You'd think "Street Fighter III", but you're so wrong. Here's what's happened. In slick, anime form. No idea what's being said by the voice-over guy, so go ahead and use your imagination (THIS SUMMER...), but there's some kicking and punching towards the end that speaks a more universal language.
Story was kinda dull. Nothing really happened other than Chun-Li realizing she wants to fight deep down. Did her father die a second time or something?

Well that was a pretty terrible dub. Why does Cammy sound like a 40 year old with a fake British accent?
Every time before seeing an anime based on a fighting game, I always wonder; "Can this surpass Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie?" and I'm always left disappointed afterward that there is still no worthy successor to that film after all these years. Granted, Fatal Fury - The Motion Picture is my second favorite after the Street Fighter II film, but that's really where the list ends.
Street Fighter II V, Darkstalkers OVA, Street Fighter Alpaha - The Movie, and the King of Fighters: Another Day were all alright, but none have ever managed to be as seemingly timeless as The Animated Movie. At least in my opinion.
Also, It's a dame shame that with all the advancements made in animation technology, many present day works cannot capture the level of detail found in some older, hand-drawn cartoons. Sure, many of today's productions look alot clearer, fluid, and cleaner than almost any anime from back in '94, but the reliance on simplistic designs, limited motions, and computer generated imagery really takes away from the "awe" found in older toons, and this anime looks like more of the same material being pumped out for a quick buck like so many other modern Japanese anime on the market. Sure, I don't dislike everything I'm seeing so far, but I definitely would have liked it if the designers were a bit bolder and give the characters more defined anatomical features without losing the "look" of the characters like the The Animated Movie. Oh well, different people, different styles. I'll get over it.
On the other hand, I do hope the story is good. Street Fighter Generations had a decent story, but suffered from fluctuating levels of animation quality (to say the least).
Y'know, you can really tell they've changed around the focus of this game by incorporating Chun Li as a main character (Box Art, this clip). I guess it's all to tie in with the live action movie.
I agree Kerosene. The original Street Fighter II Movie and Fatal Fury at both excellent animes. Have you seen the Street Fighter II anime series? I think it's called Street Fighter II V, and it's in the same style as the movie.
@Kloud: ...and apparently she was a part-time cop while being a cook! Unless she was a cook for the cops or a Cop-Cook!.....mmkay...do i make any sense?
Animation was great, dub was all over the place. Oh well...if its just a promotional trailer, it's hard to expect them to go out of their way to make sure everyone actually fits the roles. It does make me yearn for a proper Street Fighter anime. Like, a REAL one. Not the crappy ones they've kept churning out since the 90s.

This is my understanding of the story so far...
Ryu defeats Sagat in Street Fighter, giving him his trademark scar. Originally it was Sagat who killed Ken and Ryu's master, but later this was retconned making Akuma the culprit. It was the Dark Hadou in Ryu that overcame him to injure Sagat in such a way.
Next up, the Alpha series. These (1-3) fill in the background behind Super Street Fighter 2. (The original SF2 story was retconned by the arrival of the four new warriors, mainly so Capcom could earn money by selling a new SF series...). M. Bison (yeah, ok, Vega if you're Japanese) appears as the boss of Shadaloo and is defeated by Ryu who obliterates his body. Just prior to the Ryu and Akuma have a head to head and Akuma states Ryu isn't powerful enough yet. Ryu vows never to go down the path of the Dark Hadou.
Street Fighter 2. M. Bison has a new body. Yeah. Hmm. Originally, Ryu defeated M. Bison again. The appearance of Akuma at the end by not losing a round etc. is not canon.
Street Fighter 4. Anyone's guess so far. Odds on it's Chun Li who gets revenge this time.
Street Fighter 3. New boy Alex is the protagonist. He is defeated by Ryu early on but comes back and defeats Gil.

Old vidja is ollllllld.
Also, what an awesome remix of Chun-Li's SF2 stage music at the end.
@Vargas: Ah, I remember that mindset. I thought it died back around 1995, but I guess I was wrong.
Now, even though I grew up on dubbed anime (Speed Racer, Sport Billy, Astroboy and the like), when I really got into anime (late 80s, fansubbed), it was either unsubbed or the aforementioned fansubbed work. Then I picked up on Urusei Yatsura and watched a ton of that show. Got used to the Japanese voices (Furukawa Toshio as Ataru, Hirano Fumi as Lum). Also watched the first fansubbed verions of Ranma 1/2. Then Viz Video was created, and started releasing Ranma as dubbed. It took getting some used to to hear totally unfamiliar voices doing Ranma and Akane (especially grating to hear Akane pronounced "A-kan-ey"), but one gets used to it.
Urusei Yatsura, otoh, I never got used to the dub. Why? I liked UY far more, that's why. I watched much more of that series than Ranma, and got more used to the way the Japanese voices sounded, and then I watched Those Obnoxious Aliens (the Animeigo dub of the first 4 short UY eps). Practically made me want to claw my own ears off. Horrible, horrible memories ^_^. And the original dub of the 2nd movie didn't help, even though Lum and Ataru's VAs sounded competent.
But today, dubs tend to be much better than the bad old days. El Hazard, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and many more series sound really good, sometimes even better than the Japanese VAs IMO (example; did you know that Hayashibara Megumi (who did Ayanami Rei and girl-type Ranma),did Faye Valentine in Cowboy Bebop? Now, for some reason I prefer Wendee Lee in that role myself.
Just seems like a more natural fit to me.
Of course, it could be part of a herd mentality to simply state that all English dubs suck as well. I've certainly seen that also. But I am giving you the benefit of the doubt here.
PLEASE MAKE A NEW STREET FIGHTER ANIMATED MOVIE. THANK YOU.

i dont think they have american otaku fans over there wanting non-dubbed versions of shitty nick-toons like spongebob.
much like highschool spanish. u pretty much forget it by the time u graduate. and not all japanese people can understand english good either.
so deal with it.
dubs are good, and if u wanna read ur cartoon. more power to ya. god forbid u miss some of the action while ur reading the text.
@Zero_: Umm, the art style is not the same in Street Fighter 2 V, plus the plot is 80% different. It's a cool show but I wouldn't imply that it's so similar to the movie.
@KeroseneClimax: To be fair, Street Fighter II MOVIE was a big budget theatrical production, while pretty much everything else you mentioned were straight-to-video productions. Still though, I'm in complete agreement that a new fighting game based (or similarly themed) animated martial arts movie, up to the standards of SF2M, would be pretty awesome.
The very first thing I thought of was the commercials for Scene It! on the 360.

As for comments on canon: as SF3 only featured a few of the old characters, the story can be manipulated to fit.
Street Fighter 3. New boy Alex is the protagonist. He is defeated by Ryu early on but comes back and defeats Gil.

I take it this is the reason why the console version will be released around the same time as the movie...

I'll tell you why - it's because you heard it from someone else that it just sucks "for some reason". And thus it must be true.

So story wise, how many tournaments has this been since SF Alpha?
Now there's another tounament after the events of part 2 or are all the fighters just getting together for one last prom night?
Boo, no good at all.

But I am giving you the benefit of the doubt here.

i liked the anime. personally i perfer dubs over original english...
i dont think they have american otaku fans over there wanting non-dubbed versions of shitty nick-toons like spongebob.
much like highschool spanish. u pretty much forget it by the time u graduate. and not all japanese people can understand english good either.
so deal with it.
dubs are good, and if u wanna read ur cartoon. more power to ya. god forbid u miss some of the action while ur reading the text.
and can't wait for SF4 dammit!!!

@KeroseneClimax: To be fair, Street Fighter II MOVIE was a big budget theatrical production, while pretty much everything else you mentioned were straight-to-video productions. Still though, I'm in complete agreement that a new fighting game based (or similarly themed) animated martial arts movie, up to the standards of SF2M, would be pretty awesome.

secretly they all suffer from anti-social tendencies that can only be calmed with physical violence?
I remember bad guys wanting to rule the world was enough to assemble a group of fighters.
