yeah those screens look pretty bad, but it probably needs to be in motion to get a better idea of how it'll look. The DS obviously doesn't have the muscle power to churn out really pretty graphics, so taking a screen shot of DS games is liking taking a picture of someone who isn't photogenic.

the cel-shading is an actual interesting take on this, and yes im examining the that that this might be a very nice take on the series thus far. "Bringing it back to its Roots" as they would say with a top down display, like the good old pc gave us.

thought i'm extremely interesting in the techniques that will be available via the touchscreen and mapping interface. hows it all going to fold out on the dual screen gaming machine?

The screens on Kotaku don't look good.
The screens linked by the othe dude look amazing. Especially the characters/video-sequences look very good, considering that it looks very "real-time-3D"-ish.

I had a lot of fun with the pre GTA III games, looks like this harkens back a bit. Honestly at this point would only play a handheld sitting on a plane though so I'll probably never try it.

Nice, I'm soooo glad they chose to zoom out significantly. I was afraid this was gonna try and be a semi-3rd person view.

They chose to do the "you're a tiny spot on the screen" ala the GTA1 and GTA2.

It looks like you'll use the touchscreen to change the radio station while driving. I wonder how the soundtrack will fare considering the DS' limitations there; the score is usually one of GTA's biggest sells.

@bigman88zz: I doubt it will be hard to tell what's going on in game - gameplay looks like the older GTAs did and it was fairly easy (hell, even easier than in the fully 3D ones if you ask me) to tell what was going on immediately.

It looks good, reminds me of GTA 1 and 2. Like the cel-shaded style this engine is using, it's a nice change of style than just trying to be realistic and a smart choice for the DS. If this turns out good I hope Rockstar considers developing a GTA title from the ground up for Wii.

Looks like a lot of fun, and the graphics are nice--much better than the horrible 3D that got put into Force Unleashed for the DS. It looks like a bit of a compromise between the "top down" of GTA 1 & 2 and the full 3D of the recent PC/console versions, which is inspired.

Definitely getting this one.

The main shot in this article actually sorta looks like it's painted on cloth, which might be a sorta interesting look for a game. It'd probably have to be an optional filter, so people who _really_ hate the look wouldn't be turned off from playing the game at all, but it might be kinda fun, given the right game. And no, I'm not saying this is it. Because, actually, that was the _only_ thing that interested me in this game.

The perspective is not isometric. Civilization II, Marble Madness, Diablo -- these have isometric perspectives. GTA:CW does not.

The look is nice but I wanna see the gameplay. I hope the combat is good. The driving should be find and if the combat manages to be good with good gameplay (maybe being able to roll or interesting melee combat) and good and many different weapons and enemies it should be great.

The PSP games were good though combat could have been better. If this game offers some zoom during driving sequences (kind of like Phantom Hourglass) that would be great.

So this is basically a slight graphical upgrade from the GBA version. I would imagine that anybody that did not play the first two GTAs would probably not be that into this one. It also seems that a lot of people underestimate the graphical capabilities of the DS and this game benefits from their low expectations. It is a shame that we will probably never see a San Andreas Stories game on the PSP because Vice City Stories was really good. I play handheld games nearly exclusively and certain game types are better on one system or the other.
