Rock Band Gets Dose Of Blood, Sugar, Sex And Magik Next Week
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 8:40 AM on September 27, 2008
The Red Hot Chili Peppers' fifth studio album and breakthrough hit Blood Sugar Sex Magik will be hitting the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace next week, giving Rock Band — and Rock Band 2 — another full album to call their own. Cost is $19.99 (1600 Microsoft Points) for the full LP or $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) for each individual track. The track "Give It Away" is already currently available on the Rock Band 2 disc. The full tracklisting follows.
• "The Power of Equality"
• "If You Have to Ask"
• "Breaking the Girl"
• "Funky Monks"
• "Suck My Kiss"
• "I Could Have Lied"
• "Mellowship Slinky in B Major"
• "The Righteous & The Wicked"
• "Blood Sugar Sex Magik"
• "Under the Bridge"
• "Naked in the Rain"
• "Apache Rose Peacock"
• "The Greeting Song"
• "My Lovely Man"
• "Sir Psycho Sexy"
• "They're Red Hot"
All Red Hot Chili Peppers songs are required to be played shirtless. Sorry, ladies, those are the rules.
In other news, I just remembered I had this record on tape. Tape! Anyone picking it up?

The financial part of me can't accept paying 20$ on a game that's already expensive, but the albums they offer are quite great, Rush than RHCP ... must ... resist ...

RHCP is really one of the best general rock bands around, my all of my favorite songs of theirs have nothing to do with Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Why do they continue to pick the wierdest RHCP songs? Give it Away? Suck my Kiss? how about some Californication or By the Way plz?

I know my friend has been waiting for this album religiously, so I know he will be psyched. I know I will pick up a few tracks but I don't see myself getting the whole album. Which is what I love about Rock Band. They don't force me to buy the entire listing if I don't want to.

Last week RB2 added Moving Pictures, an album released in 1981. Two weeks ago was Peace Sells from 1986. If anything, Harmonix has been criticized for their heavy use of pre-90's songs. I don't know where you get the idea that they are stuck in the mid-90's.

If I were to purchase an album for Rock Band, it would be this one. But I am a cheap bastard and I feel $20 (or probably $25 CAD plus tax thanks to Microsoft's gouging) can be better spent buying either used games (just got Assassin's Creed for $15), or new (but digital) PC games from Steam.
I will be happy with just the CD and all-instrument tabulature book.

@HagarFaloola:
Unfortunately I've heard that it's incredibly difficult to seperate the Iron Maiden master tracks into the distinct guitars / drums / vocal sections... and Harmonix is done with covers, and I guess they can't get Maiden to get new versions just for the game, so we'll never see Iron Maiden.
A shame, because they were one of my favorite bands :(

Are you kidding me!?
There's a near endless list of "oldies" albums and artists that should get their place in the sun. I'm still waiting for anything by Styx or Three Dog Night, personally.
There's a place for ALL music in games like this, so its only a matter of time that everyone gets what they want.
The newer music they release seems like fringe-rock independent stuff that no one is really interested in.
I'd would venture to guess that an early era Green Day or Offspring album would sell more than the no-name 200X-era bands they shower us with week by week.

@Handbanana37: Well, it is 16 tracks, and they average a healthy 4 minutes plus in length. Normally, 16 tracks on their own would cost 32 bucks, so it's not that bad if you want the full album. Given the work that Harmonix puts into authoring the note charts for all the instruments, the syncing up of animation, etc. for each track, it actually seems fair.
I'm not a huge Chili Peppers fan, so I'll be passing on the full album. But if I was a fan, I doubt I'd feel ripped off.

@superfrogsavestokyo: all those songs are great and I love the older, deeper RHCP but this was the album that made them big. Plus this was back when more of their songs were upbeat. It's very rare that they do songs like that anymore. I'm sure if this one sells well, we'll get more RHCP.

@Albi4ever: well i think they give us no-name 200x bands because they are cheaper to get and if more people buy those band's albums after they play their songs in RB, then it provides MTV Games with more credibility. It's purely a good business decision.
We still get plenty of 80's and 90's songs so I'm cool with everything thus far. I'd appreciate alittle Morris Day and the Time but I know that would be asking alot.

because the last decade to have a good rock movement was the 90's with alternative. post 2000 it just been succession of pre alt pop rock that that is generically commercial and whore by the studios for the lack of a solid musical zeitgeist. it ended up as "emo rock" and that's not even really really emo rock because it has not real roots of emocore. it's just paint me up with mommy's make up and i gonna pretend to be some kind of hard core musician, and then totally pussy it out where it matters, the music. it's just the equivalent of the hair bands, and glam rock making an alternative charge away from the establishment(musical status quo). except there is no current musical status quo and they are like children flailing against imaginary "establishments". hence the "emo" status. they Are the status quo unfortunately, and the studio bought them up and whore them out. So, in this massive failure of a musical generation even truly skilled bands, or those that have the potential to be great are lost in the shuffle. Then there this game that comes out that hails the greatness of rock and they want to bring out the most meaning and loved songs. A majority of the songs would obviously come from the most current generation of musical taste. That was the 90's. Few post 2k is herald as the voice of a generation. Pre 90's is understandably considered out of the demographic, but they have really tried to being a lot of more classic songs considering they underestimated the demographic range for their game.
