Burn Some Rubber, New Burnout Paradise Bikes Trailer
Posted by Adam Barenblat at 7:00 AM on September 16, 2008
Last month we gave you the scoop on the the Bikes expansion for Burnout Paradise. Turns out if you're one of the lucky ones who has the game then you'll be able to download the game enhancing expansion on Thursday - free of charge. In the mean time we got this trailer to keep you busy.

I was so excited for this game when it was first announced. The previous burnout titles were a lot of fun.
But it's like they took everything that made burnout great and took a crap on it.

Best game I've played this generation in terms of value for money and sheer fun. High speed, edge of the seat stuff, co-op with 7 others, having a laugh, nothing too serious, beautiful graphics, lag free, hd racing. Can't ask for more and then they throw us major free updates like this. Hats off to them.

I wonder if this is going to be like......... Road Rash. That would be epic.
[Or are there no punches and kicking? .-.]

I think Criterion has every right to shout from the rooftops about BIKES and how they're FREE. That's some mighty fine fan service. As for me, there has never been a better time to phone EA and get them to send me a replacement disc, seen as mine stopped reading a while ago for no apparent reason

I just hope that people who own 360s don't have to have a gold account just to download it.

Well, Wired is saying that only the PS3 version is coming on thursday ( [blog.wired.com] ), with no 360 info released. Kotaku says they both being released at the same time ( [kotaku.com] ) (but not in this post). I went over to Criterion (didn't read everything on the site, forgive me) and the Bike news does not mention two release dates ( [www.criteriongames.com] ).
Would love to know if my 360 version of BP will be getting the bike update this thursday.

19.99 at your local Blockbuster video.
Got mine two weeks ago, heh. Not minding it at all, after all the bad flak I heard from people at launch, when I was a huge Burnout fan.

I think it's amazing how Criterion releases add-on after add-on, and that for free. Haven't played Burnout for a while but I'll definitely pick it up again. Thanks Criterion. :)

A lot of console devs could learn from Criterion! Hopefully this means more content will be free with games after launch, supporting those who buy their games

The people who did not buy this game are dead stupid. It's the best racing game I've ever owned. Criterion is my favorite Developer because they GET gaming. No one else does.

Do you even know what a scoop is, Adam? It's when you get a story before your competitor, but it can't be a scoop if you link to another site with the information, then the scoop is theirs.

I absolutely love how much Criterion is supporting this game so long after it's been released. That's something a lot of other developers could learn from. The fact that this new DLC is free is just that much more commendable.

A friend of mine snagged a free copy of Burnout Paradise at PAX, then passed it along to me since she didn't have a PS3. Now, along with the free game comes... a free expansion!
BP: undoubtedly the best bargain I've ever encountered for this console. :)
(I'm also getting a kick out of using the PS Eye for my driver's license photos, which I got courtesy of the $35 deal at Target for Eye of Judgment. Good deals all around.)

@Meldy: They just need to implement the rag doll physics from Flatout 2, and add it to the cars as well. It would be great to see the driver/rider flailing down the road in show time.

@chrisagain: Agreed, I really want to see how rubbish it looks when your driver vanishes from your bike upon contact with anything of any substance.
How much more entertaining would Burnout crashes be if a little ragdoll figure was tumbling tenderly through the air after every impact?

There are no real humans in Paradise City. All the cars drive themselves. Those riders must be robots, like DJ Atomica.
Way fun game. Going far too fast for safety gets pretty exciting.

@Yonderboy: I heard that the motorcycle riders are actually holograms. An adaptation for hunting humans when all the vehicles in Paradise City went bad and that's why they disappear when you wreck your bike. Scary stuff.

This is what all DLC for games should be like once you have bought it.... i.e. FREE; to encourage more sales of the original game. Rather than "how can we keep milking our customers?" it's a case of "how can we thank our original customers and encourage further sales?"
Fair blood play to Criterion; I applaud thee.
Gutted that I chose last week to loan out my copy of Burnout Paradise to a friend though. D'oh!

I no longer have a copy of Paradise, but I wanted to say a huge congrats to Critereon adding functionality like this in DLC instead of going down the bloody guitar hero route and releasing Burnout Paradise: Bike Edition for full price. THIS is what DLC was promised to be in the beginning and I'm glad to see a developer taking advantage. I'll show my support and pick up another copy of the game and get the DLC. They deserve it. Keep it up.

They can't have ragdoll physics for the riders because that would give the DLC a higher rating than the game, which isn't allowed.

really excited about this update. I managed to pick up the game at a Sony outlet store for $30 3 days ago. It has been a great distraction from the hurricane...but playing your PS3 on a cheap ass motel TV is not a great replacement for your 50" at home with surround sound. I can't wait to see this game when power comes back on at home.
