FIFA 08 And The Sims Coming To The Sega Genesis

You may think that EA's support of the original Xbox — it released both Madden NFL 08 and Madden NFL 09 for the console — showed serious dedication to legacy platforms. How does Genesis support sound? If you thought "bat shit insane" then you might be surprised to learn that versions of FIFA 2008, Need for Speed: Pro Street, The Sims 2, and SimCity are being ported to the 16-bit Sega platform for the release of Tectoy's Mega Drive 3 (a wild looking Genesis clone) in Brazil.
Insert Credit dug up details on the "new" EA Genesis titles, which happen to be based on the mobile device releases and are being ported by Tectoy devs. Those games are just four of the 86 titles that will come pre-installed on the budget console, including classics like Shinobi III and Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle. There are even some new titles of hazy origin. Everything old is new again... or vice versa.

any idea of price....
i say that as the "master system 3" they released was equivalent of US$133. This will obviously cost more!! ARGH

Anyway, it's licensed because the manufacturer is Sega's official Brazil licensee, and they translated almost (AFIAK) all the games to Brazilian.

Had no clue Madden 09 came out on Xbox. I work at GameStop and we don't carry new copies of Xbox games anymore, so I guess that explains it. I didn't think anyone was bothering with the system anymore though.
This is odd though. Does this mean this Mega Drive 3 is officially licensed by Sony, and has the rights to all of those individual games in order to include them on the system? I don't think EA would support a random illegal 3648-games-in-1 console.

the genesis was my favorite system i'm glad to see people still get to enjoy the wonders. Phantasy star IV, ristar, sonics, gain ground, vectorman, columns, and streets of rage were my favs

i was thinking about getting one of the mega drive portables they look pretty sweet anyone have experience with them mainly just looking for a battery life? (i'm talking about the newer ones not the nomad XP)

Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament is still my most ever-played game. In my uni days, we spent hours and hours, month after month, playing just one track: Turbo Turns. Best level of any game ever. I loved my Megadrive.

Genesis(a.k.a. Mega Drive here) and Master System still are very popular in Brazil because its cheap. Here a PS3 legaly imported cost like US$1,000.00 a 360 cost US$1,250.00 a Wii cost US$900.00
So its a kick in the balls of the brazilian gamer since most of the population live with the minimum weight of US$200.00

@NiGHTSSTUDiO: Uh, you've got that backwards, mate. =P The Mega Drive was only called the Genesis inside the USA, and Sega only had to resort to that name because someone else had the trademark on Mega Drive in the US.
That's why they also renamed the Mega CD for the USA, and why the 32X had the Mega Drive part chopped off the front for US launch. Everywhere else worldwide the original name was used.

The Sega Genesis is still HUGE in Argentina and Brazil. There is an article over at [sega-16.com] that tells just how is it. It looks as if the region just hit the pause button in the 90s.
