Okay, NOW Fable II Has Gone Gold
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 8:00 PM on September 23, 2008
Back in August, Lionhead told us Fable II was "days, if not hours" from being finished. Uh...more like weeks. Only now is it done, studio boss Peter Molyneux confirming the game was officially wound up at 7pm on Sunday night. Good news, that, since most of us are fans of the original. Game's still on track for an October 21 release.

@Garo: I loved Fable on PC too, for some reason, despite the interminably small areas. I think it was because it was a wee bit like playing Zelda, but with cheeky cockney humour and lots of stray limbs flying about.

I loved Fable (played it on the PC).
I don't know why but I loved it's fighting system.
The only thing to complain was it's difficulty. Too easy to make money and level up.
I hope they make this one harder and fix the trading system.

@enewtabie(Future LittleBigPlanet Master Creationist):
The co-op is what enticed me too, but this IS Peter Molyneux we're talking about. That man is like a used car salesman. You just have to accept that every single word out of his mouth is about 60% bullshit and formulate your opinions that way, or you're bound to get burned.

Peter has really converted me.I wasn't really interested in Fable 2(never played the first either). But,now I'm really interested in playing it.I already put my preorder in and have been gathering up my gold in Pub Games.Check out the videos on gametrailers for what was shown at GDC.It does look to be something I can sink some time into. The co-op just seems like such a great idea.

The only reason I have any desire to play this game whatsoever is the local co-op. As such, we'll see if I can fit it in between Valkyria, Eternal Sonata, LBP, and Dissidia...
...god, I have a lot of games to work through.

Didn't like Fable TLC at all. Played it on the PC but I felt it was too cramped with paths you had to follow instead of an open world, the respawning system of enemies was terrible and the quests were not original or fun at all. It felt like it was meant for a much younger audience than advertised.

Fable was a good game. Not a great one but it definately was one of a kind. I'm hoping the game world is alot bigger this time around. I'm trading in 7 games to get Fable 2 so it better deliver at least 25% of my overall expectations.
p.s. I'm optimistic that the fight club side missions make a come back.

They're releasing this the same day that LBP hits store shelves. After much deliberation, I've concluded that I'm going to have to pick this one up later. I just can't afford both right now! Regardless of what was promised, this game looks to be a quantum leap over the first title in just about every way.

@GOD: No, it wasn't just you, but I think it was a great game provided you weren't suckered in by Molyneux's ridiculous promises.
I never listened to him and let the game speak for itself, and then I ended up loving it because I never expected the most perfect game of all time. What I got was a highly polished and fun action-RPG, so I'm taking the same approach with Fable 2.
Totally ignoring Molyneux and planning to let the game speak for itself.

@Bum_Trumpet: Short answer, no.
Long answer, there is no way to know for sure until it's out. There first one was ok, but now 'console defining' in it's ok-ness. Molyneux is the definition of hype, so expect something less from the actual product.

I think it's a bit sad, i was so so hyped for this but the last 2 months my hype has dropped so much and I'm pretty sure I'm not even getting the game now.
It seems to be a fact that co-op is not "Go into your friends world with your character and complete a quest with him. Go back to your own world and play on, and use that cool sword you got in his world". What everyone basically has accepted as fact is that it's "open a stupid menu and select a predefined character. Go into your friends world. HELP HIM complete that quest. But your not playing YOUR character with YOUR weapons and the feeling of being your own self. As soon as you go back to your own world you still need to complete that quest you just helped your friend complete, but that was in his world" Again this is how it seems, accepted almost as fact on the lionhead forum and from the gameplay videos we've seen.
If that's how it turns out to be, im NOT buying it since fable 1 was great but without the much hyped co-op with my buddy, it fails compared to Fallout 3, Far cry 2, Fifa 09 (Football. NOT soccer :P), Mirror's edge (It could be great and it could really be linear suckage. I guess I'm on the edge. Get it ? :P), Red alert 3, LBP (need a ps3 first. Maybe i'll wish for one, this christmas xD).
Oh well, if any of you have concrete proof that im wrong about fable 2 co-op, please show me.

Fable had so much potential. Too bad it was short , poorly planned story wise and even for the original xbox the graphics were less then awful wfor when it came out. Let us not forget the awesome voice acting.
Sadly , i enjoyed it and it's short playthrough.

One more thing, we've never seen or heard anything

I agree with everyone else about Mr. Peter.
Fable was a huge let down, because it wasn't the game he said it would be. He built it up to be an Elder Scrolls killer in it's own right. This massive game somewhat similar with such a vast amount of things to do that you'd never get bored.
If you silenced the guy, and let the game show people what it really was...Fable was one of the best games I'd played in a long time. I enjoyed it extremely, and I'm very much looking forward to this release.
It wasn't what he built it up to be...but damn, it was good.

How can you be a fan of the original fable and critique Star Wars The Force Unleashed for being a disappointment? Compare the two and SWTFU delivered its promises in spades compared to fable 1.
I think the original fable wasn't even a good game if you "ignored all the BS hype." (of course you have to define BS hype as promises made by the lead director of the game who should be in the know about such things) It was a mediocre 13 hour hack and slash with the most boring story for an RPG I have ever seen. I was seriously happy I let a friend buy it before I did, so I could play it for myself.
I want to be excited about fable 2, but I cant due to the fact that every single rating outlet gave the original game a 9 or higher. It was certainly not a 9, and the majority of the gaming community agrees. So now I wait for actual reviews by people who play it, which is sad as the point of reading pro reviews is to determine if I want to buy something or not.

Y'know, if you actually ignore Molyneux every time he opens his worthless, flapping maw to spew forth a torrent of unabridged, blatant falsehoods about what his next game will deliver... his titles aren't that bad. They're not remarkable, they're not great, but they're not bad. On today's a market, a moderately decent game that tries something somewhat different is fine by me.
Original soundtrack was kind of nice too.

Why does everyone speak as if though Peter Molyneux has promised a lot with Fable II, but failed to deliver?
Because that isn't the case. Every feature he's talked about is in the game. Except for those that were eventually changed(NOT cut, just changed).
If you really have your doubts, read the countless previews and interviews that are available online. The majority of them are highly positive.

Reading all the comments it is obvious that we are all paying too much attention to the hype a game gets. I think I'm going to wait and let folks play new games for a bit before I plunk down my hard-earned cash for the brand new shiny ones. It's getting so that reviews repeat the hype instead of giving me insight into whether I will enjoy a game. None of them are perfect, but some are a ton of fun. Identifying those is getting hard with all the marketing.

Here are some quotes taken from the lionhead forum:
"A second player can come in and out of the game at any time as a guest. This player keeps all gold and experience they earn and takes it with them back to their own game world."
"In your game world there will be purple ambient orbs that float around the game world. These orbs represent people on your friends list and it shows where they are in their world as they're playing it. To invite them into your game you can just go up to them, invite them, and in just a matter of seconds they've entered your game world."
"If you go into another persons game as a guest the look of the character will be based off of your character's look. If you don't have a character of your own you'll have a generic pre-determined look to your hero."
All of these quotes are taken from the following videos:

@hagridore: You may have just answered your own question.
Lots of people were getting into the original because of all the awesome things they heard about. When the game shipped and it was less than promised, they felt lied to and the whole experience was soured. If you just came in with no heightened expectations, you were far more likely to enjoy it because there wasn't a bar way up there.
Okay, general question: Is it okay to go out and buy this one because it's the full game and the "realization of P.M.'s artistic vision", or are we likely to find ourselves staring down another "Lost Chapters" version in a few months?
