Ready To Customise Star Trek Online
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 5:00 PM on September 19, 2008
Star Trek Online looks great and all, but is it customizable? Is it, is it? Developer Cryptic answers away: It's possible to customise character uniforms as well as your Bridge Officers' race, gender, appearance and name — typical Cryptic stuff. Also possible to modify your ship. Click through the link below for more details.

Not a big Star Trek fan myself, but the idea of an MMO taking place in such a vast environment just captures me...

I'm thinking the upcoming generation has no idea what Star Trek is, but I guess this wasn't marketed to them anyways. Not really my thing either ^^

Now this, gentlemen, GENTLEMEN!, is an MMO that I can sink my teeth in to. Finally, something SciFi that doesn't have George Lucas' festering creative stick crammed up its ass. I'm in.

" traditional MMO "
- the developer said that.
Which means another fucking grind, but in space.
What a failure to use the Star Trek universe to it's full potential.
Stick to super hero game Cryptic.

What I want to know is if when you're PvP'ing, will the music play from that one scene where Kirk and Spock are supposed to fight to the death? Like Jim Carey does in the Cable Guy...

I just watched their trailer out of curiosity, and, I don't know if you can get this if you don't live outside the US, but, the way the guy roars "WAAAAAARRRR!!!!!!!!!" is beyond hilarious. Remids me of all the Spore reviews complaining about how impossible it is to play a peaceful civilization.

I want to have a half Vulcan, half Klingon guy. Anyone who messes with him will get some sort of Vulcan death grip, or their face bitten off.

Looks OK. I'll play it if I can be that alien race with the webbed fingers who get really pissed off when people are polite to them.

The thing I'm wondering most about this game is if you can have a ship with multiple players on it working together. Say one steers, one navigates, one balances systems (guns, shields, engines), one fires guns, a few on standby can beam aboard another ship & take it over from the inside as soon as it's shields go down etc..
The reason I wonder this is, in the new GI interview they mention that the "top end" ships can only be built by a fleet (like a guild in other MMOs).
So if it takes multiple people to build one ship, who owns that ship in the game? Is it a collective ship owned by all the people who made it?
Who controls the ship? When you log in do you spawn on that ship, do the other people in your fleet spawn on it?
Can one person fly it into battle and get it destroyed while the rest of the fleet isn't playing? If so do the other fleet members get back the money or resources or whatever they had to contribute to that ship after it's destroyed?
How does it all fit together?
