Xbox Originals: Destroy All Humans And Intellivision Reborn
Posted by Mike Fahey at 2:20 AM on September 12, 2008
This month sees the largest addition to the Xbox Originals program for the Xbox 360 ever, with a more than 61 games hitting the service on September 15th. Of course all but one of those games is part of Crave's Intellivision Reborn compilation - which incidentally failed to spark a rebirth of the Intellivision - but if we're going to get technical about things than none of those even count, having not originally appeared on the Xbox. So, a whole slew of Intellivision Games of dubious quality, and one excellent alien invasion title in THQ's Destroy All Humans, a game that received the coveted Fahey award for Best Use Of Zim in a Non-Zim role.
Thanks to Mustapha for pointing out the new additions.

Unfortunetly many of my favorite Intellivsion games are absent from that compilation, but Night Stalker which is one of my favorites is there and is still fun.

@DoomDoomDoom: Does no one else remember him in Summer School with Mark Harmon and Courtney Thorne Smith? He was the nerd. I about died laughing when Zim came out.

Destroy All Humans is pretty fun and quite hilarious, but I already bought a copy for under $10, and since it's already BC compliant, it's not worth buying again.

Most of my childhood revolved around the Colecovision - which as I recall played Intelivision games anyway... or in any case, Burger Time and Mousetrap, my favourites.
Can't wait to check this out.

Huh...if the Intellivision game wasn't ever on the original xbox, I wonder how it made its way to Xbox Originals. But if a game like this can make it here, who's to say that some other game compilation wont make it here next? Atari? Genesis? I'd like to see a Sonic collection, with all of the Genesis games, the Sega CD game, who knows what else they could cram in there.

@Tonx: The Coleco Vision never played Intellivision games. Maybe you're thinking of the Atari 2600 - there was an expansion module for the CV that played Atari games.
Supposedly there was a planned Intellivision module but it was never released. The Intellivision was a bit more advanced than the Atari 2600 - in *some* ways more advanced than the CV. It was sort of like the PlayStation 3 in that its architecture was very non-standard and it used some 10-bit chips and some chips with 16-bit registers, which was unheard-of at the time. (The CV was all 8-bit.) So it was difficult for Coleco to emulate it, and expensive for them to try to build all the hardware required into an expansion module.

@greeble: No Tron Deadly Discs = Not interested, that's the first game I ever truly loved (sniffle, good times, good times).
@Tonx: I dunno what crazy Colecovison you had, but the standard ones didn't play Intellivision games.

Intellivision was the best console ever, no exaggeration!!! Too bad about the great licensed games like TRON: Deadly Discs and ADVANCED DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS CARTRIDGE not being in this complilation. They were incredible for the time. 8-way directional firing independent of movement; you don't have to be running right at your enemy to shoot them. What a concept.
Astrosmash, SNAFU, Night Stalker and Horse Racing (yes, Horse Racing) are some of the best games of the Golden Age. 99 round SNAFU tournaments!!!

Intellivision Lives! was, in fact, released to the Xbox... but this Intellivision Reborn? Yeah, who knows what's going on.
1200 points though... it annoys me. Can't... resists... teh retro...

Add achievements and the regular XboxLive integration package, then sell them for $15.

I'm a sucker for classic compilations, so I'll get the Intellivision comp. I already have most of the SNK Playmore comps, Capcom Classics Collection V.2, both Taito Legends comps... yeah, it's like an arcade at home...

If they had achievements I would definitely buy that again. I still wish asscancer on the guy who broke into my apartment and stole all my games. I had just about every Xbox classics collection that was out there

Intellivsion Lives was released for the original Xbox. Crave didn't do an "Intellivision Reborn". The link given here as "Intellivision Reborn" leads the the "Intellivison Lives" page. Anyway, the compilation is really good. It is in the same style as Crave's "Pinball Museum" series with a virtual pizza parlor as the interface to the different game genres. I picked up a copy at Best Buy in the $5 rack by the checkout counter (along with Crave's Gottlieb pinball compilation for the XBox1) and the titles run flawlessly on the 360. While the Intv games don't benefit from hi-def, the pinball games look great on the 360. IL unfortunately doesn't include any of the licensed games (Tron, Burgertime, and AD&D) because Intv/Blue Sky Rangers no longer has the right to distribute them. It's a shame since Intv had a couple of unreleased AD&D games that were really good (that have been demoed at classic gaming conventions) that they simply can't release to the public.

Ah man, the Intellivision was my first game system. Ah, the memories of moving those stick figures around, lol. Gotta love those phone-pad controllers!

I, too, am confused as to why Mike is referring to Intellivision Reborn, which seemingly does not exist, at all.

@OutsideTheBox: It was also released for GameCube and ran perfectly on that, as I recall. I bought it for $10 when it was near new.
The interface was kind of annoying, I thought, and didn't make much sense. Why would you be going to a pizza parlor to play Intellivision games?

They won't give us an emulator for Destroy All Humans 2..? I already have both game disks. Guess I'll be hanging on to my XBOX1.

How big is the Intellivision download? The torrent looks to be about 300MB. If it's the usual 2+GB file, I can't fit it on my 360's drive, but the Inty game ROMs are tiny and I don't recall anything but music on the disc version.

There was a movie, a comedy with aliens from the 80's. One of the aliens talked like Jack Nicholson. In Destroy all Humans they copy that.

The intellivision package contains 60 games.
But I stopped reading after "61 games" too and was looking for a link to that list...

Intellivison still kicks Atari's ass to this day. I remember when I had gotten a new cell phone and AstroSmash came free with it-- I wigged out.
Plus, it had 16-direction control-- something we didn't even see again until the days of the Playstation.

I'm late on this thread, but nearly all Intellivision games are unplayable on anything other than the original Intellivision 10-key controller. They just don't translate to modern control pads.
