Amazon's Xbox Family Meal Deal
Posted by Owen Good at 10:00 AM on September 28, 2008
If you're looking for an excuse to get an Xbox Core Arcade Bundle (second console perhaps? I dunno), Amazon would like to provide one: You get Lego Batman for free. Or, put another way, if you consider it a $199 purchase of Lego Batman, they throw in the console for free. It's a big family-game promo that we antifamily, antisocial types can still take advantage of.
This is in addition to a slate of other price cuts the online retailer introduced this month, including discounts on yearlong Xbox Live subs, Xbox Live points, and extra controllers.

@Mactheridon: Might want to see a doctor about that, they may make a cream that'll help.

thats a good deal, but unfortunately, these kind of bundles make me think wrong of the game they come with. it makes me lose respect to it, for some reason.

Sweet. I've got a $25 Amazon gift certificate coming my way. I'm about to throw down for some cheap points.

Lego batman is worth 199.00...yes.
I'd buy this only if it came with free biscuits.

Now, seeing all these "LOOK FAMILIES LIKE US PLZ PLZ PLZ" ads and promotional stuff, I can safely say that when parents fall for this stuff and suddenly your family machine is running rampant with displays of largely built armored men chainsawing through ugly grey men, all the while kids firing racist remarks around like Lancer rounds, MS will be rolling on the floor laughing saying "Hahahaaaaa yyeaaa.. forgot to mention that---"

Or you could look at it this way. The 360 will cost you $150.00 and the game will cost you the original price of $50.00. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me...

Yeah, but then you'll need to buy a hard drive, too.
Whiiiich costs about 140 for a 120GB one. So in essence, you're paying 40 bucks more than a regular 60GB 360 in order to get Lego Batman, 60 gigabytes extra, a bunch of arcade games, and a memory unit.
Okay, fine, that's pretty decent.

The PS2 bundle costs $150, the 360 bundle at Amazon costs $200...360 wins. :)

Most of my friends went out and got the arcade bundle and then go to eBay to get a hard drive since the price is so ridiculous in stores

I've been thinking about the 360 lately.
I just can't justify spending fifty bucks for something I get for free now with my current console. Maybe when XBL becomes free and it's not tiered I will jump on a 360.

I don't get why they just don't slap the 20GB HD on the arcade. It has to obscenely to do by now and would eliminate the only negative point of the Arcade SKU.

@Komrade_Kayce: The Walmart Anniversary sale includes LEGO Indiana Jones for that $178 price...good luck finding one though!

There was a deal recently where if you got a 360 Unit (Pro, Arcade or Elite) from Futureshop, you got Gears of War and Star Wars Force Unleashed for free.
Thats a pretty damn good Arcade bundle right there.
And right now, the Anniversary sale at Wal-Mart has the Arcades down to 178.99.

I'd buy this bundle in a second if I knew I was getting a 360 Arcade with the Jasper chipset. In likelyhood, that ain't gonna happen, so I'll have to pass. But this is a pretty solid deal. You have to consider the tax factor. No tax with Amazon. Technically, you're supposed to claim it on your taxes that you didn't pay tax on it, but nobody does that. So for $199.99 out the door with Lego Batman, not a bad deal at all. If only I was assured of a Jasper.

@SnakesSolids: You haven't actually thought about it much, have you?
The lowest tier PS3 at the moment is $400. The low tier 360 is $200. XBL is roughly $50 a year. So a 360 + 4 years of XBL = $400. And Xbox Live is seriously a whole hell of alot better than PSN (cue fanboy rage...fuck you in advance I own both systems and Xbox Live is clearly way superior).
Now, here's the kicker, you can go online and get way better deals for Xbox Live cards. In some places you can get them for $25/year! So that's 8 years of Xbox Live for $200, which would make a 360 with 8 years of Live the same price as a PS3. That is...like 5 years longer than the 360 is even going to be around for. That'll carry over into the next generation, so you'll pretty much be set for Live for almost the entire next generation of consoles. For the same price as a PS3.

Damn it. I've been tempted to get another system for work for a few weeks now, but I don't have the money yet!
Fable and Rock Band and Gears, oh my.
Plus I have to still have money for Christmas gifts and whatnot.
If this were in November or December, I might have been able to swing it, but I think I'll likely have to pass.

@dowingba: Not to mention, Live only breaks down to $4.17 a month if you pay the full price for the 12 month membership. Even cheaper if you get a tax-free 12+1 membership card online.
Yeah, it's still not free, but it really is a much better service.

@MrPerson: You don't *need* a hard drive for a family friendly game unit.
PS2 didn't.
Wii doesn't.

@SnakesSolids: You can still play games without Gold y'know.
Once you get some friends then you can party up with them, otherwise i can't recommend going and playing againts randoms as that's not the fun way to do multiplayer.

I don't think amazon is honoring this anymore. I tried to place the order and it was still trying to charge me full price for the game. I called their cs and they gave me a hard time because you can't link to that offer page from within amazon from what I can tell.
