Posted by Stuart Houghton at 8:20 AM on September 13, 2008
If you have ever played Burnout Paradise and thought, "Hmm.. Needs more bike." then have I got the post for you!
An entire biker gang's worth of new features are due to nyeeeeeeer up to the Playstation Store and XBLM on the 18th of September in the new Bikes pack DLC.
Things to look forward to include a new customisable day/night cycle that affects traffic density and other events, a new Bike Licence progression, dynamic weather and new Freeburn online racing modes.
Criterion Games dates Burnout Bikes...and it's NEXT WEEK! [Criterion]

I thought they did this a month or two ago?
I didn't actually check though - the last time I played it updated, screwed up the title screen and menus and refused to play anything but classical music.
But I didn't stick around long to check it out. I liked the new physics, loved the new graphics, the new car types... were mostly bad... and the lack of any set courses to progress through made it feel devoid of progress just doing the same race course a million times. I got really bored of it in a few weeks, especially with little more than a clicking turn signal to guide me a few seconds too late around corners. It just wasn't fun beyond the first impression. :/

@MartinSWE: You will be able to buy the full game on PSN soon. I forget the date, but I saw a post on kotaku where it was confirmed by Criterion and Sony.

Fuck I gotta get this asap! Criterion are a rarity among console devs, supporting the game mostly for free! Can't wait to get this and its practically a steal these days!

@chuffhoncho: DEFINITELY get it. I love this game. Not only that, but the free updates are killer.
I'm not one to complain about "AWWW, ya can't even see the bodies crash!!!!"
I'm in it for the gameplay not the visuals ;)

I'm more interested with the bodies flying about when the bikes crash at high speeds.

@DancingCorpse: Gold star for the day.
I hope that it's the 18th for both systems, I remember back when they announced the pack that the 360 version would be a bit later because of the hold-up with the previous Cagney expansion.

vrooooooooooommm...rrrrrrr...CRASH!
Atomica: "O.K., I swear i just a body fly by without a bike, is that some kind of new sick stunt tp fly your body into buildings and windows? Hmm, could that be a new viable method of getting to the office? The mall? My bathroom? ...This is Atomica, going to remove his shock proof office windows."

It would have been rather intriguing if the update kept within continuity and removed the humans from the bikes.

Still wish that the bikes were destructible and that your rider didn't disappear into thin air when you crash. Kinda defeats the purpose of a game centered around crashes.

Why not add the features people wanted instead of ones nobody even asked for? I'll take a restart or junk yard/race selection screen over this!

Is anyone still playing this game? I got it and lost interest in a couple days.

I don't know about XBL but the game updates when you start it, you don't get it through the store; I am totally pumped for this update!

@DemonAlcohol: Daily. For hours and hours.
I find that most people that "lost interest" in the game loaded it up the first time and were overwhelmed by how much they had to do, or they weren't willing to learn the map.
Oh, and they bitch about not being able to restart on command.

Aren't all of the updates they're doing this year going to be free, Including the new Island area they've mentioned?

Wow, they seriously are doing an amazing job supporting this game.
Anyone who doesn't own this is a idiot.
My friends say it isn't a racing game and I actually think they are a joke for saying it. Its one of the best racing games I've ever played.

It would have been too difficult to add the necessary physic's for a riders crashes and such...Well, maybe not too difficult, but it would take a long time, and end up being a gigantic update.
I'm more excited about the next one; full brand new island and a dune buggy...yeehaw

This is close enough to Road Rash for me. I love you, Criterion.

The article in the link also says "Next week, we're talking trophies." I may try this game out for the bargain price it's at now. My only hesitations are due to the new Midnight Club. I know they are different but usually 1 open world racer at a time is enough for me. Hmmm.

Easily my favourite game in years. The only one in fact that I haven't sold. It's just pure fun, v high speed open world. I'm sure it can be improved but it is definitely a great title and these updates just provide so much value. Best £30 I've spent on gaming for a long time.
