Oh Great, Puzzle Quest Hitting iPhone
Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:40 AM on September 30, 2008
I don't need to be able to play Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords on anything else, okay? It's already eaten away at my life on the DS, PSP, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, mobile phone, and PC to the point where every month I have at least one Puzzle Quest-related dream. Now TransGaming has announced their expansion into the Apple portable space with Puzzle Quest for the iPhone / iPod Touch.
"It has been a wild and exciting ride for us at D3Publisher to watch Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords progress from a unique release on handheld platforms to one of the most beloved puzzle game franchises of today, raising demand from gamers everywhere to be able to play it on their platform of choice," said Yoji Takenaka, President and Chief Executive Officer of North America and Europe, D3Publisher.
Gah! I just want to hug this man and punch him at the same time, but not as much as Crecente, who actually contacted both companies and harassed them about making the port. Thanks, Brian. Look for Puzzle Quest to hit the iPhone and iPod Touch later this fall, at which point I will begin spending all my time in the bathroom.

@ Fahey
Oh my gosh dude, I thought I was the only person to have Puzzle Quest nightmares. The worst one was where there was an unbeatable/unsolvable one yet I couldn't put down the game (even though there weren't any moves left). I kid you not, I woke up sweating. Very weird...and interesting at the same time how the game makes you have nightmares of it. Any theories as to why?

EXCELLENT! Puzzle Quest in meetings, on the bowl, while my wife is talking, at funerals, during sex, while playing Puzzle Quest on Xbox Live, and on the drive to work?
Hell yes.

I couldn't get into this game, and I love the puzzle genre. Maybe it's time to give it another go.

This game = fantastic. Unfortunately I've already "Emerald Weaponed" it (the term my friends and I use for completely obliterating a game, like refilling the FFX sphere grid with all +4 spheres, or gold starring every song on every difficulty in GH, something I've yet to come close to).
In puzzle quest I've beaten the main game, caught every monster, leveled all skills to 100, learned every spell, and forged every combination of items from my runes. There's not nothing left to do! :(
Such a great game, too...

I only ever picked it up on the DS, since I am a brat about the touch screen capabilities. This should work very well on the IPhone as well.
I used to play ZooKeeper, and I got so good at that that I would have dreams about it. All the animals would start shaking and I would freak out and wake up. Same thing with TextTwist back when I played that a lot. Dream related games are hilarious, especially when they revolve around puzzle games.

@stealthassassin457: I didn't necessarily have nightmares, but I could definitely play the game while I was sleeping...when I closed my eyelids I could see me moving the pieces...that can't be healthy.

I've never played Puzzle Quest on anything, but having on my iPod would most likely be too tempting, since it's the kind of game I enjoy on a portable device. I really don't see what the problem is in a developer trying to open up a new market for their product. What made Kotaku the arbiters of what platforms games should be developed for?

@Jimmni: Honestly, Puzzle Quest on an iPod would be annoying if they use the click-wheel to move the cursor around... it's far too imprecise to select the jewels. The iPhone could work with it being touch as long as the gems are not minuscule in size (would need a stylus tho).

Can you really call it a franchise when you only have _one_ title? Granted, they keep adding a little here and there, and tweaking the rules, but still...

So would you say it's the addictiveness of games that perpetuates the dreams/nightmares we have? I mean, I would play COD4 for countless hours/days at a time; and I guess you could say I was addicted to it, but not once did I dream about it. That Puzzle Quest nightmare did leave me sweating and wondering, "WTF??" Cool to know I'm not the only one that this game has mentally f'd with.

@Cogito: Here's one thing you could try: Damaging the last boss in Hard mode for 250+ in 1 move. Not really a challenge of any sorts, rather if you're smart enough to find a way to do so. (done already by me, so it's completely possible)
