Teasers suck when you already know about the game. "Hey remember we're going to release this! Look at this cinematic that shows you nothing! Remember we're going to release this!"
If facehuggers were something new to the public (like for instance back when Alien came out.. 79?) then this trailer would make me soil myself with excitement. This makes me go blahhh... Give ingame graphics or stay in the shadows silly PR-people!

@Luckyjim: I personally blame the internet for rotting our brains more than TV. When TV was king, life was good. All you had to do was accept everything that the TV said. It was one message. But NOW, thanks to the internet, everyone can say anything and show it to everbody else, so all we get is 1,000 messages of crap instead of 1 message of...less crap.

@DuvalMagic: I dunno if the internet is "going all sideways", but I may not have my ear to the ground in the same way you do. It is a bitch that this got uploaded when it wasn't made for that purpose, and I'm sure having the games perception skewed well before release date is bad news bears for any developer, but IMHO this isn't going to hurt as bad as it seems you think it already has.

This was never meant as something to be released on the internet. It was shown at our party to say, "Hey - we're working on this, we think it's really cool and it's really important to us."

Someone shakey-cammed us and uploaded it and now the internet is going to get all sideways as if it was supposed to be something else? Awesome...

We know folks are curious. I know this teaser does nothing for that. But be cool :) It wasn't meant to do anything other than inform the crowd that its real and it did that. More details will come soon.

I think what Randy implied is that the video was released with no context which will end up leading to rampant speculation on whether its actual of the game, a trailer, whether the game is almost here or not etc. It's not damage per-se, its just makes more work since now they have to clean up and set people straight as to what it actually was.

Ugh another double post. I'm incorrigible. This question has been on my mind for ages though, even though if I did a little probing I could probably have found out the answer myself. You know how in Aliens one of the soldiers says something to the effect of "I bring this along for close encouters" referring to one of his weapons? Not the exact quote, I know. In the first mission in story mode in COD4, one of the SAS guys says the same line about his shotgun before he opens a bulkhead door. Was that a coincidence or a tribute to the movie?

@salmonax: In the industry (of movies and video games) they like to call that a "teaser", because it "teases" you about what's to be expected. More or less basically saying that there is something, and there will be something more, but nothing to show for now.

Or maybe I completely misunderstood you and you're confused as to why this is not a cart on wheels being hauled around by a big truck. I don't know, it's hard to tell on the internet sometimes.

@SarcasmOD: COD4 has several references to Aliens in it. I seem to remember one where a soldier goes: "People, we are LEAVING!", which was said in Aliens, as well as one guy in the game who acts like Bill Paxton (Hicks) panicking in one part.

I still crack that game out from time to time, with my current system it's great that I can jack up all the settings finally.

From some of the magazine reviews i've read it definately has more of a rainbow six/republic commando type of feel where each squad member has a different ability.

My big question is that the game starts off on returning to the SULACO, then back to LV-426. There was a period of time between Aliens and Alien 3 so wouldn't Ripley, Hicks, Newt and Bishop still be in Cryostasis? I thought they were in cryo for an extended period of time again as per Alien 3.

Secondly, wasn't LV-426 totally destroyed at the end of Aliens or just the colony?

I am a bit of an Alien fanboy and I am looking forward to this game, been following this since the "other" version of this game was supposed to be made for the PS2.

The reason I was cheering for this as unlike Borderlands I hadn't seen this before & was a big fan of the AvP pc game from years ago, that and there was booze. I figure it might have gotten more cheering if they didn't announce it a minute beforehand.

@vactoxic: from what I heard, the game will simply have you as one of a squad of marines. None of the key figures have been mentioned (AFAIK) and I hope they'll be left out unless they can get the original actors to do the voice work.

I honestly don't recall if LV-426 got destroyed in the blast, but they could always make it so only the installation got blasted to bits.

It's a fair assumption that the original crashed alien ship from Alien was far enough away from the colony (Hadley's Hope, I believe) to have survived the explosion - not necessarily due to super strong alien metals, but simply because the crash site was so far away from the colony that it hadn't been stumbled upon during the 40 or so years that they had been there. They actually had to be given the precise location in order to find it.
