I dont have a 360 but I'll admit Im salivating to play this game's campaign in co-op with a friend. I never touched multiplayer on GOW1 (and probably wont either GOW2's) but beat the the 1st twice in co-op when I exchanged my PS3+MGS4 with my cousin for his 360+Halo3+GOW1.
Guess I'll need to come up with a new offer. The first exchange was easy since he was dieing to play MGS4... maybe Resistance 2 or LBP+PS3 for his GOW2+360.

This time, I'm just expecting the better next story arc of Gears, nothing more. The way he is building it up though, yes, he is insane, and will be reamed for it. Give it time.

I don't know...I could see it easily be fun for months, great games usually are, but I don't hold the series in very high regard. The single-player was ok for gears 1, but not worth a purchase. If the MP is better....oh well, I don't really care about a games MP much at all. I'd rather play for a story, characters and progression towards a climax.

In MP, it's all good fun, but I can't spend weeks and weeks on an experience that doesn't change, the surroundings don't change, there isn't any character development, no goal and no point. So for me, it gets old pretty quick. I liked CoD4's MP, but it didn't seem like there was a reason for me to go on playing. It was pretty fun for a while, but nothing to keep me going in the long run. The whole progression, earning weapons, perks, things of that sort was fun the first time through to 55, but after that...why? Halo 3 was fun, but after I'd played each map 4-5 times, and each gametype, it just didn't seem like there was any goal, and no reason to continue. I still play occasionally, a quick bit of entertainment, but nothing lasting.

I gotta say, all hype from Mr D Huge aside, this looks like it's going to be amazing. It seems like it's hip to bag out GOW now, but it's the only game I've ever played through the SP half a dozen times (including co-op). I never even touched the multiplayer and I got much more out of it than, say, Mass Effect or GTA IV, or Lost Odyssey or any other 'long' game you care to mention. It's a bloody good game, fun as all hell, and if #2 delivers like the first one, I'm right there.

I think the game will be really good, or at least I hope but I don't really see it lasting more then say 8ish hours at tops to get through it. Unless they stretch it out.

It was an analogy, for God's sake!!! He meant the game had more modes than the first one, and so, it was like a platform, because there are so many ways to play it!

I'd like to see the whole presentation. He was probably just trying to make people understand something. It doesn't seem to have been the whole point of the presentation.

@Mact: Home will be a much more integral and useful part of the PS3 as a whole then avatars will ever be on the 360. I definitely don't think it's a system seller but it should certainly be considerred when deciding on a console. It completely improves the community aspect of the PS3, where as avatars just change it.

Translating CliffyB's marketing speak means that because they saved time by reusing the same assets, story, etc from GoW they have more time to build out samey levels so you can even more of the same as long as you're willing to pass on innovation.

This guy is turning me off of the game too because of his ego. COD4 is a game I could play for a few months, grand theft auto: Vice City is another. I can't see that being the case with Gears of War.

well, I hope he means it. I played gears 1 for all of a month, and that's not because I bought something new, it's because I got bored. I had problems with the first gears, the lack of variety and the numerous dull sequences really turned me off. Sure, the graphics were terrific, but the game was ridiculously glitchy... The sound design was overall horrible (albeit the voices were well done), and I didn't like the progressive health system. I think Gears' undoing was the fact that it had a really tight coversystem, but each weapon (discluding the sniper rifle) could carry a fuckton of ammo and every enemy could take 50 shots before dying. I think the game would've lended itself to the cover system better if the hammerburst carried 12 rounds and it was 3 shot burst but it only took a few hits to down someone and the lancer carried a good 20 and was fully automatic. There was almost no hit detection in that game.

Hopefully Gears 2 will be better.

Not from what I've seen. For one, while your Live account is available to others anytime you're hooked up to the internet, your HOME is only open when you're in HOME.

So far, HOME simply looks like a separate application within the PS3, not very integral. Though I'd love to hear what some of the "useful part(s)" it will be adding to the system.

In fact, the biggest thing HOME comes off as to me is an advertising platform.

@NeVeRMoRe666: He must have been referring to exclusives. Gears 2 looks awesome, so does Left 4 Dead. I hate to admit it, but I know Left 4 Dead will come to PS3 eventually. I'll wait for that because I don't want to pay for online. I basically agree with him that, as far as exclusives go, Gears 2 is the main things worth looking forward to. I know a lot of people are excited for Fable, but I'm not getting my hopes up considering the first one was probably the most disappointing game ever.

All of that said, on the PS3 there's not much to speak of other than LBP and maybe R2.

Anyway, after MGS4 came there's little coming out this year I even care about. RE5 is the next big game for me and it's on both systems. Strangely enough, other than LBP most of the games I'm psyched for are multiplatform. That's a first.
