Xbox 360 Encouraging More Creepy Living Of Your Moment
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:20 AM on September 27, 2008
Can't say I was much of a fan of the first "Live Your Moment" ad, the "casual" targeted slow-motion nightmare that kicks off Microsoft's new Xbox 360 holiday ad blitz. Fortunately, the next two, shot in the same vein and focusing on LEGO Batman and Xbox Live Marketplace's video download service, are simply more goofball than cringe-inducing. The kid in the second ad spot, fresh-faced though he may be, looks like he's getting a hit of heroin off-screen, he's so delighted.
Don't do drugs, kids. Play LEGO Batman instead.

I guess this is Microsofts way of tempting the "casual gamers in Europe" that they are so concerned about creating their console for.
I can imagine the meeting where they decide that showing living rooms in the back of peoples heads while they are in a living room is an excellent advertising campaign to lure casual gamers from their Wiis and PS3s...

I'm sorry but these commercials are terrible.
Next time MS, hire those guys who made you the Seinfeld PC ads...

What's with these MS commercials? First, they somehow manage to make Seinfeld look like an ameteur, and now we've got people keeping miniature robots of themselves in their own skulls. What will they think of next?

@Pizookie: I really likes the Gates/Seinfeld ads, I dont care if they werent selling anything, thats why they were interesting.
I dont like to simply fall in line with the crowd or blindly repeat whatever the opinion of the article is, but I dont really like the brain replacement ads.

Midgets always emerge from the back of my skull when I turn on my 360. You'd think it would be annoying, but no. They're actually quite pleasant folks.
It's the alligator that emerges from my ass when I play Wii Sports that really gets bothersome. In fact, didn't the first Wii ads focus on that?
"Wii Would Like To Shit Alligators."

While I saw the original one on TV i never saw it as creepy, but I also think they missed their purpose with it. If it was supposed to show how much fun they were having, it looked more like how much they could be having, and that just makes them look lazy to me.

They should just stick with the Gates & Sienfeld ads which they use for Windows. To me they're much more effective, but I guess I'm not their target audience.

these new ones just look retarded and completely take away the originality the RB2 one had. i'd say this marketing has failed.

After 3 of them, its clear to me that the commercials are all about A SENSE OF WONDER. And I feel they capture that fairly effectively. Maybe that's what gaming needs to do right now, because this economy is scary right now. Escaping with wonderment into the games in the backs of our minds may be appealing to the masses...

very manipulative and sloppy, i think.
so xbox can do movies! great! Then you tell us that for 129 pounds gets you an Xbox Arcade. which cant do movies. but you don't tell us that!
next they'll try to sell me undercoating and an extended warranty.
anyone who gets screwed but this deserves it though, because researching the internet on things you buy is a good thing to do.

Nothing can touch the complete and total cheese fest that was the Rock Band 2 ad. That was plain embarrassing. These ads are kind of weird but at no point do the reach the slapstick that the hideous Rock Band ad did.

What MS needs to be doing is showing how "cool" PCs and xbox is. Show "Mac" kid paying with his ipod and his ibook and his imac, and acting all smug talking about elitist things. Next, show a a "XBox/PC" adult playing all these rad games and rocking out.
I always get upset at those Mac commercials because "mac" kid isnt a cool person. he is a prick that doesnt like fun, and just likes music you have never heard of and always likes to tell you about it. Mac cant be upgraded, cant play cool games and cant be modded out the butt like a PC can. Mac guy needs to get hit by a truck that Jerry and Bill are driving on their way to meet middle America.

@Albi4ever: Ouch, I'm a Mac user....I don't really take offense to it as much as you may not fully understand the 'culture' you're describing, as yes, I've seen those elitist Mac users, but I've also seen some of the best software for music/video/picture editing software used by high end universities and low end schools which are appreciated by many people, both smart and not so much, because they are not as difficult or cluttered as a Windows PC can be, especially in light of public use. Also, those new PC commercials (not the Gates/Seinfeld ones) were busted out in public as being made on a Mac. Just saying.

These commercials don't really creep me out per se, they just don't really convey what they are trying to, to me as a consumer. Just like the stupidly odd Sony ads, they are really just diluting the point with fancy new aged marketing effects. Like the 'Families playing together' bit...the dad was doing nothing, he was watching on, mindlessly. Same thing with the chick and dude watching videos. She seemed to be enjoying it, he looked bored as hell. I just think that there could be more interesting ways to show off the amazing features an Xbox has, these just make it seem like a work of science fiction.
