i dont get it. everyone raves about these games... but they're a bit... i don't know. There's really nothing to them. is there? i mean, the starwars stuff was fun. its cool to see characters in lego-mode. but not really all that deep or challenging after that. its a standard beat-em-up.
I'd rather play a next-gen verison of Battletoads or Double Dragon (or Battletoads vs double dragon!) Because that's what all these lego games are.
If it wasn't legos, it would be hella lame, but i guess that's why its cool. BECAUSE its Legos. hmm.
It would be nice to see Lego "Brand Name Here" do something more than a beat-em-up! then it would be pretty interesting... like a Lego RTS? that would be rad. a Lego FPS? Lego Sports game? Lego Rock Band? hahaha
I'd rather wait and see what Lego Universe does. MMO might be just the thing to get me interested. hopefully its more compelling. and free to play...

I have the same issues. I pretty much resolved to at least finish lego indiana jones before ruling out more lego games.

Damn it, every time somebody writes about Gizmondo, I think they're saying Gizmodo and I have to re-read the comment once or twice. How about from here on out we write Gizmondo as GizmoNdo?

I don't want to be a downer, but I don't know what to say about this one. I love Batman, and I would love to play this game. But, I am unsure as to how long I will actually play the game for until I become bored out of my mind.
I have an issue with their previous Lego games. I first played Lego Indiana Jones with my girl, and after playing through the first episode, I was so bored because the gameplay is just too repetitive. It was fun, but just too much of the same thing.
Then I tried out Lego Star Wars, and it was just too much of the same thing. It didn't interest me, and that made me really upset that I couldn't find any sort of entertainment value from a game based off one of my most favorite Sci-Fi movies ever. I tried many times after to play it, but it just didn't do any good.
Now there is Lego Batman, and I don't want to experience the same fate that I did with the previous games. I really hope that this is a great game, one that I can fully enjoy, and can play through as well.

@shimage: That's a good question, here in Colorado we usually have a day delay between ship dates and the actual date the game gets in the store. However, I just called our local Gamestop to test this out and they have it so considering we're smack dab in the middle of the country, you should be clear.

I want this game.
I agree that the Lego games are a bit on the boring side, but I wouldn't hesitate before buying this game. Why? Well because I have a family. My son absolutely loved Lego Star Wars Original Trilogy on the 360 so much that I bought him the Complete Saga for the DS. And although it's put on rarely, me and my wife still play Lego Indy casually.

So what I want to know is, can I just walk into a store and pick this up today? Or do I have to wait until tomorrow (or whatever) before the shipments actually hit the stores? I always get confused with release dates.

@Albi4ever:
I'm still waiting for a good LEGO RTS. Anything can be built, you can swarm with easy to make bots or spend time constructing huge mechanical beasts/bionicals (the action figure things), and so forth.
I know why they stick with this beat-em ups, it's the same reason so many 16 bit games were Final Fight/Double Dragon like, it's easy and people will buy it due to familiarity as much as anything else. It could be more however, far more with the LEGO name.
Oh well, in the mean time there is always the new Banjo and Kazooie game, which has LEGO like building of vehicles.

I enjoyed LEGO Star Wars, but grew tired with LEGO That Was The Dog's Name. Hopefuly the humour, playing as villians, or the same Bat time can work out in my favour here.
Just in case I'll get the DS version though. Even if I end up growing tired of it quickly, plenty of kids with DS to give it to.

Posted 5:10 AM 24/9/08
@peAr nectAr: Maybe that is the issue. Maybe with my mindset I am looking for the complexity of the game, where it isn't complex at all. It may just be build on simplicity for the kids, and that is what makes it so entertaining for them.
I guess this concludes that I am getting too old. Is 24 that old?

@Demonbird: Well that's good. At least you got through it, lol.
It's just weird, because I am used to games with a repetitive feel to it, but playing the Lego franchise is different somehow. Maybe because all of the characters have a consistent body shape? I don't know.
Let's just hope that this game will be bad ass. If so, then maybe I can look forward to future Lego games with ease.

@xAnarChisTx: I feel the same way, though it's not really surprising considering this is, first and foremost, a kids game. I've decided to make this a rental so I can play it with my little brother, but beyond that, I can't see myself, despite my affinity for Batman, keeping this on my shelf for too long. I can wait it out for Arkham Asylum.

@shufflemoomin: I agree with you, definitely. I love Star Wars, but the gameplay in Lego Star Wars was just stale to me. That was the main reason why I cannot play through it.
Maybe I should just drink a few beers and relax, and attempt to complete the game, lol.

I'm also a big Batman fan, but lego not so much........
yes it looks good and funny, alas it doesn't look like it has the gameplay to keep me interested .
seems like a waste when they could have dones something better......
Arkham looks good, lets hope it's going to live up to my expectations.

@xAnarChisTx: I think the Lego games are only as good as the franchise they're based on. If you're a big fan of the base material, most people enjoy it. I enjoyed Lego Star Wars because it was familar and I got the jokes and reference. The gameplay was 'meh'. I gave up on Lego Indy because I haven't seen the films and I realised how boring the games are without knowing the material it's based on. I'd likely feel the same way about Lego Batman. The gameplay is pretty much identical across all three, but you have to be fan to have fun.

I'm now regretting having bought Lego Indy, because while the games have so much personality, there really hasn't been much done to them from a gameplay standpoint since the Star Wars games. Sure, I love Batman... but I don't want to go through the same thing all over again, even if it'd be fun to FINALLY play as Nightwing in a Batman game.
I guess I'll just be watching the cinemas when they're ripped to YouTube and getting this when it inevitably goes to Greatest Hits (since, let's face it, this is going to be one of the top-selling games of the year).

@shufflemoomin: I think you hit the nail on the head. I loved the Star Wars content in Lego Star Wars and so I enjoyed playing it. I'm not completely familiar with Indiana Jones, so that's probably a reason why I didn't adamantly pursue getting that game. Batman, however, I love, and so I can see myself picking this one up this evening after work. It'll probably be the same old bit about legos breaking when you hit them, and no actual speech, and blah blah - but it's friggin' batman so I just gotta... This coming from a 33 year old...lol

Hmm, surprised they used Danny Elfman's music for the ad. I almost want to buy it, but Lego Indy sort of disappointed me for some reason, and I'm really unhappy I see that ice cream truck, but no Tumbler! I know they're trying to do it more like the comics, but it's oddly a bit of a turn off. I guess I'm just that obsessed over the car!

@Mr.Wilson: I believe I've read in a couple places that the score for the whole game is definitely the Elfman score from the Burton films.
@sandwiches: I disagree about it being more like the 60s Batman. Sure it's goofy, but it's more like a goofy version of the 90s Batman animated series, which was heavily based on the look of the Burton films.

That's kinda my take on it. It's no more goofy than the previous 3.5 LEGO games that Traveler's Tales has put out. It does take a while to accept that, though, and I found myself not liking it as much as I'd expected to until I figured that out.

@DarkWolf7:
The outfit is very clearly based on the B:TAS Joker, and that hair is the closest mold design they had to the B:TAS Joker's hairstyle. They were already making a new cape and cowl for Batman, cat-hood for Catwoman, Two-face's hair, the ubiquitous bat-wing part (seen on _every_ Bat-vehicle except the UCS Batmobile, the Tumbler, and that lame excuse for a Batpod), and five new pieces for the Batgear pack (two different batarangs, handcuffs, a semi-auto pistol, and a tommygun), so they probably decided to stick with what they had available for Joker's hairdo.

@excel_excel:
They've announced that they don't plan to flood the market with LEGO games, I think putting a self-imposed limit of one per year on, but they'd already started advertising for the LEGO Batman game long before someone realized that if they were going to capitalize on the new Indy movie they'd need to put that out this year as well. LEGO Batman _should_ have been out in time for TDK's theatrical release, but they had to push that back so they could quick whip up a LEGO Indy game (well, two, actually, since the DS version is completely different from the main PC/console version, as appears to also be the case with LEGO Batman).

Best Buy had the PC version out last week, but none of the others. TRU got the games in, but not the bonus comic book (and you have to ask for it to get a raincheck...which I almost forgot to do). Circuit City got their bonus button-things (look like campaign buttons, but instead of a normal button pin they have an ID-badge-clip), but they didn't actually have the games (at least not the PC version).

funner than lego indiana jones cause you can do more, there's lots of cool suits that add variety to the stuff you can do, and it's friggin' hilarious.
and i got a cool Robin keychain cause i reserved it at gamestop (there's a couple gamestop's in my city where the employee's are awesome) lol
