Capcom's Amazing Mega Man 9 Box Art

Is this the retail packaging for Mega Man 9? Of course not, Mega Man 9 is a downloadable game, but that didn't stop the folks from Capcom from creating this spectacular packaging to send out to their friends in the press, making me wonder just how close a friend you have to be to score one. I've done plenty of things I'm not proud of in the past.
Anyway, it's a throwback to the NES days of bad box art hiding a good game, complete with budget price tag and NES game shaped disc holder. A work of art. A must-have, yet can't have, unless Capcom does good and places a few up on the Capcom store for us to wrestle over. Hit the jump for another drool-worthy view!

Anyone else notice the old artwork for Captain Commando up there on the corner of the back of the box? I haven't seen that guy in YEARS! Hell, that was before the guy got his own game!

It's funny, GiantBomb said that Capcom was JUST crazy enough to make an actual NES Cartridge. And here we go (Even if this pick is a mock-up, I wouldn't put it past them).

Does it bother anyone else that the logo is completely inconsistent with any of the other logos? All they did was take the Megaman 1 logo and drew a 9 beside it. None of the other games did that (except maybe 2, but that was still a different logo.) Theres a difference between doing a retro tribute and just plain bad design choices.
Another thing that bugs me is MM7 was on SNES. MM8 was on PSX and Saturn. What sense does it make for this game to be on NES? (Other than the obvious nostalgia that people seem to throw money at.)
Just makes zero sense to me.

I was never a fan of Mega Man unfortunately, but the design is fantastic. Retro gaming is fun, but if it means I'm going to be pulling my hair out over the difficulty, then I'm out.
Bionic Commando is about as tough as I like my games to get.

The retail store I work at did have a ship listing for Mega Man 9. Albeit it was for slated for Sept 9, and well, that didn't happen. I still have the listings at the store. Perhaps Capcom was kicking around the idea of shipping it or offer some kind of retail package.

Wow! This is freakin' amazing! It's just so cool on so many levels! Classic art that mimicked the bad art from the NES days? Check! NES cartridge? Check!
This and the House of the Dead video-style packaging are very well thought of. For the simple fact that they speak to your inner psyche in a way no marketing-speak can.

Talk about going the whole nine yards. It's clear Capcom is having a ton of fun with this game. Hopefully that will translate to the game itself, but I'm confident it will since Inti Creates is behind it.
I'll be really curious to see how the game reviews. Will reviewers fall on their "It's the same old thing!" sword when they realize that Mega Man is now one of the last of a dying breed?

Oh wow, color me impressed that they actually considered this. It would have been awesome to pull my Nintendo from the recesses of my closet (still stored in the Action Set™ box that it came in almost 20 years ago), hook it it up, and insert a time displaced Mega Man 9 NES cartridge. The force of the nostalgia bomb would probably kill me instantly.

While I know there are lots of pros to having an energy gun arm and then in a gun in the other hand, doesn't energy gun arm negate the necessity for the gun? I mean really mega man...your gun arm already MAKES you mega.
