Wisconsin Teens Charged With Murder Over Xbox
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:30 AM on September 18, 2008
Apparently, there's still some confusion over whether the ownership of owning a video game console is worth spending the rest of your natural life in prison over. In another sad case of humanity sucking, two Kenosha, Wisconsin teens have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Their prize? An Xbox.
According to a report from the AP, Capri Walker, 51, was found beaten to death in her home after intercepting a burglary attempt. The two teens charged with the crime are just 14 and 15 years old.
Kenosha police chief John Morrissey said of the crime ''It's just frustrating and mind-boggling that these two young individuals would murder Ms. Walker. They were neighbours. It's a tragic, tragic ending for her." *sigh*
I'd just like to add that this shit is dumb. They were stupid young assholes, not gamers. 'Nuff said? -SB

@Jayl3w: Not necessarily. They *could* be tried as adults, it's not unheard of.
Either way, someone needs to beat the shit out of these kids. Eye for an eye, I say.

LEGALLY they aren't going to be held accountable for their actions, and even if they are it's juvi till they're 18 then they get a whole new identity and are allowed to live normal lives.
Don't you just love the justice system?

@zdude255: But the fact that they stole an Xbox remains here. If you rob somebody of something, you take what you want. Obviously, money is key, and jewelry is easily pawned off, and a purse, which usually contains said cell phone, would obviously contain cash inside. So the fact that they decided to grab the extra weight, the Xbox, shows that that was one of their prime targets in the robbery.

@Xander: They probably thought they would get away with the crime if they killed the witness. It's the simple kind of logic that criminals are generally comfortable with. I wonder what the family situations of these kids where if they even had any. I'm sure the more that's uncovered about this, the deeper into senselessness we'll wander. These "kids" are still alive too. They probably thinking they need to act "hard" to make it into prison. They probably think there bad-asses... real men. There's very little left in this world or in my mind to even see them as humans are even living things. The only words I honestly feel that can describe them is "error"; they're errors and nothing more at this point and they should be corrected... what ever that means.

They stole several other types of valuables, but the headline seems to focus on the xbox. They're just trying to get attention for their story about a burglary by focusing on one of many items stolen. Face it, along with the jewelery, purse and cell phone, the xbox has a good weight to cash ratio.

Yes, and this is - ironically - the result of having tougher punishment for less serious crimes. At a certain level, punishment is bad enough that the criminal doesn't really care if it becomes any worse, so killing doesn't add enough to the expected punishment to prevent the criminal from doing it.

Normally I point out how mentioning an Xbox is pointless in these articles, as it's just one of many things they took, or bought with stolen money or something. But this... it's quite odd. As they took a purse with a cell phone, and some coin too, it seems to say "We're robbing her for money!" but taking an Xbox too? That IS just weird. It's not like it's that expensive, as others have pointed out.
There's something seriously wrong with the culprits here (as there is for most criminals). They definitely deserve a good long stay in jail, but also some definite mental help.

don't get the confused this is not an xbox murder. While there was a murder and and an xbox involved, given the area of the country, the ages of the defendants, the nature of the crime, and the senseless brutality that accompanied it that xbox was most likely headed for the local game stop to get cash for meth or for a straight up trade for meth. This was a drug crime not a game crime.
