BioShock PS3 Has BioShock Xbox 360 Ending
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 3:00 PM on September 26, 2008
Some people didn't like BioShock's ending. It was constricting, people complained. Maybe you didn't, maybe you did. But for better or worse, rest assured the Xbox 360's ending will be the same as the PS3's. According to PS3 version's senior producer, Melissa Miller:
When you get a chance to work on something that was really creative you get the temptation to re-do things...We chose not to.
That means that the PS3 version will have the same final hours that the Xbox 360 does. Of course, developer 2K Marin is adding extra features to BioShock PS3, but the grist of the game is still the same. Mmmm grist.

I don't really care about this, I'm just glad I get to play the game, then I'll know what people are complaining about.

This game has me in a weird spot. I'm anticipating this game even though I probably won't get it. I've got zero interest in it's game play and it doesn't look like fun or appealing to me, yet I want to try it just because of all the hype around this and the original releases. I foresee myself renting this game a month or two after the release. Maybe I'll be surprised and buy myself a copy, but with so many other good games coming out, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Making different endings on the same game-Good
Making different endings on a different console system- That's bad

@Glasseater: I don't know man... game designers usually never let a tiny thing continuity get in the way of a story.

@DoomDoomDoom: I'm not correcting your grammar because god knows I fail at English but I'm a little confused about the placement of the word "but" in your last sentence. It makes it seem like the easy boss was a good thing. Nothing wrong with feeling that way I guess but I get the feeling that's not what you were trying to communicate :\

I recently played through Bioshock for the second time for the "good" ending, and was slightly disappointed. Game was fine, last boss was a bit easy, but the final cut scene was just... a little weak. :/

Meh, whether you see the ending as good or bad, its still a awesome game that everyone should at least play.
also, different endings would conflict with story lines if they ever made a Bioshock 2

I would've liked an alternative ending, but the original was damn good enough for me as it was, cannot wait to be confined in Rapture one more time.

I don't see why that comes as a shock. (ha ha, get it)
Besides, think of the flame wars that would ignite because of different endings on different platforms. Man, that feud would last for years.

Those additions include a new difficulty mode and platform-exclusive downloadable content consisting of "challenge rooms" built from the gameplay structures and characters of the core game.
Can't beleive they are charging $60 still for the PS3 version.

Nah, they're the same, just depends on what you do during the game that changed the outcome.

@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): Well, when you're on the phone with your girlfriend, trying to eat Chef Boyardee and type a somewhat (and I use the term loosely) intelligent response on Kotaku, grammar happens to fall to fourth place.
To reiterate, I loved Bioshock. It was actually the reason I started gaming on the PC (and lack of good Wii games... ). Yes, I thought the final boss (NO SPOILERS!! :O) was too easy, and that the "good" ending was a bit lackluster. Those seemed to be the biggest downfalls of the game, to me at least.

Even though I would enjoy a different take on the ending of BioShock, I would see many fans angry at 2K Games. It's a good decision not to change the ending so they wouldn't alienate their fans.
Still, can't wait to pick this game up again after I traded my 360 in.

It deserves a rental. It can also be beaten in a rental period, as the game itself isn't that long. I enjoyed it, but the second half of the game, the story really took a downward spiral after an amazing first half.

@Tyrannical: Has this been confirmed already? All the stuff I've read on the PS3 version has yet to mention an official price tag; but if it does end being up 60 bucks, than I would have to agree...
Not that I'm trying to downplay the labor that went into adapting the game onto the PS3 hardware, but the extent of those "new" features have yet to be seen. The only feature worth talking about - and that can actually be considered "new" - are the challenge rooms, whose added value have yet to be proven.
C'mon 2K. You know the sweet spot for previously-timed exclusives like Bioshock is $40.

@everybest and @nesdude: I agree, definitely rent first...you can easily beat this game within a rental period. And I agree about the last part of the game; once you get past the games "twist" it gets a little less good, culminating in a less then stellar end boss and even worse end-game "cut-scene" (used lightly...I don't count static images w/ voice-overs as a cut-scene)

The only thing wrong with Bioshock's ending is both of them are too short. It's not such an issue with the good ending because it's done well short, but the bad ending is a mess.
Not that I care that much, really. BioShock is still in my top ten best games of all time list.

I don't understand what kind of ending people wanted. I would actually go so far as to say the ending to Bioshock (the good ending) was one of the most satisfying game endings I've seen.
What else was your character going to do? Just shrug and walk away, to run rapture... a system that was doomed to failure... and end up in the same place again?
The good ending solved the problem of his having nowhere to go and no purpose to his life. It was excellent dammit!

I don't get it... was the ending of the 360 version different from the PC version? (I heard that there are 2 endings depending on how you play the game)
Why should they re-do it? Or is it about the level design and such other stuff that has nothing to do with the story?
