Best Buy Getting Gears 2 Pre-order RC Tank

A Kotaku reader who works for Best Buy sends us pictures for a pre-holiday meeting in Dallas, where they not only got a chance to check out some Gears of War 2 multiplayer, but also got a sneak peak at the Limited Edition pre-order the retailer will be offering exclusively starting October 5th.
So the deal is, whoever preorders GOW2 Limited Edition starting October 5th gets a remote control version of a Centaur tank for free! It's a COG vehicle from Gears2 and only available at Best Buy. It's going to be sick. I took a couple of pictures for you guys to check it out.
That's actually a rather drool-worthy promo right there, assuming that it is real, of course. Can't take off the rumour tag until official confirmation, but as it stands things are looking pretty good for Best Buy's Gears 2 pre-orders with this baby on their side.

i love kotaku. i was just going to leave to gamestop to preorder this game in less than 10 minutes. i wouldve been terribly saddened coming home to read this.

So at first I thought it was definitely a real rc car, now it's seeming more like a digital one. A digital one would seem more realistic for Best Buy to do. Hmmm

It's likely also one of those new "mini" rc remote cars if the rumor is true...not a full size rc.

...and here i thought the 90 pafe Dead Space 3d art book was a pretty cool preorder giveaway! I've got a hard time believing the quality of a thing like this will be anything better than a "made in China" by 11 year old children plastic toy that'll likely come in more pieces than it wsa meant to.

Best-Buy has become my new game shop. No crazy demands. No questions if I pre-ordered. Peace, freedom and the knowledge that game is being held by a reputable company.

thats all im waiting to hear. if best buy is doing a midnight launch, ill be buying it there.
all i need is one company around me besides gamestop to start doing midnight launches, and i will NEVER shop at gamestop ever again. best buy didn't have to give me a thing.

@Modus_Operandi: Yeah, I know, scary, isn't it? Plus if you have a Reward Zone card, you get money back if you buy enough. And they also send an occasional weekend coupon for 10% off up to 3 video games and/or movies.

You are kidding, right? The lancer is a life size replica. This rc tank is bound to disappoint. While the lancer doesn't rev up or anything, at least it probably won't fall apart like this rc tank (which we have no clue what it will look like seeing as the screens are of an in-game tank).

Makes me wish there was a Best Buy where I live but all we got is BT. A retailer that's extremely similar to Best Buy but from what I have read that resemblance is only coincidental.

i'm conflicted on where to get my gears 2 from, either way the game is sick. i played a demo at best buy. a microsoft rep put it in for like 20 min. i only got to play for a bit but the game is sick.

1) I had a receipt for the box of concept art I bought as a pre-order.
2) They had no way to identify me, nobody took my name or contact info, no online process to alert me of anything.
3) I had to call repeatedly to find out if the game was actually on the shelf.
4) I had to go get my game from the shelf, no copy was held at Customer Service or anything.
Gears 2 seems to be a huge release, if you pre-order and walk in on the day of release and they are sold out because they didn't set pre-orders aside... I can only imagine the backlash they will receive.

I pre-ordered Crysis from Best Buy and their process sucks! You get a receipt that you bought a box of nothing for $10. They don't hold or guarantee you a copy. I honestly felt I should have gone to Satan's playground... err, GameStop instead.
If Best Buy hasn't fixed their pre-order processs, don't waste your time there.
Pre-order should equal the following:
- A copy of said game on release day
- Notice (any format) of release date changes

I sure hope this will be available in Canada. If it is, then I'm canceling my EB pre-order, even if EB is like twice as close to my house and all my friends will be there waiting for midnight. Gears 2 even comes out on my 17th birthday, so I could actually purchase it for myself. But why would I want to do that if it's my birthday?

I am tired of retailer exclusive preorders too. I They should at least make all the bonuses somewhat equal. Little Big Planet gives cool outfits to some preorders and a LBP burlap bag to others. What do Amazon customers get? A mini Brady-Games game guide. There aren't many things lamer than a mini version of something nobody wants.

I agree with they guy who is getting tired of pre order bonuses. Don't get me wrong, I like the cool swag but I think it should be the same across all retailers. Having a different item available at different retailers is frustrating.
For example, I usually buy my games from Amazon.com but the Amazon LBP bonus is lame, it's a mini brady games guide. Other retailers get in game character models, a burlap bag for the game, and other cool stuff. If they want to have multiple bonuses, fine but offer them at all retailers and give buyers a choice of one. Some of the stores don't even exist in my area, like game crazy.
