Blink and Smashing Pumpkins. Granted it may just be coincidence, but it's kind of shaping up. Not that I want it that way, actually. I love Rock Band, but the setlist is heading that direction.

World Tour seems like it's going to have more "legends" than 3 had....and that one had it in it's freaking title! Like Yahtzee said, it should have been Guitar Hero 3: Legend of Rock, since Slash was the only one in there that had been on the music scene for a long while.
Is it just me or is Guitar Hero relying more and more on actual artists as characters within the game to try to sell more copies?

Oh, GHWT, the more time passes, the more you look like a rip-off of a better game, but with a really horrible soundtrack. There have been 76 songs confirmed thus far, and not counting those also appearing in Rock Band 2, here are the ones I'd actually care about: "Beat It"; "Demolition Man"; "Hot for Teacher"; "One Armed Scissor"; "Rebel Yell"; "The Wind Cries Mary". Six songs on the entire soundtrack, and RB2 even has another excellent Billy Idol song. I'll also count "Spiderwebs", but I'd imagine that would be on the No Doubt best-of coming out for RB2. It's obvious at this point that Activision is just trying to get a soundtrack they think will appeal to the lowest common denominator, while Harmonix is trying to get the most awesome songs possible. While Activision pays tons of money to make artists exclusive to their games- which really doesn't help anyone but Activision- Harmonix is giving us Stephen Colbert and dozens of 99-cent tracks and full albums from artists besides Metallica and 350 songs to play (with DLC, by the way, that can be purchased individually instead of only in packs, and are always cheaper than Guitar Hero's offerings) by the time their next game comes out.
Jeez, I sound like a fanboy with all my "Harmonix is infallible and Activision can eat it" talk, but at this point, that's how huge the gap is between RB2 and GHWT.

Is anyone actually excited to play as "X" rockstar in the game? I always thought the actual appeal of these games was ourselves pretending to be rockstars (note i'm not saying, "pretend to know how to play an instrument").
Having all these likenesses sort of killa this. It's actually a turn off for me.

Weren't you aware that on the internet, other people don't exist? Everyone else that seems to exist is really an NPC-- only the way that I see the world matters, and there are no shades of meaning. My tastes are absolutes that can't be sullied by the opinions of lesser beings.
In conclusion Rock Band has a better track list than GH, because I said so, and I'm the only sentient being in the world. Coincidentally, the world also exists purely for me.

All I have to say are the following three things:
1.) Ted Nugent is a man who wrote the following lyric:
"I can make a pussy purr with a stroke of my hand."
2.) There is a song called "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" on the same record as above lyric.
3.) The man impregnated a teenager.
Now that's rock and roll.

@Ad-hominem: Do you really think that this is going to turn away a large portion of the fanbase? First of all, I doubt that this blog is indicative of the entire fanbase of GH. Secondly, why would you avoid the game because it includes an artist that you don't like? That is silly. If you don't like the artist so much, just play his songs enough to pass them and then be done with it. If it is that god awful to you, just mute your TV while playing his songs. I would imagine that less people are going to refuse to buy this game because it includes Ted than the number of people who refuse to buy the game because it has the devil in it (yes, those people do exist). If nothing else, the number of people who will buy this game because it has Ted greatly outnumbers the number of people who will not buy it because he is in the game. Besides, while Ted's lyrics may not exactly be genius, his guitar skills are good, which is what should be the focus in a game called GUITAR HERO.
