The Great Brothers In Arms Heist
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 9:00 PM on September 29, 2008
British cops seized a Renault truck filled with 16,000 stolen copies of Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway. Cops spotted the truck in Leeds after noticing its fake plates. The truck was impounded by authorities, and then stolen again hours later — along with the games. According to a police spokesperson:
We are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry, including eBay transactions where a number of the games have been potentially identified as being advertised for sale. Arrests have already been made in respect of this.
The take's value? £600,000. "Fans needn't worry as more stock is being parachuted in," stated Ubisoft. They, though, should worry about finding the loot.

Fair play, thats a shit load of copies! Wonder where they managed to get them all from?
Its a seriously awesome game though! Minus a few flaws (The characters sometimes don't have the right inflection in their voices when they're delivering a certain line and it tends to sound a bit odd, like there was sometimes a lack of direction.. ) Seriously though, when you're commanding a squad like that, you can't ever say WW2 is getting stale :D

Why would you steal 16,000 copies of one game? Game pricing seems to drop fairly quickly and trying to sell 16 thousand copies of BIA in a decent amount of time seems nearly impossible without causing suspicion.

Thats the greatest publicity stunt of all times! Create interest in a game by pretending that even pirates want the game so badly to the point fo stealing 16.000 units not once but twice!
I kid, I kid, I hope the game is as good as it's publisher Ubisoft, a company I love so very much for their wonderfull Wii games...
PS: Release Namco's "The Sky Crawlers" in Europe and all will be forgiven, Ubi.

The game is great. I've already beaten it 2 days after its release here. Can't wait for the next one which will take place around Bastogne I think. Well, at least they mentioned "Snow" for the sequel.

It's not a bad game actually. The Storyline is kind of muddy, but the gameplay is ok.I guess you need to play the others to get the idea of the story.

I get the impression these muppets impounded the vehicle without looking at what was inside. If they did know the game were inside, why not move them somewhere more secure or put the truck in a more secure location? So, the police take a theives' truck and thier haul, then the thieves go into a secure area, likely a police station or similar and just take it back? And people say playing games makes people act them out in real life... How glad are we the truck wasn't full of copies of GTA? :)

@iRockTheVote: My thoughts exactly. Why is no one concerned about that? What happens when they get a massive drugs / weapons haul. I hope they store stuff more securely then.

The only way to truely enjoy a game is to get 16000 copies and play them all on 16000 consoles at the same time.

Good thing for the game doesn't have SecuROM. One more stealing of that lorry and future criminals they would have to call customer service just to get it started.

Never mind the games; how incompetent of a police force do you have to have in order to find a stolen truck and have it stolen from you so soon? Idiots.

@DukeOfPwn: The incompetence of the British police force knows no bounds. Seriously; they're completely fucking useless as far as major crime goes. Drop some litter or fart in the wrong direction however and they're the world's finest at fining you.
